if you have a cell phone that has a sim card, and your phone plan has data completely disabled, you CAN put your sim into an iphone, as long as the sim you are putting in from the same company. put your sim in, turn on the iphone, go to Settings, go to general, go to network, then make sure that "enable 3g" and "cellular data" are turned off. not sure if this works with the newer iphone, since i did this with the iphone 3g. Hope it helps!

hey my video shows you how to have an iphone without internet, you can still call, text, and everything, an use wifi for apps that require internet, this works 100% i know because i have done it :) the only downside: you cannot send or recieve pic messaging, but there is always email, and thats a pretty small price to pay for being able to save alot of money!

if you put your sim card into the iphone and activate it using itunes with the data plan. then when the data plan is added then put your sim card back into you non smartphone, then call att and tell them you do not want the data plan anymore because your not using the iphone anymore AND TELL THEM TO BLOCK THE INTERNET. Then when they block the internet put the sim card back into the iphone.

So this may or may not work, but if you really cant risk getting charged for using iPhone Data plan, the BEST way is to call ATT and tell them you want to "block" the account/phone number from ANY data/internet access, this will stop your iPhone from every contacting ATT and they will never AUTO-Activate your 30 3G data plan... all other methods have eventually caused att to start billing me on my gf ATT family plan

WARNING Doing this now will after a week of usage (or going to another country and coming back) automatically re-enables the DATA plan WITHOUT TELLING YOU, I called ATT and they said that it automatically does this when an iPhone is detected by them. My GF was using a 3GS on 3.1.3 Jailbroken, If you Unlock it, it will not effect the ATT check, you will have to CHANGE THE APN settings to blanks before you can stop ATT from finding out, turning off 3G and Edge does not work.
