Mauna Loa is a shield volcano, not a super volcano. I was talking about supervolcanoes like yellowstone (sorry I didn't make that clear). In an eruption sense Mauna Loa is not even in the same league, although it is comparable in size.

Also, not only will the US be devastated, the whole world will. Basically at least 2/3 of the world's population will die. The 1000 km of ash that will be erupted from Yellowstone will cause the global climate to reduce drastically, and make it winter year round for most parts of the Earth, which will especially be bad for the Tropics. This basically means Southeastern Asia is screwed (China) and lack of food will affect everyone, not just the US.
