I went down to the keys with my sage vxp 10 weight.... lets say i was a bit underclassed.... I did manage to land 5 tarpon in the 4-5 foot length margin but was nearly spooled by a 6-7 footer... i found the 10 was a blast for permit though... felt perfect

what weight rod are you using and how much bacing is on the reel?

12 weight SAGE RPLX rod, 250 yds backing 30 lb micron on a Tibor Billy Pate Tarpon reel, 20 lb. class tippet, 80 lb. shock tippet.
