The disappointment of Halo 2 almost killed the series for me, and even though Halo 3 was more like what Halo 2 should have been, the damage to the storyline was done, and I've never viewed it the same way as when I first laid my hands on Halo:CE. Also, it didn't elude to the inclusion of a second storyline with another lead character: the arbiter. Halo CE never gave us a good reason to be sympathetic towards the covenant, and fleshing out the covenant in Halo 2 ruined their mystique. While the arbiter was a decent character, his storyline was inherently less intriguing purely because he was an enemy to the humans.
I disagree. I actually prefer the Arbiter to Master Cheif. And the Arbiter storyline was epic-possibly one of the best aspects of the game. The Covenant Civil War depicted in the game was amazing. Delving into the covenant just added to the mystique, and did not detract at all.
I love Halo but if you think Halo 2 looked anywhere near as good as this trailer, then you are a deluded ultra-fanboy. First, look at that lighting. Second, look at those lovely textures. Lastly and most obviously, look at the awesome reflections in the MCs visor in this trailer...

Yes it is. Bungie just got a split from Microsoft so they don't have to play puppet anymore. You watch, Halo 3: ODST will be the best thing Bungie has done since Halo 1, and it's because Microsoft isn't telling Bungie how to make the game.

My all time favorite moment in any Halo game is when Master Chief jumps out of a ship to "Give the Covenant their bomb back.

Instead, it was about three or four levels in and you fight the goddamn Flood all over again...
