  • Zabardast song

  • This song is a treat , one of the all time great.

    Thanks for upload.

  • Album: Navrang

    Year: 1959

Track: Adha Hai Chandrama Raat Adhi

    Singer: MahendraKapoor Asha

    Album Star Cast: Mahipal Sandhya

    Track Star Cast: Mahipal

  • great song by c ram

  • VERY MELODIOUS SONG. THE DEBU DUET FOR MAHENDRA KAPOORJI WITH ASHAJI. I READ THAT, AFTER LISTENING TO THE SONG AT RECORDING, SANTARAMJI WAS SO MUCH IMPRESSED HE DECIDE TO SHOOT THE SCENE IMMESIATELY AND DONE IT IN VERY FEW TAKES.

    THANKS FOR LOADING THIS SONG

    BLESSINGS-MAHES

  • wonderful !!!!

  • pity on those three dislikes :)

  • awesome and melogious even afer fivfty years, songs is ever green. K.r.Rao Hyd

  • Yes its Sandhya, she may not good looking as an heroin but the rare, fast and distinguished dancer ever in indian cinema, till now no one came as her contestant(I think except Prabhu Deva,in male), her most of the films directed by her husband, award winning Indian filmmaker/producer and actor V. Shantaram. She was the third wife of Shantaram. Suppose no choreographer is capable to drill her dancing steps to others.

  • Hello Freinds, I want to see this movie online can anybody help me ?

  • This was really beautiful...

  • I love it!!!! Having Matki on her head whilst dancing is amazing!!! you dont see it in this generation anymore!!

  • GOD....who is the male character he is an eyesore...sandhya is ok but i feel with a classical music Waheeda rehman would have been a much better choice

  • Great song. But sorry to say that Sandhya was an eyesore. She is generally melodramic with no acting prowess. Overhyped, always

  • wow... what a song.. mahendra kapoor at his best.. dont watch the video.. close ur eyes.. listen.. just listen..

  • Visual effects like these were attractions that captured audiences.believe me it makes sense. A woman has to do a lot of balancing acts in real life till she meets the man she loves. The song shows how difficult it is for a woman to remain in perfect balance till she is finally in the arms of her lover.

  • @sanjeevpunj

good analysis. But do you believe man is always free without any burdens and responsibilities to balance ? male character should have picturised with a quintal bag on his back and chains to his legs and hands, isn't it?

  • very very beautiful upload thanx for sharing

  • its not Mahendra Kapoor its Manna Dey

  • it is mahendra kapoor's 1st song

  • very nice music, I LIKE IT SO MUCH

    AND TRY TO SING

  • My dad used to listen to this song and I used to get pissed off, now I know the meaning of it and why he loved it so much, true classic.

  • itna kuchh aadha aadha....but the song is more than 100% perfect...

so much hard work and creativety has made it so wonderful...

love to watch it....thanks for posting.

  • waw its nice to see this evergreen song but the dance is i think very very difficult but she did and marked her name in history

  • is is true that sandhya's daughter married clit eastwood of hollywood? i think her name is rajshree?

  • @shincy9 Rajshree is Jayshrees daughter...Shantaram had multiple wives..yes she is married to an American

  • Excellent.

  • ya, a very blissful, soothing, sweet and melodious song

  • Sandhya did a splendid, graceful, incomparable dance while balancing 8 pots on her head. it is hard to balance with kind of choreography she had to perform on. Incredible talent!!

    Thanks for posting!

  • looking weird that the girl is in a dance competition but song is really good.....love the song!!

  • won't look weird if you see the situation in the movie

  • watch and appreciate the amazing dance!

  • Thanks I ll try to watch the movie.....

  • Asha Bhosle and Mahendra Kapoor. Most documents indicate that this song was Kapoor's first song in Bollywood, not sure if it meant Hindi song or very first playback of his career. Asha Bhosle should also be remembered because of the songs of Navrang and not just Naya Daur which supposedly kick-started her career.

  • @anuj127in dont think this is Mahendra Kapoor at all. Its Manna Dey singing.

  • No Sir Mahendra Kapoor's first son was from the movie "Soni Mehiwal" Chand Chupa Aur Tare Dubee" The reason Asha was picked in this movie because Rafi & Lata had a fight & both refused to sing in this Movie.

  • fuck! it flashes unconscious childhood memory stored back in my mind.

  • C RAMCHANDRA sixer towards point What a composition and is sung by no 1 female singer ASHA JI and MEHANDRA KAPOOR when he was very young and is based in raag MALQUONS What else u expect more than this FLAWLESS RENDITION 03332604292

  • c.ramchandra a master of tunes made navrang a unfurgotable film. no doubt v.shantaram is there.

  • beautiful beautiful song...they don't make movies or songs like these anymore...i remember i heard this song way back in 92 or 93 then i ws 7 n i still vividly remember how captivating this song was! a beautiful raaga and a haunting melody...btw does anyone know more about where sandhya shantaram is now?

  • Sandhya is still about and I read that she visits dos staged by the Rajkamal Studio. she wears all white sari.

  • What great song !!

THE SINGER IS THE GREAT MAHENDRA KAPOOR JI

  • You got it wrong dude

  • This is dam good

  • Great song!

But the picturisation is so surreal! Imagine singing a romantic duet while balancing a huge column of pots on one's head!! Maybe it makes sense in the movie's context...

  • In this movie Mohini is the fantasy and inspiration of the poet (the lead actor). This song is probably in his imagination, hence the surreality.

  • Thanks - then it makes a lot more sense!

  • This whole movie is drama type...So the picturisation of the songs too...Great movie...must watch

  • Very cleverly arranged. The pots also restricted the imagined dancer's movements halfway. It is all in the mind of the poet, who fantacises his wife into something fanciful.

She, a simple Jamuna, thinks that her husband has a secret muse called Mohini,

Now, if a wife catches you blurting out a name in sleep, you can always say that it was another name for her!

Mohini name does mean something like that anyway

  • @IBrutus

your opinion is good on Adha hai Chandrama video. But I am slightly more critical and say the picturisation cannot match with lyrics and tune, unless lady character is arrogant and neglecting that man's romantic feelings..

  • @IBrutus

I agree, but if you add a bit of real ilfe philosophy. The balancing of huge column of pots represents the real-life shit (other responsibilities, such as feeding the mother in law, baby sitting the brother in law, etc) goes around nowadays in all relationships. It also says, romance comes with balancing. lmao!

  • @ishanew1

    True! :-)

  • @ishanew1 : yes i agree wat u r saying :D hahah!!! these columns, whether in this song or in real life, are quite difficult to balance....

  • Just listen to the use of the word 'aadha'(half) in so many contexts by the lyricist...!it is amazing!

  • Very good traditional Hindustani song which we do not hear any more.

  • Love the words sentiments...I was 7 when I saw this movie...and still remember it ..thank god i found the songs today...

  • The singers are young Mahendra Kapoor with Asha Bhonsle. Great music by C. Ramchandra. Film NAVRANG----Nine colours.

  • is this based on mohana raaga? i am quite inquisitive to know. Does anyone know?

  • hey i think its based on malkauns(hindola)...not mohana

  • Can you suggest a good source to learn about the pre-industrial ashram culture? I am also part of the brain-washed education (unfortunately) but hopefully I can unlearn all the **** I was taught

  • This is not sung by Rafi Sb. This is some other singer. Can someone confirm the male singer's name?

  • It is Mahendra Kapoor....

  • It is Mahendra Kapoor....

  • Thanks. MK is a great singer!

  • Fantastic Rafi Sahab..

  • this actoress is simply an enigma, mystical....

  • I am aware that this "balancing the pots" is one of Indian folk dances, but I dont see why she could not take them off her head, midway into the song. Unless showing her prowess was the purpose. In that case a beautiful, romantic song is wasted whereas it could be a totally romantic experience for the viewers. The song did not match the dance or vice versa. The colors & picturization was good. I love this song, but was dissappointed with the way its picturized. Thank you for the upload.

  • Songs in a Hindi movie go w/ story. So u have to see movie to appreciate a song - context is missing.

Navrang is a must see movie to see Indian culture and its beauty; I mean,

pre-industrial era when British just started their control over ashram based education sys. McCaulay's evil plot against superior culture.

  • I agree 100%. Yes I am also aware of McCauley's evil plot. I am very much believer of the Indian school of thought and way of life. I am passionate about movies, Indian movies included. I have seen all of V.Shantaram's movies and I have tremendous respect for him as a Great Showman of his time. I profusely apologize if my comment inadvertently seems insulting, that was not my intention. I also thank you for your point of view, I appreciate it very much.

  • Amazing Performance !

  • Raag Malkauns

  • Absolutely the most hypnotic song and dance sequence ever. Thanks.

  • very pretty song. but sandhya's costume and those dozen pots balanced on her head look weird! She looks like she 's in acute pain and cant wait to take off the whole apparatus!

  • Sandhya and Mahipal acted in this song and had done justice to this song. Sandhya acted in few films like Do Aankhen Barah Haat, Navrang, Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaze, Jal Bin Machali Nirtiya Bin Bijli etc. All her movies were mega hits and she is remembered for her acting and dancing.

  • the best duet of Late sri Mahendrakapoor and Mrs. Ashaji. And the Movie is a Great celluloid hit.

    thanks for loading this song

    Blessings to you

    UMA M NAKKA

  • Is there a way to get this movie?

  • khudrat satayege dekh le babu parwaar usse kahte hai saccha satana pushtow tak

  • in 1960/61,this song used to b played in all request programmes of south asia radio stations

  • poor buffering on utube- destroys flavor of song

  • Satawaji ji..

Thank you very much for sharing the old songs with the viewers......I really enjoyed a lot!!

  • If your emotion is weak, no doubt, this love song will make your eyes well with tears. By the way, who was that singer, Mana de or Mehendra Kapoor? Much appreciated.

  • Mahendra Kapoor & Asha Bhosle

  • Wow! Great song and great picture. Gratitude to you Satawajirao, for sharing this extraordinary piece with us. Please add more if you have. Thanks

  • supar

many many thanks for adding old songs like this

this types of songs are very valuabe

    again heartly thank u

  • Saw this song first time when I was 12 years old and I wanted always to see it again. Thanks

  • i love this song i was trying this sosng since 5 yra thnaks for u tube and and users who uploded this ,,,,,

  • V Shantaram's movies were different...did he marry Sandhya?

  • First he marry with sandhya's sister jayshree , she was the mother of rajshree (famous actress). and later he got married with sandhya

  • Thanks lado for the info.

  • This is not the famous Sandhya Roy of Bengali cinema, right?

  • YES, she is only sandhya of hindi cinema not from bengali cinema

  • Where else did she act besides V. Shantaram's movies?

  • Sadhya was not sister of Jayshree. Santaram fell for Jayshree the actor when he was already married.

  • YES he did

  • Then when he called Gopi Krishnan to discuss his mega colour movie JANAK JANAK PAYAL BAJE, Sandhya ,a budding classical dancer came with him.

Santa Ram had been searching for his female star and he got impressed with her and offered her the part. Jayshree suspected an affair. She felt that she should have had the part in the film. She threw tantrums and santa Ram then did start an affair after the completion of the film. Sandhya then became no. 3 biwi.

  • a visual treat by the great dancer sandhya.. this no will always be remebered

  • The video is not playing why?

  • Seems to be playing just fine

  • watch?v=KNjWiR-S4JA

  • What a super voice of Mahendra Kapoor

  • shantaram was a master of such scenes. remember jhanak jhanak payal baje(nain se nain0 and jal bin majhli(taron ne sajke)

  • in my opinion, the visuals, mahendra kapoor's and asha bhonsle's voice, music...direction evry thing complement each other superbly...the song would hv not been complete without any 1 of them

  • no one commented over the genius mahendra kapoor's voice

  • it was Manna de

  • check it right, it is the voice of Mahenra Kapoor

  • I guess, as intended by V Shantaram, the visual is rather overwhelming. To point it actually sort of distracts the song and becomes the USP of the song itself since the pots on her head do not really contribute to the song itself but only the dance and the visual of the overall piece.

  • no words 4

  • Simply brilliant ,stupendous and i am falling short of adjectives ,V shantaram was a legend

  • Amazing song

  • Marvellous! Reminds me of another alike - Jal Bin Machhali Nritya Bin Bijali.

    Dr K Chaudhry

  • i soooo agree with arniekum

  • Heavenly!!

  • Damn bollywood, why cant they produce Exquisite work like this any more? Magnificent! Just follow the songs in Navrang they are all totally beautiful.

  • Beautiful scene (for the technology of 1950s) and beautiful song!

But if you actually heard payal noises in a moonlit night and came across a mysterious female figure dancing with pots on her head by the side of a remote and lonely lake, I think it will be a more scary than romantic. lol

  • A awesome song with unparallel music score.

    Will remain evergreen forever.

    Thanks for posting this video.

    Added to my playlist.

  • Wonder who gave less than 5 stars for this song...
