  • @Guliaglamcam ELF is not quality brushes. It's just better than nothing. But you can't possibly compare ELF with MAC, come on. I have both and I also did with ELF when I didn't have money for MAC ones. But they are a world apart.

  • YOUR GORGEOUS!!! i love all your videos!!!!

  • I just wanted to say I love your videos! Just what I've needed to learn the new makeup techniques. I don't have time to read beauty magazines so your videos are perfect! Thank you again!

  • Have you tried any of the Sigma brushes? They are exact Mac dupes and the number are the same, but with SS before it. They have a SS217 which is the same as the Mac 217.

  • can you tell us how to get bright pink lips on lips that are naturally dark (for dark-skinned gals) ?

  • "They're pretty stiff and thick so they should stand up to the creams pretty well."

    That's what she said.

  • lmfaoooo. good catch

  • @amaya0223 wow thats immature

  • @msgrl95 I don't even remember my exact comment...it was along the lines of a That's what she said, wasn't it?

  • @amaya0223 yes it was, lol I look at that comment now and I guess it sounded a bit rude lol I was thinking the same thing when she said that and I just thought that it was funny the someone else was thinking the same thing I was thinking hahah.

  • @amaya0223 your an asshole...

  • you are amazing! i love your videos, you explain everything you talk about so well. (:

  • your face looks amazin here, and it hardly looks like you have on makeup, Beautiful. Do you have a tutorial for this

  • my elf kabuki is losing lots of bristles they faqll out in clumps and i just got it :( is there anything i can do?

  • yes- get a good quality brush! as a general rule, $15 is the minimum for an OK quality brush. Try QUO brushes...they might have a kabuki!

  • i love this...i've been wanting to know what type of brushes i should get since i'm still sort of a beginner...thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

  • i really dont like your eyebrows

  • hey[[=

ive seen ur videos .....i love them

u really kno how to explain things well

  • How often should you change your brushes?! I have heard people say that they get too "germy" to use after six months! Any info?

  • @omgitslisa8 If by change you mean throw away, you should have to for a while as long as you're taking good care of your brushes and cleansing them well. You can use brush cleaner, or just some antibacterial soap. I prefer the tea tree shampoo from paul mitchell because it's naturally anti bacterial and it smells good. Basically though, as long as your cleaning them you shouldn't have to toss them until they start falling apart.

  • @MommyNeva Oops, meant shouldn't. Lol, you SHOULDN'T have to for a while.

  • that's not true, they can last years if you take good care of them ^-^ check Marlene's website she has a tutorial how to clean them

(sorry... lol I'm kinda nosy XD)

  • don't throw them away until the bristles are worn! look at juicystar07 's brush care video- i use it for my brushes and it works REALLY well!

  • To mingzhuyan88

Thank your for answering my questioning about using brushes. Finger tip application is not good for blending powders. Thank you :)

  • love your hair style

  • I just got a REALLY good and beautiful brush set from wal mart, I've bought a brush set from wal mart before that just completely sucked but this one is GREAT quality and it only cost 14.00

  • What's your opinion of the Essence of Beauty eye kit from CVS? I like them, but it only comes with 4 double sided brushes. I might be able to afford the 217 brush, but that's if I save my money or ask for it for Christmas, haha.

  • 217 from MAC is my favorite brush ever

  • I have it!Except it comes with more brushes! :]

Mine comes with eyebrow grooming brush and blush brush with an angle smal brush for like maybe filling in your eyebrows and more. Its awesome! It also comes with the lip brush as you had the one thats comparable macs 222 i think. :] i love them! :]

  • Your voice is so pleasant and so with your smile.

  • does anyone recommend where i can get budget friendly brushes? I don't have to much money and i would like to start building my brush collection. Thank you very much for your help! God bless

  • at walmart there are ones by ecotools and you can get a set of 5 for $13 and they are SOOO SOFT! I live in canada so it's like impossille to findthe sonia kashuk ones

  • e.l.f. is execellent

everythings a dollar and it's good quality

    oprah even recommended it

  • yer i know it just came to my local dg store and i'm SO excited lol

  • eyes lips and face . com all there stuff is ONE DOLLAR well 90% of their stuff

  • can u get the white-handled brushes that you showed forst at wal-mart or shoppers drug mart, I live in Canada! :P

  • where did you get you curtains? I love them! :)

  • brushes are expensive what 3 or 4 brushes that I really need?

  • i have the posh brushes and i love them! they're great for smokey eyes!

  • Wait does target still have the sonia cashic brushes or watever?

  • Have you tried the sigma brushes? What do you think of them? I'm thinking of getting a set from them..

  • for the 219 doop try the small crease brush by essence of beauty from CVS

  • sigma has a great duplicate to the mac 217. I recently bought it and love it!!! It is a lot cheaper than the mac as well.

  • Do MAC brushes last longer than others?

  • I can say that it does in fact last longer. The bristles do not come off/shed a lot. Compared to drug store brush sets.

It really depends on the care for the brushes. I wash my MAC brush sets atleast 2 times a month. They are in perfect condition

  • yes some of them can last 10 years if you take good care of them

  • do u make sure tht the makeup has none of those bad ingrediants like acetone and something else tht starts with a.

  • to clean brushes u should wash them carefully with baby shampoo and leave them to dry horizontally..like once a month if u used them a lot..

  • what is a good price range for your average eye brush???and kabuki brush?

  • I have a fatter "Beauty Essentials" make up brush that I used for blush about a year ago but then stopped using. I want to start using powder blush again, so I would need to clean my old blush brush. However, I don't know how to clean brushes for my face, especially ones with old make up still in them.

    Help please?

  • Just use warm water and a bit of shampoo. Most brushes, after all, are made out of hair.

  • QUESTION lol

is there a way of cleaning the brushes without ruining them?

say like i use black and then a light blue?

because it seems silly to buy 2 of each>???

    reply?

  • cleaning them ruins them??

    i didnt know that..

  • no actually cleaning your brushes makes them last longer. its just if you over clean or use harsh chemicals to clean em, you can ruin em.

  • Have you tried the Sigma brushes?

  • its like $22 or something around that.

  • What about sigma brushes...are they better than MAC?

  • What is your opinion of using finger tips for applying eye shaddow?

  • finger tips apply good for the eye lids, but they don't blend good, they don't blend at all.

you'll end up with harsh lines.

  • i THINK that the Sonia Kashuk Smudge Brush can be a dupe for the 228, correct me if im wrong cuz i think im buying the Sonia Kashuk one instead of mac's 228.

  • sephora has a dupe for the 228. its nice too. (:

  • Thanks for the information!!!

  • Thats a really useful video, thanks!I've been searching EVERYWHERE for a duplicate of the 219 as i don't want to spend all that money, but i still can't find one! I know that MissJessicaHarlow on youtube has her own store which sells a pencil brush, but i'm not sure how it compares to the 219.

  • There is a Sonia Kashuk brush that I think may be similar. I've never seen a 219 in person, but I think the Sonia Kashuck one may be a little more pointed. I can't remember what it's called, but maybe someone else on here knows what I mean and can tell if it's similar or not.

  • I'm not really sure where i can get Sonia Kashuk brushes in the uk though :(

  • ano its not fair the U.S get all the good things dont they ! lol ;)

  • What's the difference between the mac 208 brush, the mac 263 brush, and the mac 266 brush? Which is best for a gel liner or fluid line?

  • You can get posh brushes at Kmart!

  • I was looking at those when I was last in there! Are they any good?

  • I like them a lot, actually. Very soft bristles and little to no shedding.

  • hey...ok I know this is a little off topic but did u get ur curtains from target and if you didnt where did you get them?...I've been trying to find damask curtains but i cant find any that I like except the one at target...

  • I am really digging your look in this video!. So simple and beautiful. What kind of lipstick/gloss are you wearing?

  • i have found a dupe for macs 217 brush! It will be easier for people in england cos i got mine from boots. its the no7 blending and contour eyeshadow brush. It's just like the 217, the bristles are very stiff and it's dome shaped and it works great for me. so theres a dupe for the 217 for everyone:) Love your videos Marlena, you're the BEST:) xxx

  • Its true! I went and bought it today. It's 6 pounds from boots. It is almost identical to MACs 217, only it is the tiniest bit smaller. i think Boots ship to the US to.

  • what kind of camera do you use for your videos?

  • can you someday show some cheaper brushes please i don't have that money for mac and max brushes. i heard about coastal scent ones but i'm not so sure if there that good. x x x

  • do u know how can i post her my make picture?pleaseeeee

  • you should try sigma brushes. There are many reviews here and many gurus say they are comparable to mac

  • She got them from target... i'd say that's pretty decently priced... You should expect to spend atleast $40 for a brush set.

  • Why are the brushes laying on a towel in a box???

  • do u know how can i post her my make picture?pleaseeeee

  • They were probably drying. She might have just washed them. :]

  • i really love how you have some decent prices for brushes :) i absolutely love your videos!

  • Talk about being a hater...

  • pfft yeah!

  • u asshole she's beautiful! and she doesn't need to lose weight she's fine the way she is!

  • OMG u are a total life saver

  • the 218 from sigma brushes is a good dupe for mac 217 n it is VERYYY cheap

  • does anyone know a good brand to get brushes from that I can buy in the UK?

  • This really helped me thanks!

  • Your face kinda reminds me of Hillary Clinton, this is not meant as an insult. xD

  • They do have similar face structures. I just noticed that.

  • Totally! xD

  • LOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • lol :)

  • does anyone know a doup for the pink kibuki brush?

  • it's only 5 dollars

  • I am completely new to make-up (I'm 19, I've just never cared before) and so I'm just starting out my brushes collection. But with all the other make-up I need to buy (foundations, powders, shadows, etc) I don't have a ton of money. I know the Kashuk line is pretty cheap, but I found a cheaper line at Sally Beauty Supplies (sallybeauty . com) called Face Secrets. Have you heard of them? Do you know if it's a good buy or if I should splurge a bit for the other ones?

  • Face Secrets..is really good i own the eye brushes the...are great!

  • I would reccommend the Essence of Beauty brushes from CVS..they're much cheaper and work just like MAC :)

  • they begin to irritate the eye area when u use them for alot of blending on a daily basis. and it just gets worse after u wash them.

  • marlena please send me your email i wanna talk to u

  • hiyah where do u get ur paint pots

  • I have 17 fake MAC brushes, but my mom is convinced they are real! If you would like to take a look at my MAC haul video to see if they look real or not to you, and comment!

  • I could kill to find out the name of the lipstick you are wearing in this video Marlena. That warm peachy pink is awesome!

  • when i shade i use the bare essentials precision eye brush that has a brush on each end. it looks to be comparable with the 228 (:

  • the other end actually looks like the 219. (:

  • i love sonia kashuk line, i have 3 white handled brushes, the small shadow brush, crease brush (too big for my eye) and a angled brush. and my sonia k. blending brush has a black handle, and i love it because the handle is super long and i can have control with it

  • where'd you get your curtains from??? :)

  • I use some Loew Cornell brushes as dupes... I've also been known to trim my brushes some of the inexpensive brushes so they work for me. I couldn't find a dupe for a pencil brush for a long time, then decided to trim one I recieved for FREE from an Avon Rep, and it works so awesome!!! I can't live without it, and wouldn't replace it with a MAC brush because it works that well.

  • Hey Marlena could you use the posh crease brush as a 219 dupe?

    p.s love ur vids

  • I love your videos, thanks! Very helpful & you really explain/demonstrate clearly.

I got a Posh Brush travel kit for $11ish at K-Mart. It has a powder brush, foundation brush + some smaller 2-ended eye brushes/etc: = 8 brushes. They're great! So portable/'purse-able'. The sturdy nylon zipped case is only 1"x3", + I've squeezed in 2 more brushes + a sponge. Amazing! If any of you brush geeks find this & review it, that would be great. Much better brushes than other drug store travel brush sets.

  • So informative. Loved it. Thanks so much!

  • i tried some mineral makeup and it really irritated my skin, i put on facial lotion before because i was told it could irritate skin but it still irritated my skin.. what do you suggest? Im not a big foundation person i really only use brown liner, eye liner and eye shadow.. i enjoy the natural look. I am fair skin with freckles!

  • Is there anything wrong with using paintbrushes as makeup brushes? If you get paintbrushes in the same shape?

  • thats exactly what i do ^^ e.g. if its a kinda really soft brush u can use it for blendin :) its cheaper and works well ;) but u cant subtitute every single brush :(

  • go to my website it is aboywearingmakeup (dot) com

  • i love ur collection too wish i had one like day i wud b hella happy lmao

  • hey, i was wondering if you could recommend any makeup primers that would be good for oily skin to get rid of shine? i live in australia and find it hard to get a lot of the products that are available to you in the US so could you reccomend any that are available in australia? i've been using inglot and it makes my skin very shiny and i have been getting a lot of break outs from it.

  • well, i have oily skin too and i live in Malaysia which is summer all year long.LOLS!

i use the MAC prep n primer n so far it works for me :) n i dont use moisturizer before putting on make up cuz it'll make my face shine even more..

  • no it cant you fool

  • actually it can genius. look it up. that's y it has to b washed thoroughly after use. contains chemicals. get over urself people. i didn't insult this tutorial -- or ur desperate attempts to cling to youthful beauty by any means

  • Yes, you're right, it can have negative effects if not removed properly or if you're allergic to it, but i think it's safe to say that most people watching tutorials like this are pretty much aware of the "dangers", so there's no need for the warning, thanks.

  • actually this is youtube, which is a public web site open to anyone, not just cosmetologists and other makeup "geniuses" like u. so perhaps there are ppl new to makeup watching this. thanks.

  • I agree, but if that's the case, then those unfamiliar with makeup will read a comment like your first one and take it at face value- i'm just saying that if you're going to make claims like that "for the sake of beginners", then you need to give them the proper facts rather than extreme comments. Also, it's not very kind to assume that people use makeup because they're desperate to "cling" to beauty or youth- most of just use it because it's fun and it's a form of self-expression. No offence.

  • all i was saying was be careful with makeup use. it's a well known fact that overuse of makeup, like women who can't leave the house without it, is unhealthy for your skin. also, foundation easily clogs pores and leads to even worse skin conditions -- which is why a lot of companies are putting out mineral and all-natural products with labels that say "does not clog pores." no offense taken, i appreciate that ur comments are coherent not just cursing at me for having a diff point of view than u.

  • ok lighten up. Everyone has their own reasons for using makeup. Im pretty sure most odf the people use makeup to try to cover up something they dont like abotu their face. Even people with the perfect skin sometimes dont like what they have.

  • The warning is always need it and appreciated for the beginners, is less range of "danger" when you get info, that avoid a negative effects, unfortunately do not avoid a negative comments.

  • i like the whole collection cvs has. They work great.
