can my cheap psu ( inter tech sl 500 w) run well with this cpu ? (my specs x4 955 black edition 4gb ram ddr2 1333mhz hd 4650 1gb (55w) ) i dont think if it is a good psu... :/ cuz the cpu need around 125-130w...or more... thank you
@SirHubCAp You be better of buying a DDR3 motherboard, their cheaper, DDR2 motherboards is hard to come by today and DDR3 memory modules are much cheaper then DDR2 since DDR2 is being phased out from the market. A-DATA makes very affordable high quality memory modules both for normal desktop and gaming computers. I can recommend Fractal Design power supplies if you can get them in your country. Fractal Design is a Swedish company that makes very high quality products to very affordable prices.
I'm seriously thinking about getting this CPU but I'm not sure that it will work well with my graphic card. Someone at the store told me that my graphic card is not good enough to support this CPU and i wont be able to use the CPU to it's max. is this true?? my graphic card is an radeon hd 3800, its 512mb, the core runs at 680MHz, it has a bandwidth of 53GB/s and a texture/pixel fill rate of 10.7GB/s.
Plz respond to this as soon as possible, i really need some advice. Thanks!
the AMD Phenom II X4 945 is what I have, and i was wondering how do you set it so it performs at its best 3.0ghz at all times? Instead of performing better when mroe tasks are displayed. Im not sure if you get what im saying... but yeah like now all 4 cores are balanced at 800mhz, but i rather it perform at its best and not when it needs to.
@crazyspooks10 Go to Power Management in Windows XP and set it to Desktop (Allways On.) I think it's called In Windows 7 and Vista set it to High Performance. Then also turn of Cool and Quiet in Bios. Hope this helps. This makes your cpu run a full speed all the time.

The system I am going to build, but I need your help to determine whether it is "worth it" or "done well for a first-timer..XD"
@m3ean Nice. I can't oc my cpu to more the 3.6Ghz after that I get BSOD. I got a 1000 watt psu so that is not the problem. I think it's the other components on the mobo that cant take it. I now got a XFX HD 5870 XT oc'ed to 900Mhz(865Mhz default) and memory at 1300Mhz(default). I get really strange score in 3DMark06, only 2000 points more then with my old HD 4870.
@Hellderwish Thanks for the tip. I think I wont though because the warranty goes to hell if I do. If my XFX HD 5870 XT would break all the 400 euros I payed for it would go to waste.
One of mine had a RAM issue but it was overclocked. I just flashed an Locked Original BIOS on the Card back and send it to my local dealer and they never messed up :D
@m3ean I increased the voltage to 1.42 volt for both the CPU and the North Bridge and I still get BSOD at 3.7Ghz. I think it's the components that cant take it. Hell this motherboard isn't suppose to support this cpu lol. When I got this cpu it didn't work at all with this motherboard. I wrote to Gigabyte and they sent me a new bios that made it work. So if I can't overclock as much as I want it might not be so strange since the motherboard isn't suppose to support this cpu.
@m3ean Thanks for offering your help but I'm about to upgrade my motherboard to one with AMD's latest chipset and with that I also have to upgrade the memory modules to DDR3.
3.6Ghz is stable for me, I have been running it on 3.6Ghz now for 8 months. I've tried 3.7Ghz but the computer just suddenly reboots when I play a game.
Well it's probably the almost the same config that makes the difference and also I turned off all background programs when I did the benchmark. What's even weirder is that I only get 19k+ with my new HD 5870 in 3DMark06 and almost 16K in 3DMark Vantage. With my HD 4870 I got 6K+ in 3DMark Vantage.
yea me too, im running at 3.9 ghz at 27 c, when got it to 4 ghz it still runs cool it just crashes when i stress test it. did you changes the voltages?
now that the thermal paste is completely cured its running 3.9 at about 28-29. i am using the xigmatek dark knight and i also have the nzxt tempest evo case that hepls suck a lot of air out with aftermarket fans.
If you said it to me to buy a HD 5850 I can inform you that I got a XFX Radeon HD 5870 XT since a month and a new LCD monitor too with 1920x1080 resolution.
I must say that i never had buy this but one had say me dont buy the GTX 260 because that ive bought a HD 5850 with Dx11 its better and cheaper on my its Run great
XFX Radeon HD 5870 XT runs great on my system but when it comes to Crysis and in 1920x1080 it runs litte faster then on my old 1440x900 monitor and HD 4870. Mind that 1920x1080 has 777600 pixels more then 1440x900. Every other game runs perfect in every way.
My Phenom II X4 955 BE is never on full load when I'm playing games not even when I'm playing Crysis, Cysis only uses half the power of the cores the same goes for other cpu intensive games. Todays high end cpu's has more then enough power to run all the latest games.
@utltrarama wow really cool i mean really no sense in buying something to even empty out the fluff in your pocket when you can buy cheaper things that run the same so thanks man just saved me 120$
You're welcome. If you buy Phenom II X4 955 BE you'll get a cpu that will run the latest games for you with no problems for at least 2-3 years ahead. As it is today there is almost no games that uses all four cores to it's full potential. Only thing that uses the cores to the max is 3D rendering programs and video editing programs.
well not a bad system you got there but overclocking just for crappy 300MHZ?! you should get an Scythe Mugen 2 or an CoolerMaster V10 cooler and then overclock to 3.8GHZ and more important throw away that DDR2 RAM every Mainboard which is good nowadays supports at least DDR3 1333 RAM (currently its not really faster than DDR2 but its better for keeping your system up to date) but all in all nice vid thx for uploading
My cpu is running at 3.6Ghz and my motherboard cant cope with higher then that, I've tried 3.8Ghz but then I get BSOD. I have Scythe Kama Angle cpu cooler. I'm buying HD 5870 next week and next upgrade is new motherboard and 8GB ram DDR3 1600Mhz. It's not the temps that go to high when I reach 3.8Ghz, it only reaches 52 C at high load but after while in the cpu stress test I get BSOD.
@jcrew3002 they have basically blackmailed companies into using their products. If they dont, they dont get to use intels cpus and what not for their products. Seeing it as intel is about 60% of the market that would be a big hit. So they bully companys into only selling/building intel. Hints the multi billion dollar lawsuit from amd
@McClover intel processors are more powerful, but not worth the money. inetl chips on average are about twice as expensive as the amd equivalent, and while better, they are not twice as powerful maybe 1.25-1.3 times more powerful. Some people think its worth the money, some dont. Thats where you get fan boys from.
@xenomorph856 Ehh i agree but then at the same time disagree, I had a couple Intel chips before and idk. They just don't to be pushing out the right power i should be getting with the price. You seem to be just paying for the brand and now what your getting. Know what i mean
@utltrarama it is slightly worse then the 4870, perhaps comparable to a 4850. they had to do this as it costs the same and incorporates dx 11 so they had to worsen it slightly to make up for the pricing.
I have the exakt system, (chassi and PSu etc may differ) but I only got 15800. Is it better with lower ram, My CPU is still not OC is that the main difference and the reason to why I get lower Marks? Or have you OC the 5770 aswell?
Well they are pretty much equal these cards, I looked at some reviews and ATi Mobility HD 4870 got higher score in 3dmark 05 and 3dmark 06. But hey I'll send you the links to the reviews so you can decide for your self. =)
Id say what ever platform you are running. If you have an AMD platform get the ATi 4870 and if its Intel you might be better off Nvidia. Otherwise, they are pretty equal as ultrarama said.
If you are asking what window version I'm running this on ?, it's on Windows XP x64 edition. But now I'm on Windows 7 64bit and the frames per second is almost at no difference compared to Windows XP x64 edition.
That's strange, but then again this is a video that you are rendering and not gameplay (which is more CPU/GPU intensive). But I saw a few benchmark statistics and games like Crysis, Farcy, etc perform at a much higher framerate on Windows Vista and Windows 7, while XP seemed to languish. I guess the operating system makes more usage of the components of the PC.
Yeah gpu demos like this uses much more resources then games does. I use Windows 7 now and the performance in Crysis is the same as in XP, I think the performance is excellent in Windows 7.
Hey I'm thinking of getting this system also. Same processor but with the Radeon HD 5770. What kind of power supply and memory do you think ill need? same as you?
Does that Gigabyte GA-MA770 mobo you have support PCIe cards? Do all Gigabyte bords suport AMG and PCI? when did this happen?
i have a 965, clocked it on 3,8 and it was flawless. i clocked it up to 4GHz to fulfill a long time want of mine :) and now i have it back @ 3,4. we don't really need those OC speeds yet actually.
sapphires are great btw, got a hd4890 2gb and it always works great and cool.
Go for ATi HD 5870 1GB or the 2GB version. You'll get the best performance out there in a single card and one other great thing is that it supports DX11 on Windows 7.
I am somewhat scared of heights and games and benches like these where there you are in the sky really scares me sometimes if it is realistic enough :P
just let u know i hop u know what u talking about AMD and ATi AMD is more faster then intel the news AMD can beat a core i7 950 ATI is very good vidoe cards to
i'm sorry but no overall AMD is under INTEL. For games the only important thing is the graphic card. so better to have an intel than an AMD for the CPU
Danyman18, where did you here that? That is so not true. Windows Vista is a resource hog in comparison to XP Pro. DX10? There isn't hardly any diff between it and DX 9c.
i like ur setup but i would have gone with ddr3 ram instead of ddr2 and would have lowered my cpu to a phenom x3 720 to compensate for that. also I hate the antec 900, im getting a storm scout.
Thanks! I've had this motherboard for a year now and at the time when I bough it DDR3 memory modules and DDR3 motherboards where very expensive. I would never buy a slower cpu if I can afford a faster one, in the long term you gain more from a faster cpu the you do from a slower one since you'll need to do more upgrades which in the end cost more then the faster cpu.
ya maybe way in the end.. but the 720 for me at least will serve probably 4-5 yrs before I upgrade. I don't do too many cpu intensive things. maybe encode a dvd here, an adobe after effects project there, but not worth the extra money. i mainly use my pc for gaming and the internet.
hey u know what i think im gonna get the 955. just looked it up and thought you only live once right? besides i look forward to watching a bluray disc while listening to itunes, doing my homework, surfing the web, watching youtube, editing video, and gaming at the same time.
I have a Radeon HD 5450 512mb ddr3.

Edit your Radeon´s Bios with RBE and sett the Catalyst Limit to 1100/1350.
Then use MSI Afterburner to apply higher Voltage. 1.29 for 1000 is normal for the first revision of the HD5870.
Try it

@McClover Advertising, and the denial that people who payed $500 for a processor that AMD has that's the same or better for $150
xenomorph856 1 year ago
@xenomorph856 Ehh i agree but then at the same time disagree, I had a couple Intel chips before and idk. They just don't to be pushing out the right power i should be getting with the price. You seem to be just paying for the brand and now what your getting. Know what i mean

I have the Q6600 B3 @ 3.5GHz
& 870 @ 800/1000
& 4Gigs of OCZ DDR2 800 @ 973MHz
on P35-DQ6
My Score is a little higher than 16000 on default settings & resolution.
legendray2008 2 years ago
What are your thoughts of the 5770? The 5770 is DX11 ready.
TimeWePretend 2 years ago
HD 5770 is like HD 4870 except that it supports DX 11.
utltrarama 2 years ago
@utltrarama it is slightly worse then the 4870, perhaps comparable to a 4850. they had to do this as it costs the same and incorporates dx 11 so they had to worsen it slightly to make up for the pricing.

In my 3dmark06 this test is mutch shorter. why?
jancsiij 2 years ago
This is not the test mode it's the demo mode.

HD 4670 has 320 stream but better stuff than the HD 5750

I got 16955
with my
955 @ 3,5ghz (with AC cooler)
5770 @ 960/1300mhz
4gb ddr2 667mhz
5770 and 4870 preformance seem quite similar :) with the 5770 OC at least!
albinfiskare 2 years ago
I have the exakt system, (chassi and PSu etc may differ) but I only got 15800. Is it better with lower ram, My CPU is still not OC is that the main difference and the reason to why I get lower Marks? Or have you OC the 5770 aswell?
kkrizzz 2 years ago
Read!
"955 @ 3,5ghz (with AC cooler)
5770 @ 960/1300mhz"
the stock speeds of 5770 is 850/1200mhz
With everyting on stock I got 15663 points
The brand of the 5770 is Gigabyte
albinfiskare 2 years ago
Oh Right. For the OC of the 5770 should one have some sort of extra cooling?
kkrizzz 2 years ago
No, the reference cooling is enought, At least for my overclocking.
Its about 80 C at load, which is ok.
albinfiskare 2 years ago
Actually, 80C can be extremely detrimental to your CPU. CPU should generally be kept below 50 C.
InternetOccultist 2 years ago
Yes, but if you read the posts properl, you'll see that it was the Gpu that was in question....
albinfiskare 2 years ago
A CPU can run without problems even at 65 C. It's better to keep it unde 60 though

I am getting a pc with 1TB hard drive AMD Phenom x4 processor, and integrated Radeon HD Graphics, how good could that run on a benchmark like this?
anceintsz 2 years ago
It depends on what model the integrated graphics is. Often integrated graphics cards use shared memory, that means that it's using parts of your 8GB.

Single 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
Single 1GB ATI® GDDR3 Mobility™ Radeon™ HD 4870
which one is good...plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help me
khanshady 2 years ago
Well they are pretty much equal these cards, I looked at some reviews and ATi Mobility HD 4870 got higher score in 3dmark 05 and 3dmark 06. But hey I'll send you the links to the reviews so you can decide for your self. =)
utltrarama 2 years ago
Id say what ever platform you are running. If you have an AMD platform get the ATi 4870 and if its Intel you might be better off Nvidia. Otherwise, they are pretty equal as ultrarama said.
LauxHawk 2 years ago
If you are asking what window version I'm running this on ?, it's on Windows XP x64 edition. But now I'm on Windows 7 64bit and the frames per second is almost at no difference compared to Windows XP x64 edition.
utltrarama 2 years ago
That's strange, but then again this is a video that you are rendering and not gameplay (which is more CPU/GPU intensive). But I saw a few benchmark statistics and games like Crysis, Farcy, etc perform at a much higher framerate on Windows Vista and Windows 7, while XP seemed to languish. I guess the operating system makes more usage of the components of the PC.

stop adding music to shit.. its so lame

I think it flows pretty well personally.
InternetOccultist 2 years ago 2
The music in the video is part of the 3dMark06.
utltrarama 2 years ago
Yeah gpu demos like this uses much more resources then games does. I use Windows 7 now and the performance in Crysis is the same as in XP, I think the performance is excellent in Windows 7.

zxzrp0 2 years ago
Hey I'm thinking of getting this system also. Same processor but with the Radeon HD 5770. What kind of power supply and memory do you think ill need? same as you?
Does that Gigabyte GA-MA770 mobo you have support PCIe cards? Do all Gigabyte bords suport AMG and PCI? when did this happen?
Thanks for any response in advance.
zxzrp0 2 years ago
you need minimun of 500w and 42a. and i recomend to also have a 6 pin pci-e connector

i have a 965, clocked it on 3,8 and it was flawless. i clocked it up to 4GHz to fulfill a long time want of mine :) and now i have it back @ 3,4. we don't really need those OC speeds yet actually.
sapphires are great btw, got a hd4890 2gb and it always works great and cool.

Okay people i need some suggestions really quick:
I am going to be starting my first build some time this year, i selected pretty much everything already....but my last issue is the video-card.
Should i go with one sapphire radeon hd 4870 1gb (or two cards for crossfire)? Or the radeon hd 4890 1b (or two cards for crossfire)?
I am trying to get the best performance and power......soooo any suggestions?
Midyan91 2 years ago
radeon 5870 is the best gpu out right now
but personally, i would wait for the 2gb version, or the x2
apbrit2009 2 years ago 3
i would prefer hd5870 if you play at 24"
i lower get the hd5850!
everything else is waste
btw the hd5850 has the best power ofr that price!
hong263 2 years ago 3
Go for ATi HD 5870 1GB or the 2GB version. You'll get the best performance out there in a single card and one other great thing is that it supports DX11 on Windows 7.
utltrarama 2 years ago
Okay thanks!

just let u know i hop u know what u talking about AMD and ATi AMD is more faster then intel the news AMD can beat a core i7 950 ATI is very good vidoe cards to
67CopperHead 2 years ago
i'm sorry but no overall AMD is under INTEL. For games the only important thing is the graphic card. so better to have an intel than an AMD for the CPU

Get windows Vista.. couse XP cant put ur procesor on its full capacity...
Danyman18 2 years ago
Danyman18, where did you here that? That is so not true. Windows Vista is a resource hog in comparison to XP Pro. DX10? There isn't hardly any diff between it and DX 9c.

agreed

I study compueters ( hardware and software) I know what i am talking about.. and belive me.. there is a huge difference between Dx9c and dx10

derbigpr500 2 years ago
i like ur setup but i would have gone with ddr3 ram instead of ddr2 and would have lowered my cpu to a phenom x3 720 to compensate for that. also I hate the antec 900, im getting a storm scout.
theyAREnoONE 2 years ago
His motherboard doesn't support DDR3 silly.
firestormcomputers 2 years ago
yes i know that, but the extra 80 bucks he would save would be enough to upgrade to ddr3 memory and a ddr3 compatible mobo
theyAREnoONE 2 years ago
Thanks! I've had this motherboard for a year now and at the time when I bough it DDR3 memory modules and DDR3 motherboards where very expensive. I would never buy a slower cpu if I can afford a faster one, in the long term you gain more from a faster cpu the you do from a slower one since you'll need to do more upgrades which in the end cost more then the faster cpu.
utltrarama 2 years ago
ya maybe way in the end.. but the 720 for me at least will serve probably 4-5 yrs before I upgrade. I don't do too many cpu intensive things. maybe encode a dvd here, an adobe after effects project there, but not worth the extra money. i mainly use my pc for gaming and the internet.
theyAREnoONE 2 years ago
Ok, that's a good attitude you have. I use my pc for gaming, video editing, rendering the videos to HD 720p, some 3d applications and internet.
utltrarama 2 years ago
hey u know what i think im gonna get the 955. just looked it up and thought you only live once right? besides i look forward to watching a bluray disc while listening to itunes, doing my homework, surfing the web, watching youtube, editing video, and gaming at the same time.
