I must re-evaluate this video: It's honestly my favourite work of yours (which is why I favourited it), really the song and concept mixed with Barnaby's reactions and Charlie's awesome dancing makes me wanna watch it over and over.
and I like the black and white it's a good touch. Not.
and I like the song. I think it's funny. s!k3 not.
and ur face is a noob.
but i really you're very talented and should really keep making more videos for my viewing pleasure....JKJKJKJKJK!
and people probably think I'm extremely annoying now but they just don't understand. right!? psych i don't want your sympathy. wait yes i do... not... psych.
Visually, I like it. As far as plot content... well, you could have been a bit clearer. I don't think coherency has to be sacrificed for the sake of style, and something definitely felt missing here.
Sorry it took me so long to actually get around to watching.
good vid not into it but, it would of been nice to see the lady crushing the glasses more than just once. If that was the one lady who crushed them but good vid... I do like it... though...
My read on this is that it's about "being alone in a crowd", small crowd version. I think it would better limited to a group of three.
There should be an establishing scene where the guy between the girls acknowledging then equally. Things advance until the two are lost in each other when the third wheel drops out of the shot. The couple dances on taking no notice, not looking down. The images you selected are good. I would just alter the performance and blocking to advance the characters.
I think the pacing is fine. I really don't think you needed to make more cuts. The only thing I would say is that you could have made the cuts more precise to the beat and to the clapping in the song. I really like how the pacing of the cuts speeds up when the guy fell down and his glasses were stepped on. Overall, good job. :)
I'm curious, was there a specific topic or were there guidelines you had to follow for this final film?
I really like it, but I think there should be more cuts. As it is, it doesn't quite flow with the rhythm of the song. Almost, but not quite. But I still think it's pretty good. Nice mood. A light dark comedy. If that makes sense.
Adam, as always, great work. I really like this. What I got from it was too often the happiness and enjoyment of people comes at the expense of others. People don't care what happens to the downtrodden in society as long as they can continue enjoying themselves. At least that's my take on it.
I quite liked the suddenness of the fall. Really jarred and grabbed the attention. And the juxtaposition of the music over the action works really well I think. Can't fault it really.
i agree with the make it quicker. tweek the editing just a bit. it would also look better if you had more angles shot maybe? like from above. the shots are kinda messy also, its kinda distracting to whats going on in the scene. if you could re-shoot maybe work on that. also on the re-shot if possible, i feel like the first part would look better outside then its brought inside. so then you only have to reshoot the begining. just my thoughts, cool idea though. i like it.
however, since i know you want critiques, i feel that the beats of some of the editing and actions we see on screen aren't fast enough to meet the pace of the music at times, so it feels like it's moving slow at some points, even though it's not, just because it's slightly off pace. if that makes sense.
That does make sense. I wonder if the thing to pick up the pace at points would be more quick cuts or quicker dancing. I mean obviously I can't reshoot so the latter is unchangeable, but still..
yeah i think it was more in the 'quicker dancing' category. you can't reshoot, but you could speed it up in post. it'd only be a subtle increase in speed so maybe it wouldn't be noticeable? quicker editing too, like you said.
What I ***do*** enjoy is way you move the camera, the angels and such you choose to shoot from - it gives it immediacy, feeling--reminds me of a John Cassavetes film--I also really enjoyed the song and the energy/mood of the short.
BUT, what's the point? People dancing and then someone drops? Well, why? What's the point? The narrative missing something...it's frustrating.
fun=)

This is the story of my life, though my life isn't as well-edited as your film. Good work. Keep them coming, please!

I feel responsible for this madness
And this totally reminded me of Billy Madison. I expected blood to start dripping out of the kid's mouth.

That would've been a good touch.
You are totes responsible.

quick cuts would probably give you the pace that you need. As onebre says a slight increase in speed would help too.

the dancing and smiling next to the fallen person seems almost grotesque
and the song is super catchy!

honestly, this is stupid. whats the point? people dancing, so what...someone drops to the floor, glasses crushed...who cares.
spaghetti western on a stick is much more innovative.

Haha, thanks for being honest.
I can't say I see any reason to care in SWoaS, either, but I'm glad you liked that and sorry you didn't like this.
Anything in particular about this that made you feel like you didn't care or was it just the general idea of the thing?

Why does it take the death of Barnaby for a boy and a girl to dance together? Speaking of which... HANDS OFF MY BOYFRIEND.
