hotrod....Having raced against these "SEMI-DECENT" drivers I would say you are off the mark. Drivers like Travis, Mirra, Block, ACP, Matt Johnson, Foust, Lawless, and a host of others you haven't heard of, are some of the finest drivers in the RA series. Granted some have moved on to other venues but they, as well as many others in the series, are a far shot above semi-decent. Unless you tried it, your blowing hot air about things you know nothing about.
@STI821 ..you missed last year's champion, Le'Stage. anyway... Sabastian Loeb, both of the Soldberg Brothers, and many more i could name could beat anyyy RA driver at any given time. Those names are good in Rally America, but in WRC they would be nothing. Pastrana actually tried a couple of WRC events, but failed miserably. Hence why he didn't do what Block did and step it up. Block did the same as Pastrana, but was the only to show anyyy chance of promise for WRC.
@TruenoandLevin86 Yeah subaru did good! Seven of the top ten drivers were behind the wheel of subarus.
Was surprised to see Van Way and Duplessis in the top ten running FWD! Good for them, they had to be really hauling butt to keep up with the AWD guys on snow.
The seventh place finisher was a grass roots driver named Matt Marker. He built his car from scratch in about three months or so. Imo, these are the type of guys that subi should be helping out. Yeah great, some bmx rider decides he wants to try rally and subaru says, "here, take this $100,000 car and see what you can do." I guarantee if you put someone like Marker in the same car as Mirra, Marker would have probably placed ahead of the bmx rider. just my two cents.
@mjkbyrnc22 That is what I love about Rally America. Having underdogs to root for. While I can't argue with the publicity these X games hotshots have brought to the sport, are their fans true pigs or just flat billin' brotatos? For now I will bite my tongue. I am lucky that the Ojibwe/Headwaters rallys are nearly in my backyard. Sad to see that it no longer is a championship event but the regional guys I tend to like more. Less bling and more true grit.
I propose a new WRC rule. Manufacturers must use factory drivetrains. Since Ford and Citroen are the only two supported WRC manufacturers; both of which are wrong wheel drive from the factory~ the WRC just divided by zero and self imploded. Leaving Subaru Mitsubishi Mini Audi and others the true world rally champions.
@TheRallycrossKing Definately a the Honda Civic, 2WD drive cars are much cheaper to race with and there is alot more competition, plus there are programs like MaxAttack which are just for 2WD drive car
@fueldragster ya i like the max attack program but i just wish entry fees werent so spendy and they are strict about there car specifications but i guess safety first haha
Rally America is so much better than WRC. Just look at the cars.
Rally America: subaru, mitsu, vw, ford, dodge, chevy s10 v8, stingray corvette, new mustang. Neat unique rigs that have personality.
WRC: One cookie cutter ****box after another. All of em having little liter and a half motors that sound like a hornets nest on fire. Holy **** honey! We just got
passed by a weed eater! Followed by a Stihl chainsaw powered skoda.
@hotrodrodrodrod84 i don't want to sound angry, but Rally America is no where CLOSE to being better to WRC. WRC drivers make Rally America drivers look horrible. it's wayyyyyyy better than Rally America.
WRC has 2 manufacturers. FAIL. They drove the true manufacturers out or into sub-classes. This is why I hate the WRC for what they did to the sport. Sure they have the best driving talent in the world. I could care less how good they are when they are driving over regulated sardine cans. That is what makes Rally America so much better. As long as the vehicle is safe and meets the guidelines of a class it will race. Any manufacturer is welcome. V8 truck? Sure, you can race.
@hotrodrodrodrod84 actually MINI is making their comeback in WRC. but no, a V8 truck can't race in Rally America. There's a loadddd of rules in RA that apparently you're not seeing. A Subaru WRX STI (any year) can be up to full rally speculations, but can a first year driver run it in a race? no. Rookie's can't drive anything with a turbo. AND, the lineup of cars in Rally America may as well be 2 manufacturer anyway. All you see is Subarus and Mitsubishis driven by SEMI-DECENT drivers.
If a truck can't race how come Jim Cox running #558 a Chevrolet S10 V8 has raced the Ojibwe/Bunyan race for years? How about a new 2010 mustang? Mark Utecht and Mike Hurst ran one as a publicity stunt for Ford a couple years ago. I know there are rules. 113 pages of them for 2011. Obviously they won't let you jump into this craziness as a rookie. Most rookies start out with cheap nat-aspirated FWD cars. I agree it is mostly subi/mitsu, but it isn't ONLY them like with Ford/Citroen in WRC.
@hotrodrodrodrod84 u dont no wht your talking about wrc is the top off the world rallying class you can't get no higher and rally usa is no way near wrc levels..
I love the way Subarus handle. Too bad their production cars are so darn ugly. I have a 2007 Subaru Legacy and it seems each model year gets uglier. How am I to trade up?
@TheRallycrossKing fwd is safest. honda is very reliable . dsm is cheap and plentiful but not as reliable . for me.. i rally cross 2wd fwd car. cheapest class to run in. subaru if you want to spend the money will be fastest. but again.. novices can be fast in 2wd. in my wrx i can wax other folks.. because I practice in a 2wd car.
@darkshadowscene rumors are going around Snowboarder Shaun White might be doing Rally, Vermont Sportscar (same company who build's Subaru's Rally Cars) build him an STi Rally Car
@TheDennyvu they could use the new Subaru Trezia (europe) with the european 1.5L boxer enginer upped to 1.6...or even the impreza...why not the good old impreza..
I like Dave Mira but I do wish Ken and Travis had stayed on the team =(
