Every once in a while, a man is born for a particular purpose, a sole reason to exist... his destiny, if you will.

Arthur, in spite of his meagre beginnings as the son of a miner, had believed this his whole life. And when, as an adult, the other miners mocked him in the Showers for practicing his tap and mamba routines, Arthur didn't care. He knew deep down inside his own heart, that one day, for some reason he couldn't fathom, this WOULD be important.

Two miners are trapped inside a mine, they suddenly found a doorway to another dimension. But due to differences in geometry and perception, they appear as dancers and juries, to avoid driving the two men into madness.

They are allowed to join them in their dimension if they pass the test. And the test is that they have to be awesome in dancing (dancing is much more important than food in their dimension).

Arthur passed the test.

@chevyvictor The men are miners involved in a pit collapse. The girls are angels - escorting the fat bloke to heaven. The little guy was rescued.

@chevyvictor In a nutshell: The miners were dying. When they opened the ceiling (or floor) the song said "Welcome to Paradise!"

They emphasize on the canary both in the beginning and the end to show what they were dying from, since back then miners used birds to detect low levels of oxygen.

The surviving miner returned to black and white because he was rescued, but the big guy decided to stay where he was at (heaven) because it was already too late for him and that he died happily.

Also, the dancers can be viewed as their angels, and the surviving miner was on the verge of joining them too but he decided to hold back and keep living, which is why he didn't dance with his angel partner.

I'm in the U.S, and the Avalanches aren't well known here. I know that their music is sample music tracks, of which I think is brilliant. From the video, I recognized that all the choreography I've seen before from somewhere. At 2:30 is Travolta and Olivia in "Hand Jive" from "Grease"; At 2:50 is the studio spin from "Saturday Night Fever". I haven't figured out the others, but I'm sure that this video was made with all sample choreography from other sources, and I think Its a brilliant twist.

the guy, arthur died in the mines, and the younger one didnt; this is just a metaphorical exploit of life and death, and getting on with life, and experiencing something new. The combined themes make for a great video- the blonde dancer is Arthurs guardian angel, shown through his relationship with her, and the shining light towards the anti climax in the video, where he is shown with her, having being excepted into the gates if heaven.

Wow... This was really huge tune for me ten years ago. I've played it a lot while working as a dj on the radio and in clubs, those years. Also, missing this kind of tune nowdays, everything is to electrosounding today.
