Japan is on the edge of both major geological plates and strong to very strong earthquakes are common in Japan. Japan uses advance technology for buildings to withstand strong to very strong earthquakes as well as conduct earthquake drills just as common as fire drills. that could be the reasons people in Japan do not make a big deal out of an earthquake.

I'd rather say ppl in Japan don't make a big deal out of an earthquake because they don't want to think about it. A majority of the buildings in Japan today would NOT stand a major earthquake, as most of them are built 20 - 30 years ago and often built considering the hot climate. That is to say - wood. Technology - sure. But space(houses) is very expensive in Japan. A normal income-family can not afford an earthquake -safe house/apartment.

@HarCees I agree with you when it comes to many buildings in Japan built 20 to 30 years ago will not withstand a major earthquake. Now I learned about the earthquake in Chile being very strong but not many reports of buildings damaged compared to Japan with the same strength and buildings damaged. what got me surprised is that Chile have tougher building codes for buildings to withstand earthquakes than Japan.

I felt that shaking here in sagamihara around 5 or 6am, though i'm sleeping, I thought I was dreaming but when my mom asked me If i feel it too, i knew that it's real. The other quake was last August 9 09, we're eating dinner that time I feel like kinda ridiculous because I was cursing and saying "f**k, i feel dizzy!" I never knew that there's an earthquake haha! PLUS the people from the other house are crying ,, naaah! haha

there were few casualties from shizuoka, hamamatsu and injured are counted to 100 people in total as of today! but hell that was scarry we were violently thrown inside the 4 story apartment while tyring to run outside! scarrier than my experience from the 2001july 16 earthquake in the philippines.
