jose, and be honest, is a lousy dunker. He never dunks in the NBA, maybe in Euro league once or twice, but he doesnt have the skill to do it in the nba.
Well I would not say that he lacks the skill to do it, and of course he doesn't do it in the NBA, He's just made 3 on his whole career in the NBA, and 2 were on the same week, the only thing I don't know is why he doesn't do it a lot more, I did several researches in the ACB (where dunks is a stat of the game, on every stat boxscore u can see dunks by players), and he did 30 more or less in ACB career and some of them were alleyoops
And furthermore i've seen basketball videos in spanish TV (I'm a Spaniard, just 4 your information), and is impresive because is sayed that his vertical is higher than Victor Claver's, Alex Mumbrú's, Sergi Vidal's(first dunker of this video), Saul Blanco's, Rudy Fernandez's......, so i'd not say that he has not the skill, i'd say that i honestly don't understand why he doesn't do it more, that's almost all, BTW you ought search on youtube the name Sergio LLULL, who is one highfliying spain PG
: ) i like the way he does the layups, what u say is true, alone in FBreaks, or Open alleyoops he can but on traffic i've never seen it, i'm sorry if I defend him a lot haha, I live on the city where he started playing PRO, and he made a big impression on me that's all, and he is my countryman, and such a nice guy, but let him play the way he knows hugs, and I agree u in all, : )
@carlosserraalco I honestly believe he does not do it in order not to waste energy, because I had the opportunity to watch all of his home games for two years in Alicante at the start of his career and I saw him performing many dunks, even some alley oops. He stopped doing it when he started playing for Tau Vitoria, making layups instead. Maybe some coach advised him not to waste energy, I don't know, but he can definitely get very high.
@yacansa I'm jealous that U have been able to follow his first steps in the ACB ;) what U say is exactly the same I've heard several times, this energy saving U know, when he became a world champion, some videos were created for each spanish player, and Calderon's video explained that in every team he had played in Spain he was the player with the biggest vertical, I'd just liked that he had more gatorades in the NBA so that we could see even alleys :P thnx 4 commenting
The first dunk was done by Sergi Vidal, who is another spaniard, but he's a very good dunker, calderon is not that good dunking, but he used tu dunk a lot in the ACB, I don't know why he refuses to do it in the NBA, hugs
the first dunker in the video is Sergi Vidal, who was assisted by Calderon, but the second dunk of the video is Calderon, watch the whole video, and read the description of it
well dude the thing is that he did one handed alleyoops in ACB at least i remember one when he played on Fuenlabrada, I don't know if this is true but i've also heart that he is the one with best vertical in spanish national team( the silver medallist), over Rudy and Mumbru, whitch is too much
well too many people think the same as you but the nets are the same than lega's, bundesliga's and nba ones, 10 ft, what every professional basketball leagues are suposed to have
are the nets lower in euro league??? But anyways I thought the first dude was calderon and I was like "WTF since when did he have that kind of hops!!"
hahaha you're totally right, the first one is one good dunker in spain, he used to play for spain's national team, before he had an injury, he's style dunking reminds me too much carlos delfinos's dunking style, also great shooter, but better dunker that calderon(he participated in slam dunk contest of spanish ACB, i'm talking about sergi, not c8)
totally agree but harder if 6 feet 3 inches, i'm spanish so i've watched him a lot of times nd he had games with two dunks, and few of those dunks, seemed to be facial, if he does not throws it down whe he has a fastbreack in the raptors is because he doesn't wants to do it, he has one of the best verticals in europe
This is not Jose Calderon, he is Sergi Vidal,he plays in Tau Vitoria (Spain) and he was a teammate of Jose Calderon, who also played in Tau Vitoria before he came to the NBA
en realidad yo creo que se la podria machakar en la kara incluso a alguien pero es mas de bandeja, en la acb le vi clavarsela a un tio en su cara pero bueno el caso sq le gusta mas la bandeja, que tambien las hace wapas
yes i know they look lower but officialy they are 10 feet as nba's but 3pt line is shorter, that's one of the reasons could make the nets look slower, court dimenssions are different to nba's but as i say every professional basket ball league supose to have 10 ft nets, it's a standard, anyway i've seen him dunking in warm ups on nba games and dunks so simillar
he dose not need to, he makes great plays and can score easily, i remember allen iverson answered to someone who said why dont you dunk more, he replied, hey im no VC, if i could do tricks like that i would, but why do that when i could do my lay ups as good as anyone.
well racism does not exist for me, as calderon i'm white but i don't mind it, the racial differences does not exist for me cause we're humans and we're the same, you could find lot of good blackpeople, also oriental people and whity people, the differences are made by every one person in the world, but on treir minds not in the color, for example does chris bosh minds that the assist comes from calderon cause he's white, no he doesn't mind so stop talking about racism please
I don't understand why Calderon doesn't dunk in the NBA, he would be much more effective if he can penerate and finish off strong instead of having a soft lay in, I really don't care because he's putting up amazing numbers anyways.
any player in the league can dunk...it probably is the easiest thing to do...I could dunk when I was younger and played ball...you just need the height...vertical comes with practice...Jose is the best point guard in the East (Jan 2008) since he became a starter...if there was a decent backup..Raps would have very likely won at least 5 more games...bring Roko and trade TJ...
i think the same as u on what u say that he is the best eatern PG of the month, anyway one spanish basketball journalist said that in the NBA more than a 96% of the ballers could really dunk, and more than an 83% could it too on ACB, so what u say it's true
k no ostia, el triple y el libre si son mas cortos pero la canasta esta a 3,05 en todas las ligas de baloncesto profesional del mundo, por mucho k os joda(just say that the rims are at the same hight in all pro basket leagues in all world)
"a ver tio inteligente" no se si has jugado al basket en tu vida xo yo llevo 6 años jugando y se muxo mas de lo q t puedas imaginar, la altura de las canastas es 10 pies que dependiendo de la conversion puede variar un par de cm y el triple nba no son 7 m son 7.24 m, x cierto flipao no hables sin informarte, k estoy hasta los webos de soplapollas
he did 4 or 5 dunks on his last season in the ACB witch is the spanish league and i don't know why he does not slams it in the NBA ,well here in spain we know that he loves layups but one dunk will make us happier, look olso at garbajosa he can dunk very well but he prefers layups

Yes, of course if u have the legs but u don't use them is the same as if u don't have'em, wich is what happens to him, so u're right
carlosserraalco 2 years ago
Im sure jose has the legs to dunk, he just doesnt, because hes a lousy dunker. He cant do it in traffic, hed probably lose it.
for now, lets just let him drive and lay it up nicely.

A ver, tío inteligente, las canastas en la NBA están a 3,10, y aquí a 3,05. No vayas de entendido cuando no sabes del tema.
