  • This. Is. One. Of. The. Best. Songs I've ever heard.

  • This. Is. One. Of. The. Best. Videos. That. I've ever seen.

  • You will be remembered forever.

  • This is what a regular Shawn Lane song sounds like if slowed down by a factor of a billion.

  • nice favorite epilogue for lisa shawn lane ok!!!!!!!!!!

  • Shaw lane está entre os melhores

  • I'm a man and I just cried because of this... But seriously, who wouldn't?

  • I wish Shawn were alive just one more time so I could tell him how much I appreciate his music. I would want him to know that he left an impact on many many people.

  • Shawn R.I.P

You have reached the heavens 30 years after your sister :'-(

  • this is what we should be putting on a gold record and sending out into space

  • Life really sucks, here we have a godly musician and person who could not afford medical insurance.I just cannot imagine a person of the calibre of Shawn not being able to afford top treatment because of money. And we have rihanna, gaga, beiber making millions.: (

  • Just... Pure magic :) a true inspiration as a human being.

  • One of my favorite guitar instrumentals, the last few bars preceding the final note reminds me of the beginning of Watermelon on Easter Hay. Shawn clearly was influenced by Frank.

  • Unadulterated artistry. A musician of the highest calibre.

  • Für meine Lisa, die ich gerade sehr vermisse.

  • This is the utter height of emotion on guitar.

  • it makes me cry, too

  • Is it just me or does Shawn look like he's crying? I don't care, I was crying too.

  • Just beautiful.

  • @guitarnub3 This is about my sentiment, Perhaps I did not appreciate Lane as an artist, he is in my library now, RIP Mr. Lane

  • today i fell in love with shawn lane, rest in peace fine sir

  • his rendition of the death theme by ennio moricone is.....beautiful ..

  • @boneyardcircus yes it is. Deeply haunting!

  • Esta pieza me da ganas de llorar. :'-( . . .

  • The emotion on his face, is sister clearly meant alot to him.

  • once giving this to the world any man would be content with death

  • @Staplesz Agreed. Shawn Lane gave so much to everyone in his music.

  • Reminds me of Jeff Buckley.

  • @MaggotBrain123 Sorry, I meant Jeff Beck.

  • simply wonderful

  • what is this? in my eyes?

  • he used to have speed and technique but at the end that is not important to make a beautiful piece

  • beautiful

  • Every time I hear that song I feel that even though life is short, Lane fulfill his mission.

  • this song is so damn beautiful !

how the hell did it get 2 dislikes ?

  • I listen to this song atleast once every single day

  • Well...

They are together now probably talking about memories of when they lived. :')

  • whos lisa?

  • @Savatage420 Lisa is Shawn's sister who passed away in around 1984, after a car accident.

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos Is it true that Shawn had tried to crawl in her coffin? Honestly, if my sister had passed away like that or even if she did, I'd do the same thing.

  • What a terrible loss. Such a talented and compassionate soul.

    R.I.P. Shawn and Lisa

  • On some real talk, that spirit is eternal.

  • Goose Bumps at 0:02 Everytime. That starting sound. R.I.P Shawn Lane.

  • Thank you for beautiful music!

  • This is hands down one of the best songs ever written and played so wonderfully it is a very emotional piece and the playing is downright phenomenal... I wouldn't expect any less from a virtuoso from Shawn Lane.

On a side note, if you really enjoyed this playing check out Jeff Beck's latest CD. Elegy for Dunkirk and Nessun Dorma are songs that stick out in my mind that are similar to the emotion and passion that Epilogue for Lisa contains. Long live Shawn Lane's music.

  • life's too short... :-(

  • @lovekurt :'-(

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos enjoy what we got:) like this piece of pure emotion

  • Zero dislikes, the way it should be.

  • @aander2112

somebody disliked it D: it was probably tim halcomb. that asshole needs to get off youtube.

  • Shades of Beck. I miss you Shawn, every day you touch me some way. Thanks for the vid. R.I.P Shawn

  • i cried

i cry everytime i hear this

this is one of my favorite compositions of music

    RIP Shawn and Lisa lane

  • @DavidRck I dont cry but i get pretty close, and i get major goose bumps.

  • Very very beautifil!!!!

  • is he crying?

  • @trevorftard probbally

  • @hurjastilpsi I almost cried when I played it.

  • I want this song played at my funeral. R.I.P Shawn Lane

  • very beautiful

  • No Words to discripe this, absolutely amazing...

  • rip shaun lane

  • Fantastic brought tears to my eyes. RIP Shawn!

  • Perfect vibrato. And I mean perfect- that's not I word I really ever seriously use to describe something- after all there's always room for improvement... except not in this case.

    Respect, RIP.

  • That piece of music always strikes an inner string in me, have to hold back a little in the emotions or I would cry like a baby ... the powers of ten version with the false harmonics in the end floors me everytime .. I wish he was still around

  • Awesome!

  • Epilogue for Shawn T.T

  • This man was without a doubt the greatest guitarist to have ever lived, technical and melodic perfection

  • I cried.

  • god damn he is incredible. its so funny. he can play so fast that even paul gilbert is quoted saying his left hand alone sounds like 2 hands. but then also he can play like this. so much beauty and talent in 1 human. i love it.

  • Awesome!

  • I always remember Shawn by this :)

  • This is as close as anyone is likely to come to the perfect expression of loss. Sad and beautiful as it gets.

  • Only song that's ever made me tear up.

  • I played on that same stage at that spot he is standing

  • In a fifty years, this will be all but forgotten... I can't even express how that makes me feel :( This is truly moving, and I can't understand why this isn't more exposed.

  • He wrote this for his sister, who died tragically in a car crash. Here you see him bearing his soul for all to see. We are all so much the better for it. RIP

Shawn's music is proof that he found so much love, beauty and transcendance in his short time here, in spite of tremendous adversity. That's why his music is an endless fountainhead of joy and inspiration. RIP my friend

  • anyone know what kind of a trem hes using in this?

hard to tell from the vid, looks like a floyd but it stays in tune to well :)

  • Its a Floyd rose style bridge,i believe it was the JT6 that was on the Charvel 750XL...

  • @Piledriver7 that's weird, i've heard nothing but bad reviews about the jt6

the majority of them saying the design itself isnt bad but the build quality being terrible.

But if its good enough for shawn...

  • One of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard out of a guitar especially a Charvel! I love the tone he got most unfortunate he is no longer with us.

  • This song literally just brought tears to my eyes, and I'm not just talking about just a few. Possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

  • Oops, meant to press thumbs up! Sorry <3

  • I'll make up for it. :-D

I've done that a few times myself by mistake.

  • What a lot of technically skilled guitarists ignore is the tone that they are producing.

Of all the different tones I have heard guitarists use Shawn's is still my favourite.

  • 2:02

anyone who didn't get goose bumps?

  • Yeah, the only time when I didn't get them was when Shawn didn't move his hands.

  • When Shawn left this Earth, this song left a trail of tears in his wake. Just so beautiful, you can hear the sorrow in each note, yet turned into something beyond it.

  • @nicktheplumper lucky you

  • god bless him, this is my fav version

    heartouching

check my cover version if you like

  • very nice!!!

  • So simple but beautiful. His playing trenscends all emotions. I wish I was there to hear this myself. Thanks for posting.

  • this song is one of the greatest of all time.

when i heard it for the first time yestrday. i immediatelly set out for tabs. and i learned how to play it in tribute to shawn lane.

*LONG LIVE THE LEGEND AND MEMORY OF SHAWN LANE*

  • It's so satisfying to see a virtuoso put aside playing as fast and impressively as he possibly can and instead turn his attention to absolutely nailing an achingly beautiful melody. So incredible.

  • Tears Of Notes ...

  • only chills

  • His guitare ic crying ...

  • This song kinda reminds me of some jason becker song on his new album collection. It might be rain. idk

  • the intro is kinda opus pocus ish?

  • L-E-G-E-N-D

  • This song is unbelievable... I even checked Shawn's Yahoo group and read through it until the date of his death. It was like reading a story, except I knew the ending. All of this truly moved me and I vow not to let his musical voice die in vain.

  • It looks like, at the end Shawn turns and appears to wipe a tear from his eye with his finger... I had to use a bath towel:/

  • When a song can so perfectly convey a feeling/emotion... Words can't describe this man.

  • this is great just great R.I.P.

  • one of the best things i've ever heard

  • @saad5656

*cough* *cough* ONE of the best things you have ever heard? *cough* *cough*...*cough*.

  • This is when I just put my guitar down.

  • This is the main difference between Shawn and other players. Shawn improvises with such beautiful phrasing and emotion that he sounded good every time. Like the notes were part of the original song, f.ex. epilogue for Lisa live version from the powers of ten, just astonishing

  • Too bad this wasn't during the late 50's, while Miles was in his "So What" period. This would of made a hell of a "Blue In Green" type ballad, dude woulda dug Shawn.

  • Yes, I think Miles would have loved him! They could have done an awesome collaboration. I'd love to have heard him with Coltrane too-a duet of giants!

  • It's beautiful.

  • truly amazing

  • Man, it makes me cry!

  • every time..

  • A beauitiful piece. The work of many great artists fails to appeal to the masses. Sometimes this is because of the niche genre the artist is involved with. (Instrumental fusion music is pretty "off center" to what the masses generally consume music wise.) A surprising number of people over the age of 40 know who Al DiMeola is though.

Guitar players always knew about Shawn.

    This is gorgeous sounding.

  • I think DiMeola's popularity is largely thanks to his start with Return to Forever-between them, Mahavishnu, and Weather Report, fusion was almost mainstream for a brief, glorious while. Birds of Fire went gold!

  • one of the slowest pieces ive seen Shawn play, very nice tho!

  • I just realized the date on this video. Thanks for the birthday present Shawn. I might've only been two, but I appreciate it now. Rest in peace.

  • r.i.p...

  • Too hard to believe he's gone. RIP.

  • Why is it all the really amazing guitar players go so unnoticed?

  • I was just talking to my friend about that. No idea, it's a huge shame.

  • Well, I don't really agree about that. But it is truly a shame that Shawn just passed this world so unrecognized.

  • Yes-it's a shame, many greats are under-rated. Fortunately, there are exceptions-Hendrix, Jeff Beck, McLaughlin (to a lessor extent), etc.

  • So amazing.

    Yeah, its a ballad. Okay.

It sounds good, thats a plus.

He looks so moved by it. Plus his ending. Man. Moving.

  • Just shows how good a player Shawn was when he slowed down a bit.

  • You can see how much he truly loves music like its an extention of his soul.

  • The suffering in every note makes me squeeze my face! Beautiful playing. I was always glad that Shawn was so fully developed in his playing in an early age, so although he died in an early age he got a lot of incredible beautiful material out.

    R.I.P Shawn!

  • But imagine how good he would get beyond the reach of humans.

  • ABSOLUTLY BEATUFUL R.I.P SHAWN

  • To Anyone one who says shawn played with no soul. Just watch its beautiful...

  • i don't think anyone who says that should be taken seriously in the first place.

  • How true-no matter how great someone is, there's always a troll around who thinks it's clever to hurl stupid insults.

  • Absolutely breathtaking. This song gets me every time. The emotion cannot be duplicated. RIP

  • RIP Shawn... hopefully somebody is writing a song like this for you, man.

  • Very emotional song. The guitar is talking. I'll try to make a cover but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make my guitar weep like that.

  • This is a beautiful song. Come on over & check out my orginal ballad "Forget Me Not" of of my current album "Guitar with a Voice" Shawn was one of my favs!

    Thanks,

    Troy Clark

  • This is really incredible. He says so much by playing so little in this piece.

  • When feelings become music, or music becomes feelings...

You can see him cry, at the end he wipes away his tears

  • woah nice song..it looks like he's crying the whole time though

  • so much emotion in this song, one of the best songs ever

shawn you`ll always live in our hearts

    the best ever

  • Don't you feel the emotion, this is so beautiful.

  • He wrote this song for his sister i think.. i think i've heard something about that.. i dont remember why he wrote it though :)

  • She died in the mid 80's from a car accident.

  • after I listen to shawn and listen to just about any another guitarist, there just seems to be something missing.

  • wow how the fuck is this cheesy in any way.

    fail.

  • ....Enough with the spamming 'Shawn Lane' videos with negative comments. That's the third one you've trashed in just a matter of minutes.

If you don't like them, why do you bother watching them or seeking them out? Just stick to videos you like.

  • This is the greatest piece of music i have ever heard.

  • his hands look really small but it dosen't seem to affect his playing.

  • the guitar jack first through the heart and then reach the amplifier. RIP Shawn.

  • I cry when listen to this solo :(

  • wow, this definitely stirred up some feelings deep down... crazy how that can happen

  • RIP SHAWN! You where the best!

  • im gonna cry

  • It's called MI not MIT. it's also known as GIT though so you mighta got that confused

i know i sound like a major noob, but what type of guitar is that? i cant read the label on it.

  • I've heard it referred to multiple times as GIT, MI, 'and' MIT... so it IS kinda confusing.

    The guitar is a Charvel.

  • yeah, MI is the universitie's name and GIT is the guitar college's name. there's now a PIT(percusion) and VIT(vocal) within MI and some other stuff too.

charvel, thanks. i've seen buckethead use a charvel before, he used to use one way back when he was just getting started. i've seen it a lot on the youngbuckethead dvds but i never new the name of the guitar. im gonna try one of those out at guitar center next time im there

  • This is one of the most intense piece of music ever. POwerful and still so subtile at the same time. RIP Shawn.

  • He uses the tremolo the same way the same way derek trucks uses his slide, to get all the semi-tones out. There is alot of tone between fretted guitars that alot of ppl don't use, shawn found them. Almost like a brass instrument

  • check out michael lee firkins sizzlebizzle if you havent heard him. He is the master of that technique. He mimicks the sound of slide guitar with his whammy bar. His playings really interesting.

  • I love this tune so much, I had to leave another comment again for the second time. Whatever I'm doing at the time, as soon as I hear this tune from my stereo, I stop everything I was doing and stand like robot ran out battery... I can only stand still and listen. And it always makes me wanna cry at the end... =(

  • idk i cant explain how this song makes me feel. it brings up so many things. it is really amazing! i love it.

  • There are no words to describe it.. It is music at its best.

  • Such a beautiful melody.I also appreciate how he resisted any urge to shred,as sometimes fast players feel obligated to do such.

  • Incredibly beautiful. I´ve been comparing this to his acoustic version and came to the conclusion that his expression has nothing to do with equipment, it´s so beautiful regardless type of guitar or effects. The man was a true genius, he could play with hardly any effects and then select the perfect set of effects and express something different.

Thank you Shawn, you were allways great and every piece of music you touched turned to gold..

  • I fucking love this song, its so incredibly sad that someone like Shawn got taken away from us before his time.

  • It's so touching this song...

    He's such a lossssssss

  • Shawn is the best guitarist. Ever.

He, which few other players can do, uses the tremolo bar for the feel and effect of the music, not for just cool sounds and squeals. Bravo.
