The dvd as it now is, restored is approx 99 minutes long.
I understand that the original feature lenght was 105 minutes, before they cut out several sequences.
Apart from the swimming sequence that was restored for the dvd, there are several tit-bits of footage that I had never seen before in the earlier versions of this movie.
Actually it was Josephine McKim. She's mentioned in the MGM documentary (worth watching, though incomplete). It's the last link in the top block of links. I've put McKim's name into the 'more info' section. Maureen O'S said that she suffered claustrophobia, so they used an olympic swimmer. I think this shows in that marvellous sequence, which the Professional Prudes forced out of the original movie.
By "that movie", I take it that you mean the swim sequence in "Tarzan and His Mate". Apparently, the Code Enforcers also cut 17 minutes from the movie. Have they restored it back to the original footage?
Thanks. I really loved making this one. Music used to be so much fun!
Most of the clips came from a mini-documentary and the balletic pre-code underwater scene came from another YT video. He certainly was a powerful swimmer.
I don't know how Maureen O'Sullivan kept a straight face in that pandana sugarana scene.
Wow! I love the song, and the old Tarzan clips are fantastic! Errrr, I have to tell you that we did ca-thunk again, not exactly with the music but with Maureen O'Sullivan. I had been searching her photos for my next project. Hmmm, this ca-thunking is curiously intriguing. ;^]
Yes, I was aiming at 'Tarzan and his mate'.

Thanks, BD. That's a definite improvement -- only 6 minutes missing.

Great fun to look at and listen to.Well done!
The only thing missing in the end titles is the name of Jean Knapp though.
It's her you see in the underwater swimming secequence, swimming nude, together with Johnny Weissmuller.
She was Maureen O'Sullivan's stand-in, since Maureen was a poor swimmer and didn't like doing any swimming scenes in the Tarzan movies at all.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right about that.
Jean Knapp doubled for Maureen O'Sullivan in the later Tarzan movies, like Tarzan finds a son,and Tarzan's secret treasure.
Weissmuller's second Jane, Brenda Joyce, was a great swimmer and did her own swimming scenes though.
Fortunately we now have the dvd of the restored version of that movie, including the swimming sequence.
