  • @domreis7337 hey i am about to do this to mine, i am wondering.. U bought to separate 1gb rams? And by what name exactly can i find them... 2gb Memory ram for black macbook?

  • new-egg.com is where it's at. 4 gb ram for less than $60

  • Thank you! :)

  • Самое интересное что он потом у него ещё и заработал XD

  • Sweet video :)

  • Dang thats a lot of money u spent on a 2gb ram i got a 4gb for 30$

  • @chrise0615 That must be pretty low quality stuff. Whats the latency? Clock speed?

  • @chrise0615

Did you check when the video was posted? Im sure the prices have come down since 2007.

  • you should wear a shirt when you take videos dude.

  • thanks a lot all of you guys for q and a !special thanks to Domreis !

  • how do you know when its in does it click or something

  • i bought 4 gb of ram from amazon but when i try to install it the slots are not in the right place and they dont go in the whole way why is this happening

  • I did it, and replaced my hard drive! Tip - I had to use the edge of a credit card to press the two strips wire mesh lining the inside of the bracket, into their slots.

  • Take your chance and win macbook air. Check out macbook7 . c0m!

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks!

  • i got a black macbook 1gb, is it possible to upgrade to 4gb or ram or am i just being stupid?

  • @philipdoom Click the apple icon, go to About This Mac. Go to more info, then click Graphics/Displays.

If the chipset model says GMA x3100, you can upgrade fully to 4GB of ram. If not, you can still do it but it'll only read 3.3 GB or something like that.

  • @mutespartan hello mate, my part number of my macbook is ma701b/a do you know if i can upgrade to that to 3.3 if i put 2 2gb sticks in. or am i stuck at 2gb, any help is great. thanks

  • alright so, lm looking to get a macbook (intel core 2 duo, 1gb ram) from a friend. i need 4gb of ram to run design software (ie, adobe cs5). can i buy two 4gb sticks and have 8gb of ram...? kind of an obvious question i know, but i just want to be sure...

  • @rbueno510 It depends on the MacBook. Check the model number against macsales. Most older MacBooks mac out at 4GB of ram because that is all the logic board will recognize.

  • @rbueno510 if it's Snow Leopard, yes. Otherwise, it will only recognize up to 4GB of RAM

  • @Supuhstar yes it did have snow leopard on it... but i didnt end up getting that one...

  • @rbueno510 heh alright, then

  • @rbueno510 here's a better idea get a pc

  • @wsttxkilr2 nah, no thanks...

  • @rbueno510 are you sure? you won't regret it

  • do the newer macbooks and macbook pros use the same ram as this?

  • How did you get it so you can habe a password right before you get to the desktop?

  • Very helpful! This after I called the Apple store in (Scottsdale / Keirland)

and received zero assistance from a snotty saleslady!

    Thanks a lot!!!

    Jerry C.

  • was that jest ram or something from apple

  • what kind of screw driver do you need and were can you get it ??pleezzz tell me

  • Thanks for using lots of light while filming! This was a helpful video.

  • HI did you use a Value Ram kingston like the kvr667d2s5/1g (/2g) ?

  • Thanks...

  • will i lose anything on the macbook if i upgrade my ram?

  • no. ram is only doing anything when it is turned on. The hard Drives stores the data, an ram (Random Access Memory) only "remembers" anything while the macbook is turned on. Ram is just there to help the computer go faster, like if you have a MS Word doc open, the RAM is what "remembers" the information at the beginning at the doc. Yeah, so the ONLY thing taht STORES data is the HARD DRIVE, the RAM does NOT. Hope this answers your question mate.

  • no

because RAM is ONLY used for LOADING data and NOT FOR STORING data. when your computer is off there is nothing in RAM, in contrast when you turn on your computer the BIOS loads the OS from the Hard drive into RAM and the OS loads applications into RAM so that well... everything can run period lol nothing is lost while upgrading RAM modules :D

  • thats looks so easy ! im doing it lol

  • hi i was just wondering if i could use an 1g apcer ram for white macbook thanks

  • I would recommend that anyone about to do this first uses Anti-Static protection (ESP). A wriststrap only costs £2 ($2) and it could save your PC from being zapped.

  • it has to be a quarter? lol =D

  • Awesome video!!! the one aspect that took the longest was finding a screwdriver so small, but thats it... Thanks alot!

  • cool!

  • Works perfectly on the MacBook black on Black from 2008.

  • Sell it to me?

  • lol now the price is $39

  • Cool stuff, I just upgraded the ram in my macbook from 1gb to 4gb, runs great!

  • was it a new macbook, a pro, or a old 2006 one?

I want to do the same on my 2006 plastic macboob (from 512mb to 4gb) but I read the max upgrade is to 2 gb

    thanks

  • I bought my regular white Macbook in December 2007. It's the Santa Rosa one. For yours though since it was the 2006 model, you can put 4GB of RAM but the logicboard will only use a max of either 2 or 3GB. The Santa Rosa chipset was when they allowed 4GB usage.

  • thanks mate!

  • These are the specs on mine. Bought it in sept 07... Model Name:MacBook Model Identifier:MacBook2,1 Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2.16 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache:4 MB Memory:1 GB Bus Speed:667 MHz Boot ROM Version:MB21.00A5.B07 SMC Version (system):1.17f0 Serial Number (system):W8733DAGZ5W Hardware UUID:00000000-0000-1000-8000-001B63328E77 Sudden Motion Sensor: State:Enabled

  • So whats the max amount of ram I can run? Whats santa rosa chip set? Thanks man.

  • The the regular Macbook, I believe it is 4GB maximum.

  • @ki11erdrag0n if u purchased it in late 2006 then it can be upgraded to 4gb but if u purchased it in early 2006 then u can upgrade to 2gb

  • very helpful,and well explained!

    thanks for the video

    5/5

  • hey i have a macbook2,1 is that true that it only takes up to 2g of ram

  • I think it's 3, but it would work better if you put in 2g+2g instead of 1g+2g.

  • Very cool. Thanks Dom. I appreciate the walkthrough. Well explained and clear instructions.

  • I have the same macbook generation, can i upgrade it to more than 2gb? say 4?

  • yeah i have a 10.4.7 OS X w/ 1gb or ram & a 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo. can i upgrade to 4 gb and leopard without a problem?

  • I got mine in july 2007. Maximum Ram is two. Late 2007 and above can upgrade. check your "About this mac".

P.S: upgraded from tiger to snow leopard for $30 no problems.

  • I got mine in early september of 07... so two gigs is the limit? In my "about this mac" i wasn't sure where to find the date of my model.

  • recently upgraded my ram on my macbook....2gb for $28....newegg rocks

  • Thanks for this.

  • i just bought 4gb for 60 bucks..times have changed.

  • where i want to get one

  • considering 10 years ago computers had like 150 MB of RAM, yeah they have.

  • @FYIsite Thank you ,just gone from 1gb to 4gb (:

  • i recently bought a 4gb 800mhz kingston ram( 2x2) for 54dollars. is that normal for kingston price??

or could it be that the product is not genuine?

  • will u lose all the data in the mac if u change the memory???

  • i dont think so, cuz all the data is on the harddisk, and you're not changing that

  • then what memory card for???

  • its RAM, it's to make it all works faster, so you can also multitask better

  • @Spartan23R does it help with gaming?

  • @JBounder yeh it does

  • @dannylanda coo, I'll do it..

  • no

you will only lose data if you change your hard drive

  • ohh THanks

  • no only if u change ur hard drive

  • you actually can its on the left side of the battery bay.

  • you have a lisp

  • MacBook white with Core 2 Duo "Penryn" and 9400M G chipset (Early 2009 white, Mid 2009): 4GB / 6GB **To find out which C2D MacBook you have you can check the FSB clock or the GPU: If you have a 667 MHz FSB and a GMA 950 you have a Calistoga C2D MB. Check your FSB speed in Sys Profiler.

  • MacBook - These are the maximum RAM upgrades for all MacBooks: MacBook with Core Duo (Mid 2006): 2GB **MacBook with Core 2 Duo and Calistoga chipset (Late 2006, Mid 2007): 3GB / 4GB ***MacBook with Core 2 Duo and Crestline chipset (Late 2007, Early 2008, Late 2008 white): 4GB / 6GB ****

  • man u have a bad memory when you insert the ram

  • Remember guys that the early MacBooks, can only support 2GB of RAM.

    Tom

  • With the same macbook it is possible to upgrade a 4gb ram memory??

  • So the Macbook only has 2 Slots for the Ram, am I right?

Which means you cannot use your previous 512 x 2 Rams.

I'm thinking of a Ram Upgrade aswell. Just not sure if I should go with the 1gb x 2, or the 2gb x 2.

Cause Later if I wanna upgrade to 4gb, then the 1gb ram will be useless.

  • Hi. I would go with the 2gb x 2. This video was made in 2007 and RAM has since decreased in price. I just got 2gb x 2 for $42. If you would like the website, let me know.

  • what is the website you got the 2gb x 2 from?

  • what website is that?

    PM me plz? thanks!

  • hey

what is the website that you got the ram off. i am considering buying a macbook pro 13" and would like to get it with 2x2g and then upgrade one of the 2g to 4g.

  • Thanks for the how-to video. Was very helpful. I have an older macbook, the black color and wanting to upgrade my ram to 4gigs. I currently have 2gigs. I think the black macbook looks the coolest. Thanks again.

  • are does screw drivers are from the Xmods?

  • cheers mate, just order 4gb ram chips for my mac( well 2 2gd chips) and know i know how to do it, another good website for mac and pc computer and laptop boards is crucial, they got really good prices for both us and uk users

  • quick question, what is vram? And is there a way to make that better?

  • i have the same macbook you have and i was wondering is it possible to upgrade to 4GB of RAM? im running on 2GB now and i want to upgrade. if it is, you know anywhere i can get it the memory for a good price?

  • Yes, you can upgrade up to 4gigs. I have the black macbook, the one just before the all aluminum one.

  • one million GB of ram would pwn

that's the founder of Google's computer

  • That is like more than money.

  • ii knoooo

  • he was pushing so ridiculously hard on the ram sticks and after he gets it in, "you do need to apply some pressure."

    hahaha

  • i got 4gb for £14 which is about $24

  • i know i bought mine from newegg for way cheaper hmm...

    $30 anyway, weird.

  • Where did you get this too? I would like to also, lol.

  • Comment removed

  • niice...where dya get that from??

  • at 6.03 you can see the dude in the reflection of the screen of the mac. The guy isnt wearing a shirt! Weird

  • Comment removed

  • wahahahahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • No, dumbass. :L :L

  • Is it 1 GB a stick? Also can you order 2GB a stick?

  • Yes, and Yes.

  • yes and the macbooks ram insert can only have 1gb max so no

  • lol on the bed weirdo

  • You put your fingers all over the connector pinns. Good luck, you might ruin your rig.

  • yeah i'd say that's a good deal

  • i want to upgrade my RAM as well, i have a 1GB, which one do you recommend me to get?

  • When you touch the connector pins, the brass looking plates on the ram sticks, you will not have the best contact and you might even ruin your new ram. maybe not right away but over time.

As far as more info about computers. I will be getting my macbook upgrades tomorrow, Watch for the video.

  • Should have went to crucial

    2GB set for 33 bucks

  • Keep in Mind this was over a year and a half ago. That was the cheapest (but good quality) ram i could find.

  • does doing it topless make a difference?

  • @229dan229

When it is 110* out yes!!!

  • hey thx for the tutorial. soon i will try to see the inside of my black baby ;-)

but i have no quarter what should i do in europe now :-P

  • lol try a guitar pick.

  • Good job covering the unscrew demonstration. ppfft..

  • Do you not know how to use a screw driver? lol

  • Good job touching the connector pins on the memory Domreis7337. You can't do that man. Now if you think the memory has been seated good, it might not. because you have just rubbed the oils and dirt from your fingers on the memory contacts. Good job.

FYI: I don't care who you are or how much money you make. WARE AN ESD Wrist strap.

  • I dont mean to be annoying, but i just ordered some ram and i have never done any hardware stuff. Can you tell me what also is important... and what are connector pins... thanks

  • is it much much faster?

  • question. what are you gonna do with ur old ram? i wanna upgrade but...iono what to do with my old ram...

  • KEEP IT!

If anything goes wrong with the new RAM

you will need the Old RAM!

  • Yo! NEVER work on the inside of a computer while you or it are on a piece of cloth! Static electricity can easily burn the paths on chips like RAM. If you absolutely must work without an antistatic wrist strap, at least do it on a solid surface like a countertop or table and ground yourself by touching metal first.

    Other than that, good demo.

  • thats what i did, i just placed my macbook on a few rubber stops to stop it scratching on my desk, then poked my door handle lol

  • Thanks. Although there was a diagram underneath the battery, it was helpful to see someone do it as I am a recent transitioning macbook user. I upgraded from 2gb to 4gb. Works well with VMware Fusion 2.0 beta 2.

  • myn can handle 4gb, just 2 2gb things

  • Why aren't you wearing a shirt?

  • Hahahaha LOL :P

  • wow putting it in for me was so easy

  • your computer is faster, my mac has 2.5GB and is very fast dude, my computer can only handle 3GB

  • what is the poinont of having high ram?

  • Err it makes it faster...

  • hey dude, you are wrong, i visited an apple store and they told me that i could put 2 GB in one slot and 1GB in the other slot and i did it, i have 3GB RAM on my mac.

  • Pat what if i do not have a quarter?

  • what gen is my macbook

1.83 GHZ intel core 2 duo

    512 MB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRA

can i up to 2 GB ram and also will this upgrade my total GHZ?

  • i think your macbook is one of the first to come out with the intel processor, because of the 1.83GHz and the 512RAM

do you have 2 RAM ports?

  • yah it does i upgraded to 2 gigs of ram way faster with more apps now

  • k thx a lot dude

  • and wut happens if i put 4 gb?

  • Your computer will only see 3.3GB Which would make it think it has unmatched pairs of ram, which would slow it down. Your particular computer is better with 2GB... The rest of the hardware can handle 2GB!

  • guys if my macbook has

2.16 GHZ intel core 2 duo

    1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM

    160 GB HDD

wut generation is this? because i want to upgrade to 4 gb

  • A second generation... You can only put 2GB in it! Sorry!

  • Why not put the other ram sticks in there to make it 3 GB? Or does it max out at 2?

  • This model max out at 2GB... The new ones max out at 4GB!

  • WIll installing the ram myself void the warranty? And what kind of difference did you notice?

  • No... Apple actually gives you instructions on how to do it... My computer is allot faster at almost everything!

  • I KNOW YOUR PASSWORD lol jks man your vids own

  • hmm.... Even after knowing my password I couldn't figure out what it was by looking at the typing... LOL

  • What Are The Specs Of The Macbook

  • 2GB Ram

    160GB HDD

    2.2 Intel Core 2 Duo

    64MB Shared Graphics

  • Hi! Thanks for the tutorial!

I have one question though: Will the batteries last shorter with more RAM, like 4GB?

  • Not in general, but with more ram, you'll get used to use more programs at the same time, and this would make the battery life shorter. ;-)

  • i have the same macbook....do you think that upgrading to 4GB is necessary?

  • It depends.. If you have a Mid 2007 MacBook it wont support 4GB... The computer would only see 3.3GB, If that is the case I wouldn't upgrade

  • the new 1's support 4gb

  • Yes... The Mid 2007 or before don't

If yours supports it then I would say u[grade if you can afford to... Otherwise 2GB should be fine!

  • omfg...I feel retarded. I went ahead and bought 1GB of RAM off Ramjet for my black macbook. I had no idea that these were the only two slots....

  • I am more than positive that there is not one consumer grade laptop with more than 2 RAM BAYS. Don't feel bad, I ordered desktop ram for my laptop!

  • lol

  • thanks for the link!

  • OK.. Not a problem!

  • you forgot your password

  • i was told that the macbook black supports macbook pro ram's is that true?

  • Yes, it is the same type of ram. The MacMini, iMac, MacBook, and MacBook Pro all use the same type of ram!

  • i heard about ur video from drjk3r and it is a cool video

  • Oh cool... Thanks

  • So you got two 2 gb rams? You have 4 gb ram if i was right.

  • No... only 2GB of Ram. The macBook I have only supports 2GB... the newer ones support 4GB!

  • i just bought 2 - 1gb ram from crucial for 45 bucks, w/free shipping! omg you over paid!

  • Ram has really gone down in the last 6 month... keep in mind I did this in August... That was a good price back then!
