  • sigh...all you young people with your talk of drugs missed the signifigance of that bottle of Coca-Cola, which at the time the song was written WAS the real thing -- coca, that is...

PS, public domain for music is pre-1920, last I knew...but, I'm old, and almost remember these things

  • @TheQueenie726 PD starts at 1922 (and should move up each year if Congress doesn't change the rules again.) More good info at pdinfo dott com about the subject

  • Thank god they filmed this - some of the only film of a young Louis.

  • Was this the first filmed appearance of Satchmo?

  • don't ya just hate the negative way they depict White people as dogs , clowns and hookers.

  • Unfortunate Armstrong had to do some of these things.

  • @Aggedor1959 It's not too bad, if you only listen to the music it's pretty great! x)

  • @Aggedor1959 Why unfortunate?

Do not think he was forced to do this. Roll with the times.

    Grown men do grown things.

  • @noeljdun12 You're right but as a minority it bothers me to see this from this perspective in time and modern social development, i.e. respect for self & others regardless of skin color.

  • @Aggedor1959 Maybe you should get a time machine, and go back there and tell them to stop! lol Or just change the history books to accommodate your views.

  • ...surreal...

  • wonder how much smack lou got for this racist gig

  • @edgarallanpony Louis was not a heroin user (smack). He was however known to enjoy some guage (pot). I don't like your inference that he would do a "racist gig" in exchange for the right amount of any drug. He wasn't that kind of guy, he was a class act, always.

  • Using this film in a research project about "primitivist" stereotypes in jazz.

  • "I'll make a hash and a bologna out of them...." nice!

  • Public domain cartoons sure are cheaper than coming up with original content.

  • My god.

  • I'm not high enough to like this... bone sober lol

  • @Leadman1989 You have to be high to enjoy this? man, life must suck fo ya. ;)

  • @Hickorychiclets

You enjoy this sober? man, life must suck for you... :(

and I meant high on LSD this sucks

  • 4:46 Well, You bought my wife a bottle of Coca Cola so you could play on her Vayjola! Ha! Your dog!

    Singing Head 3:06

  • @Hickorychiclets

The word was Victrola. But you probably have the meaning right.

  • @CuConnacht Thanks for the correction. I miss hear words frequently. But it makes me happy to know Vayjolah if not already used is now used fo certainly. :)

  • Only time I heard this song was when Al Broussard did a cover of it. Great find.

  • Check out Taj Mahal's album "Senor Blues" for a terrific, modern rendition of this song.

  • I actually used this in a film editing class!

  • Thanks... have you ever seen the Boop about the St. James Infirmary Blues? It is some trippy ass shiznit.

  • Wow.

  • that IS sort of odd... it probably contains lots of contextual inside jokes that would make it hilarious for somebody from 1932... i wonder just how many....

  • Thanks for this!
