Yea rats do make noise when they're scared, my pet rat Benny cries when I give him a bath, he's thankful later when he's all clean! They do clean themselves of course but he's an only rat, he can't reach the hard to get areas. The one you caught is pretty young still, also I think it would have been better if you released him somewhere where there wasn't as many snakes perhaps?

Cool. Thanks for doing the cruelest thing you could possibly do to it in your apparent effort to be "humane". The thing will be torn to shreds by the local mice the instant they get a whiff of him. If you absolutely, positively could not live with it any more, you really, really REALLY would've done it a much bigger favor by just killing the thing. There is no "humane mouse trap" if the solution is releasing them "unharmed" at a distance - their death will be more painful than a snap trap.

What on Earth? That sort of comment is just.. a bit sickening & shocking. People are extremely uneducated and irrationally afraid of rats. Rats are actually one of the most intelligent animals, not to mention easily trained, quite social, and overall - interesting. If you ever have the chance to meet a rat - perhaps a friend's pet - you'll likely notice these traits. I have a couple pet rats and they remind me of my dog in many ways. Rats are awesome, not some terrible monster.

Rats are not particularly rampant and in areas where they are, it's people's own faults. You can just keep tons of trash all over a house and expect insects and rats/mice not to enter the house. Being all violent about it ("then slice its neck and drown it") is not only cruel but doesn't solve anything.. It's not worth brutally killing other beings if we simply find them annoying. Plus, rats only spread disease, like dogs or cats, if they're sick.
