  • I'm flying from The Netherlands to Phoenix in 5 weeks and I'm driving to Mesa (waylon's grave), Roswell, Clovis and Lubbock. Besides the BH center, his grave and the statue, is there anything else to do in Lubbock concerning Buddy? Any bad areas I have to avoid?

  • All Maria cares about is fucking money that's her real love.

  • Maria is just like Yoko FUCKING Ono.Both women never loved there husbands, its funny but both Buddy and John were both going leave there wife's before they died.

  • Buddy's records meant a lot to people when he was alive and still mean a lot to people just discovering him now. The music was perfect: the true test of classic music (classical rock'n'roll?). Anyway, you know what I am trying to say. Peace.

  • @missionrd100 , Yes , I feel you ! Thanks for taking the time !

  • Well he did started ROCK N ROLL. I wouldnt take it that far.

  • @mrfantasticE , Holly was definitely one of the pioneer's and his innovations is what sets him apart from the others back then. Holly started real rock and roll, in my opinion. Thanks for the comment !

  • the town didn't care that he had all these hit records in 1957 58 why should she let them use the name? they didn't care til he was dead...

  • @maddhadder27 SHE didn't care for 16 years after he was gone, until McCartney bought the song catalogue when she got some reflected glory and never stopped since - Maria self-claimer ain't even close !

  • @maddhadder27 What do you mean (the town didn't care?)Surely Buddy had/has his fans back home or are you meaning the town as in the town hall?

  • @maddhadder27 , that's simply not true.

  • great video, I'm 17 and i believe buddy holly is the greatest, most inspirational artist in the world. I've never been able to go to his memorial even though i have passed through town but since you live in Lubbock please pay my respects to him.

    -Thank you

    long live Rock and Roll

  • I was wondering why you didn't visit the grave site? I would have gone there first and then looked at someones tribute to Buddy! Still cool though :-) Buddy wrote the beginnings to a classic we all know by The Beatles albeit unintentionally I'm sure. A page with his writing in blue ball point. It reads; "I saw her standing there..". My Dad had tickets to see him but passed after the crash. I've been to where they were going to play. Little place! Rock and Roll barnstorming! In and out!

  • @buddyhoot, Sorry to reply so late...I did visit Buddy's grave at that time but haven't ever posted it. Perhaps I will now. Thanks !

  • what's maria's problem respect buddys memory stop being greddy maria rip buddy, ritchie, bopper

  • Awesome video and tribute to Buddy! I wish to visit Lubbock one day to see where he lived and all that.

  • Brian, thanks for the video! I grew up in Lubbock. I'm a few years younger than Buddy, graduating from Monterey High in 1961.

  • Hi, a lovely video, if it wasn't for Buddy I wouldn't have picked up the strat, he influenced me in so many ways. Thanks Buddy. His name and memory will always live on in the minds of us guitarists. One day i hope to be able to visit Lubbock, until then, i make it a part of every day to stand on the spot where Buddy visited Wolverhampton - England, he walked into a fish and chip shop opposite the Gaumont theatre to try some of the food on sale. Its a strange but feeling to stand there.

  • Buddy had the same effect on me. I bought a Strat when all my mates were buying motorcycles.

In fact, that Strat was more expensive than a motorcycle but I had to do it.

His music has been with me ever since I first heard it. It never, ever died.

  • weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • (Cont from previous comment) therefore i cannot agree with the abuse directed at Maria Elena, She was the love of his life, albeit short. I don't think Buddy himself would be impressed by the comments. his music speaks for itself. He is and always will be a legend no matter how many places are named after him. With the greatest respect to all Buddy fans and the great man himself. RIP Buddy. xxx

  • It is wonderful to see you honouring Buddy Holly in this way it is a lovely monument to his memory. There is no way that Buddy would ever be forgotten as he had such a massive impact on music in such a short time and there are so many recordings of his music available. . . . .

  • Hi All.....My Dad was also a avid Buddy Holly fan....Dad told me a story back in 2000 about when he was a young man living in Slaton Texas (12-15 miles from Lubbock) . Dad was at the local soda shop Drive In and Buddy showed up and played a bit for all that were there and drank a beer with my Dad.

Thanks for the memories Dad....I love youu and miss you so much.

  • Hi, i'm from England and learned to fly in Lubbock in '92, We used to fly over to Slaton to practice take offs and landings ! it was so wonderful to be in Lubbock specially as i was from Liverpool , Buddy was such an inspiration to the Beatles, I always feel the two cities should be twinned , sorry to hear about your dad, mine passed last christmas, It's difficult isnt it

  • She's f-ing greedy!!!!!! I think Buddy would be disappointed at her greediness..... thanks for sharing this....

  • i wish i could go there and visit Buddy's monument and pay tribute...

so sad he died with Ritchie and big bopper at an early age...

  • Youd think that M. E. H. would do more to keep his name alive, then do her best to supress it. I suspect that shes dispissed even more then Elvis fans dispiss prissila . Yeah my spelling sucks. to tired to fix it.

  • The all time greatest. I have no words to sum up how i feel about Buddy Holly. I grew up listening to Buddys songs as he was my dads hero. My dad died 12 years ago and the music now just makes me weep every time. Rip Buddy. Rip Dad love you and miss you every day.

  • 2/3/59 The Day The Music Died.

    50 Years Ago Today

    RIP Buddy Holly.

    Lost, But Never Forgoten!

  • Very well done!

  • Thanks a lot for posting this, Brian! Buddy is certainly one of the most influential rockers of all time. I don't know why Maria Elena has to hold Buddy's name for ransom from the city of Lubbock--she's already wealthy. It's just not fair that she could be married to Buddy for six months and have more control over his name than Buddy's family.

  • whats next buddy statue goes down?! maria needs to check herself!!!

  • she got married and had kids and shouldnt have rights to his name anyways~!

  • i said exactly the same thing!

  • wow what a bitch, she was the first courtney love or whatever cobain's wife's name is. Won't allow the town to use the name.

  • wdsdyin, great analogy ! lol !

  • oh yea, she ( Maria) seems to be just a money grubbing old hag. I remember hearing Lubbock was going to put up a road sign and naming a rd for Buddy, but she wouldn't allow it.

  • Maria needs to get over her self, because Buddy was Lubbocks first. It doesn't matter if that was her husband, she is taking away what he had worked for, and the honor that has become him and his memory now...Awsome video btw. R.I.P Buddy.

  • Thanks for the comments !

  • Maria Elana needs to just go away. Great video. I go by there everyday after work. The city has already taken down "Buddy Holly Plaza" from the water fountain. I knew I should've taken a picture of that!

  • Jay, Thanks for the good comments because I totally agree with you.

Maria has really suppressed the efforts of many to properly honor Buddy Holly.

    Thanks !

  • Isn't it also true that when the city builds the "visitor center", that they're taking the walk of fame with them? Which will mean that Buddys statue comes down.

  • She cant supress me! I have his signature tattooed on my neck, he is a legend! I really want to come to Lubbock one day to truly pay my respects. Lets hope Maria hasn't taken away everything that we love him for by then.

  • I have been to times in Lubbock and met there the family from Buddy my big Idol.Very kind people. Unfortunaly we couldn´t meet us last year in September Brian, but I hope next year when I come over again. Thanks for the video, great

  • Heureka, Thanks for the comment friend !

Your videos are great too !

  • Thank you for posting this! Great job and I am so glad that you are honoring his life and music!

  • Great video man ! I love the music you chose ! You're right, Buddy doesnt get the real credit he deserves. What is Maria's deal ? Why is she being sucha beotch ?

  • Bill Haley may have been at the forefront but It was Buddy Holly that changed the way music was shifting.

Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll." His works and innovations were copied by his contemporaries and later musicians, notably The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and exerted a profound influence on popular music. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Holly #13 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

  • Yes for sure...Nobody is denying Holly's influence on the 60's bands.Bill and Buddy are like chalk and cheese but both had a very significant influence in changing the course of music in the fifties.

  • I have to agree...Bill opened the gates.

  • Buddy Holly didn't start until several years after Bill Haley. Sorry, but those are the facts. He didn't start it. I'll agree he was ahead of his time and pushed rock and roll songwriting to a new level, but sorry -- he didn't start rock and roll any more than the Beatles did (and there are those who claim they started it).
