@xxquiker no that's 261 knots but that's not accurate what you see there is IAS (indicated air speed) as the plane climb it gets less and less because the air is very thin at 39,000 feet indicated air speed is used for sea level, if you notice on the bottom of the screen where it says ( 84.0 ) that's the planes mach speed witch is the speed used a t that altitude so the plane is going over 550MPH
I flew on Kenya Airways from Lusaka Zambia to Nairobi in 1982. I was just a child then and the pilots let myself and my bro come into the cockpit to see what goes on. We were flying over Mt. Kilimanjaro when we had to return to our seats because they were preparing for landing. They were so kind...the entire crew were so kind. I guess nowadays with all the security issues, no one gets into the cockpit. Would love to fly KA again from Canada back to Kenya...miss Kenya alot!!
@armbender777 Same goes for this one. As soon as the DVD is released that information is tucked away in the files and the work begins for the next cockpit DVD. Best advice is to watch the actual DVD and wait for the credits, the name of the composer is listed there. Happy to hear you like it.
I am proud of the Kenya airways crew and equipment. WE JUST NEED TO SPRUCE UP nbo aka Jomo kenyatta int airport! Bole at Addis is a far much modern than JKIA and that's a challenge.
Kenya should learn from Ethiopia. I recently flew on their 777 ET-ANN and ET-ANO from Dulles to Addis and Back and I loved the experience!
Having personally flown on this plane, and with some of the crew, I can only say a big kudos to you all. Great service and an amazing flight. Good to know we have our own skillfull homegrown people in command as well.
@jorgen1990 its a different type of airspeed i for get what its called but they have that type of airpseed shown for pilots because its easier for pilots to set the speed of the plane to one speed that way. Im not an expert but i think thats why
@jorgen1990 the PFD displays indicated airspeed which does not account for changes air density. At sea level it is the same as the true airspeed, but as the altitude increases and air becomes thinner, indicated airspeed becomes lower in respect to true airspeed. Here the plane is at 39,000 feet, at this altitude there is a big spread between the true and indicated airspeeds
I'm a little bit racist.. coming from my south african background it's hard not to be. But people must realize that there's no difference whether your pilot is black or white; regardless they are still highly trained professionals especially if they're flying the apex of commercial aviation - a 777 in a major airline.
A few years back I asked my son to order a "Tusker Baridi" as a test of his Kiswahili language (OK I Thought I would get one extra). The lady gave him a ticking off saying he must be 21 before he orders a beer and even then he must be sensible about it! Those words still are in his ears today. He does not have any interest in alcohol Thank you Kenya Airways.
YOU really are pride and joy! As an African first, and aspiring pilot second; I find having black pilots flying great aircrafts such as the 777, a reason to keep fighting to make my dream come true and maybe one day be on one of these awesome videos. Happy landings fellows!
I rather fly Kenya Airways any day 24/7 over American Airlines, better service, safer, faster, not treated like an terrorist by the crew, newer fleet, cleaner aircraft.
@dewey911 wrong! There are so many planes and pilots in kenya, just go to Wilson Airport and see how busy it is! Almost every 45 seconds a plane is landing or taking off, and these are from 172's all the way to Dashes and Fokkers and Citations etc. Just like anywhere in the world you have to earn your seat on the larger mordern equipment, there is no shortcut. African Aviation is par with the rest of the world. See Ethiopian, SAA or KQ and you will see a glimpse of what is happening!
@dondycluck . maybe by American standards they are too young for 777, but in kenya, the cockppit politics aren't as bad as they are in other airlines. I have know cases in the US where pilots with thousands of hours and possesion of types and ratings etc and still position/pay and advancenment opportunities are limited. see the ny times article "Pilots’ Lives Defy Glamorous Stereotype".In Africa pilots are compensated very well! And in turn they quickly build up the hours/skills needed to go up
@cmuasya maybe it was something to do with the true and magnetic directions. maybe that display is not entirely accurate but if its based on co-ordiantes i would of thougt it woudl be very precise. perhaps there is more to it than what is displayed on that screen
@210482fmj nope just a slight error from the first officer, happens quite often to mess this up when you have a needle showing the wind direction relative to the aircraft, and a magnetic direction relative to the magnetic north.
@cmuasya he meant from a southern westerly direction a tiny mistake he made. Confused probably by the arrow showing the wind direction relative to the aircraft.
@raphy1123 I am confused. If he is reading it and following the needle point to the North West at 254 Degrees, wouldn't that mean it was coming from the south east? Good observation by the way, thanks.
@ottoramsaig wind direction is given from where the wind is blowing.
The needle is showing the direction the wind is going(the heading) which is 254°-180°= 74°. the plane is flying on heading of 138°, so the wind is coming from the right at an angle of 116°(4 o'clock position) and is blowing away to the left at an angle of 64°(10 o'clock position) to the aircraft's trajectory. So the wind is coming from the S-W and is going to the N-E and the plane is flying to the S-E. It's as simple as that :D
I actually build the 777. Right now we build the 300-ER( extended range) From my perspective as a mechanic and a pilot its good to see what we build serving my fellow kenyans.
@kenyan114 why are you shocked? KQ was the first country in the world to operate the 777-200 or 737-800 i forget which. KQ has a strong relationship with Boeing and ...
