  • BEAUTIFUL COLORS!!!! WOW, and I like the patterns too, pretty!!!! :)

  • u must feed your koi a lot, they're GINORMOUS and very plump!

  • @reepernaruto Yes, you need to feed quite a bit to bulk them up. Have to know whether your filtration can handle the amount of feeding though.

  • nice u know ur kois

  • a wish i have kois like yours... i only have 1 kuhako and 1 sanke... and 100 fingerling i hope some of them have a good color quality..

  • My big Koi had dropsy, a by product of osmotic tension. It is said that dropsy is allways fatal. However we increased her environment's salt to .3% over 3 days and she returned to normal.

    Your fish are gorgeous.

  • Dropsy is a bacterial condition. Antibiotic jabs may help, and something must also be done to bring down the levels of bad bacteria in the pond. Most advanced cases of dropsy are fatal. The ones detected earlier have a chance though.

  • @hooinc We where getting ready to move, so we removed the koi and the comit from the pond and set them up in a temporary environment with fresh clean water. I then searched the web for why my koi looked like a swiming pinecone. The information I found said it was drospy and that adding salt to the pond should help.

  • What do salt treatments do for your koi / pond. the koi look great

  • Ali, the reasons why a salt treatment may be carried out are many. Salt can kill/reduce bacteria/protozoa. It also reduces osmotic tension and relieves stressed fish. Too complicated to detail here. It would be good if you join some koi forums and ask :-)

  • hi paul,

I wonder what salt you use, is it natriumbicarbonate? so you use 3kg salt per 1000 liter, some experienced belgian hobbyists(also danny from dannys koi cafe) use 6kg per 1000 liter, what do you think about that amount?

  • sorry for all the questions, but I haven't done a salt treatment yet, and I want to know everything before I do it :D

  • I'm not sure exactly what it is. I think it's just natural rock salt, they're easily available from koi dealers here. 6kg per litre is salting to 0.6% which I normally avoid doing unless the problem is quite major. Minor problems can be solved with a 0.3% treatment. Always remember that although salt relieves osmotic pressure, is itself a stressor.

  • Thanks, HO. That was taken over a year ago. Only 1 nisai left in my pond now :-)

  • @hooinc why? they died?

  • @hooinc i love your fish... i noticed one of your koi has a dropsy... i can see the scales it looks like spikes... i have 200 koi fingerling 50% od them died because of gill damage due to bacterial infection... huhuhuhuhu.. i did 100% water change measure the water and put a salt 1.7 oz per 10 gallon.. now my fish are happy..

  • It's nice to videotape them just after a salt treatment as this is the only time every single koi is up at the surface. They look very nice and colourful together :-)

  • are this captured in nokia N series too? its fantastic bro but one day I wish I can watch it on a high reso camcoder :-) will def be a superb shot Paul.

  • Hi IKK, yes using my Nokia N95. It's 5 megapixels, that's why it's quite sharp. You're most welcome to drop by my house any time to see them in the flesh :-) You're in KL/PJ, right? Let me know..

  • Thanks for the invitation Paul. Would love to... I m in seremban but my ex girlfriend's parents r in K.Jaya. I go there q frequent. now I m in Auckland. Btw your gin rin tancho is so round n cute... like a bolster:-)

  • Some "crowding" immediately after a 0.3% salt treatment
