  • The Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler was composed in 1901 and 1902, mostly during the summer months at Mahler's cottage at Maiernigg. Among its most distinctive features are the funereal trumpet solo that opens the work and the frequently performed Adagietto.

  • 1,2 3,4,5,6,7,8 and ultimately 9, all af them in one .Wonderful .

  • Actually my name is jos, just my hubbies site

  • Having had the honour to play his musuc. Hewas wonderful

  • mahler dedicated this for his wife Alma, it's really beautiful

  • I could listen to this over and over again!

  • This is my favorite part of this symphony which to me is so typical for Mahler, the fight between the good and the bad forces, at the end the good wins and all live in peace and unity...it's such a wonderful symphony and this Adagietto is the peace after the battle...the good won and all instruments are so serene and play in unison.

  • @BytomGirl I venture to add that the theme here is the triumph of beauty over disease and death as exemplified in the motion picture Death in Venice, where this music theme was used.

  • @Nonie46 I don;t knoow the movie but listening to few Maler's symphinys I can tell thtat this is general theme.. the victory of good, be it beauty, freedom etc. Have you listen to the entire sympjony? It's the fight between two forces who finally come together in peace and that is the true victory.

  • Who was the one person who didn't like this????? This piece is soo beautiful!!! I could listen to it on repeat ALL day!

  • breathtaking!

  • What is there to say...brilliant...always makes the hairs on the back of my neck and arms tingle...wow

  • @alfieb2204 what about the hairs on your toes? Are they excluded from the pleasure?

  • @uglywugglypuppetco - They aren't as educated as the rest of my body...and they smell... so I don't let them out as often!! :-)

  • Fantastic music made by an inspired man.

No gods, goddesses, fairies, sprites or devils were hurt during the making of this piece.

All allusions to supernatural figments of a primitive mind are completely coincidental and should not detract from your enjoyment of this art.

  • We have to be very careful, brothers and sisters. We deal with heaven, so it's our duty to fulfil God's will. This music is God, it's not created by Him, but it is Him. What is His Love, that he allows us to hear Him! This music blesses every creature with immortality, happiness and immortal happiness.
