I'm from Holland. But no, you can't learn flamenco guitar solely from books and dvd's. There are SO many bad habits you can pick up and if you have them, they're difficult to overcome.
A good teacher will give you advice not only on technique, but also how you should sound :)Books and dvd's sure help though! :D
i am 18 y old, i live in spain, i left the school when i was 12 to play the guitar.. theres no way, truly no way to learn flamenco from books and dvds... theres so many habits like sefokaya says... and so many things u wont realize how wrong ur doing them till u have a real flamenco teacher.., and thats only talking about tecnic cuz about sound and etc theres another big things u wont even realize ur doing wrong.. really find a teacher.. or u will be teaching wrong urself
Paco always. Some don't like Cositas Buenas, but it's probably my favourite album, especially the song "Antonia". Makes you happy, just like the album name suggests :D.
Chicuelo's a genius. He's original and very creative, but it always sounds flamenco.
I'm currently working on his "En mi solea"
It's about time he made a new album though. He's composed enough for other people already :(
We really have the same taste. I to like the cositas buenas. The reason why I don't put paco on one is because 1)I consider Paco out of category, he was and still is extraordinay, we flamencos have to "worship" where he has taken flamenco. Without paco, no Chicuelo.
2) Just as yourself, I'm busy on Chicuelo's tangos from his encuentro DVD. No doubt you love that piece to. I won't stop untill I now every piece on the dvd by heart. It's exactly my taste of flamenco. All respects for gerardo, vicente, some paco compositions, but they are a bit to far from Flamenco. Not that Chiculeo is traditional, but you get my point, JW

Heah that tangos is divine and I understand exactly what you mean.
I'm currently working on his solea from the encuentro dvd and then I'll do the tangos too.
Hey you should upload some video's of what you've learned :)

Awesome man! One of the best tremolo's ever.
You must also know the tremolo from the tarantas in the encuentro dvd? That's the first thing I learned from the book ;)
