I met Hanshi when I was a kid. He was my original Sensei's teacher and came to Gary, Indiana for demo. I was used for demonstration purposes. this was many, many years ago.

I studied for 18 months under Master Yamashita in Grand Rapids, in 1972 before he sold his school there, and moved to Cali to train Master Norris and the other Masters getting involved in movies and TV out there. Absolutely the most fascinating man I've ever known. He would be over 70 now, I imagine, and is still the Grand Master of Shorin Ryu! Long life, Master Yamashita! I've carried your training through my 35 year career as a police officer. Came in very handy many times!
@rexxcarz master yamashita be 68 this year. we see him twice a year at the seminars in milwaukee at sensei schroeder's dojo. you wouldn't think he's anywhere close to 60 with the way he moves or how he looks.
@rexxcarz Yes he is 67 now and believe me he's better than ever ..and faster !!! I go to his seminars and he's still better than the younger high ranks. A true inspiration!
I studied Shorin in one of Sensei Yamashita's dojos. Most amazing thing I saw:
He was in front of our school's area, as we had sponsored him in. As he got ready for the blind-folded watermelon slicing, one of the senior instructors had a cucumber with both ends sliced off. He randomly tossed it in the air. As it wobbled, he cut of ONE PICKLE SLICE from the end, it was caught by the instructor, tossed back up and he sliced in directly down the middle. Like Magic!
I bet you get hurt alot practicing that stuff. Imagine how bad it must hurt when you swing them between you legs and it connects with your gonads? lol! OUCH!!!!
I have watched Tadashi Yamashita for decades. His weapons demos are some of the finest, especially his blind swordmanship. He is into Motorcyle riding stunts that are almost as awesome to watch as his Martial Arts demos. He is a very entertaining actor and a fascinating example of a true grand master of Okinawan style fighting. I hold DEEP DEEP RESPECT for this man. Thanks for posting this clip.
Sensei likes the heavy chucks w/ a chain. They feel clunky for me. Not for him I guess! The craziest thing I ever saw him do with chucks was when he didn't know anyone was watching. Myself and a fellow student saw him roll a nunchaku around his shoulder, bounce it off the floor and flip it back up to his shoulder with his ankle!!. Unreal.
from 2:10 on i did all those moves as a teen in the 80s

Cool to see actual fighting techniques. I am sick of freestyle. Nunchaku is and always will be a weapon. Cool video.
