Computer repair is not dead. Now who in their right minds would keep forking over $500 for a new laptop everytime they have a virus or if the HDD fails. For virus & spyware removal is only $79.00 and not too much more for a HDD replacement. Small network setup is not bad either. It's always cheaper to fix your PC than to buy a new one even at $350 or $500.
Computer repair is always needed and is not as expensive as you think. I've seen many virus removals for $80 and simple optimization boosts for $50. You wouldn't be surprised that even a new $340-$479 laptop is still expensive to many people who prefer to fix their laptop for $50-$100 especially if they have a lot of software and data they don't want to transfer or reinstall to a new laptop.
@yankzpat Agreed, besides in today's present economy most people can can't afford to purchase a new laptop. Most of the people that walk into my shop have the "ride it till the wheels fall off mentality".
Totally wrong argument my good friend Eli!

Yes, right now I'm selling memory upgrades like hotcakes to get people through until the "wheels do fall off." But, that's just me.

If you think it's a dying industry, then you aren't marketing or positioning yourself well enough.
