  • good song barney well done . should of sang a lot more tho

  • Remember seeing these guys a couple of times in concert when I was a lad and this song has always struck a chord with me. Folk at its best!

  • saw barney sing this last night in vicar street, hes still got it!

  • Heard that song the first time at a concert of the old boys ... I was nearly melting *smile* like I´m always beginn to melt when Barney starts to sing.

  • Excellent. Saw them do it live over 25 yrs ago.

  • english folksong

  • the dubliners were partly about preserving all types of folk songs. They also sang alot of scottish folk songs. Alot!

  • @neilhosey They sang all sorts - everyone seems to think that every song the Dubliners sang is Irish, that isn't the case. Many, infact, a hell of a lot of them are either Scottish or English in origin.

  • As a codhead(grimbarian) born and bred i feel clarity of the debate is needed. During the herring run boats from all over the country would follow the shoals along the east coast to take advantage of this seasonal bounty. The scots herring lassies would salt and pack into barrels the catch at ports such as Grimsby,Scarborough and Lowestoft Whilst fishing for the herring for a short period of time, time in port was considered as time wasted. so many sacrifices to deadly cost for our fish

  • This song is about Scotland, North Sea. It's a very nice song. Barney is a great fisher man.

  • Its about England if anything

  • though its better when song in a Grimbarian twang

  • There are just a few clues in the song that 'hint' at which country it is lol

  • Fantastic song that has nothing to do with Scotland, North East coast of England, hence Grimsby and Scarborough.

  • @jeroendevries It's quite obviously English, Jesus Christ listen to the name of the ports in the song. Grimsby, for example, was a major fishing port in the later 19th and early 20th century.

  • @djsmurfie obviously it is an english folk song but like all great songs there is something universal in the song it could be set in any fishing port

  • @bouse23 I hardly think so.

  • Super song. Thanks from the Faroe Islands

  • Cheers from Newfoundland......Great fishing song!

  • GOD BLESS FROM NEWFOUNDLAND.
