He shoulda been playing top level still. But a great carear in every aspect. Never forgot his free kick against greek to take us to the tournment, while the players in the national team now might struggle if it was a penalty to scrore to get us through he popped a 20+ yard free kick WEN IT MATTERED. I have always rated Beck's and he deserves this award.
But u must remember it's not all about what he does as a sportsmen but what he does off the pitch.
He has helped charities collect thousands of pounds, step up academies, helped the England World Cup bid and most of all been an inspiration.
He is a English Legend in his own right!!!

ridiculous. 35 years old and never even made a semi final for england. zillions better sportsmen and way more deserving. ryan giggs for starters has played 3 times as many games won 3 times as many trophies and been loyal modest and not as greedy as beckham. what of other sports legends who never won it? botham? hendry? daley thompson? lennox? martin offiah? stanley matthews? geoff hurst? calzaghe? redgrave? linford? gareth edwards? phil taylor? faldo?the list is long and far more distinguished

people need to realise that he has been given a lifetime achievement award within sport not a lifetime achievement award in life! And not many people have done more for sport than this man. People are acting like they have just given him a nobel peace prize.
