  • I don't understand the term reading the defense. I don't know when u are suppose to attack the defenders first foot or jab step. I also don't understand when to crossover and when to just blow right by. So how are u suppose to controll your defender. Aren't u suppose to extend the ball and if they move with it cross? If u extend the ball u are looking to go that way

(How are u suppose to make a read so fast)

  • @HardWorkPays0ff Reading the defender is something that you learn to do the more you play the game. Reading means that you are watching to see what the defender does when you make a move like the Jab Step. This tells you what you need to do in response to that move.

  • people on my team have been telling me after the jabstep you have to go straight into the layup other wise its double dribble, is this true?

  • @VeeTellEm Totally incorrect! Unless you are doing something to move the pivot foot before the ball is out of your hand you should be fine.

  • @VeeTellEm that is totally wrong!! after you do the jab step, you have 2 options to choose from:

Option 1: you can shoot a jumpshot; OR

Option 2: you can drive to the basket and score a lay-up or a dunk.

you can always choose which options that really fits you the most. but just a reminder, this is the only 2 things that you can do after you jab.

  • i always use the jab step when i play ball...

but out of 3 of them, "The Split" jab step attack is my favorite!!!

i've tricked so many defenders using this move and one of them even got a sprained right ankle when they jumped in the air after i "sell" the pump fake!!

  • @SuperThrillerboy Sounds like you really have it working for you! Sweet!!!!

  • @ShotScience:

as i've already mentioned, "the split" is my favorite jab step move. but why do i have to use "the hammer" when go through the lane?

  • @SuperThrillerboy to stop the defence from 'handchecking' you.

  • @CP3nawlinz Good call here! Officials very rarely call the hand checking so the "Hammer" will take care of this.

  • I love how descriptive shotscience is. This is one of tha best teachings of basketball out there. I've seen a good amount of teachers and coaches nd shot science is different.

  • @Jordan5583 Thanks so much for your comment. That has been our goal from the beginning of our channel. We are pleased to hear that you like our work. Please "Spread the Word!"

  • No waste, every single Video is a great material for players and Couchs

Thanks for your time and your exelent quality.

  • @maunicomar09 Thanks for your support. We really appreciate it vey much. Please stay tuned for more.

  • is there a video on how to finish w contact?

  • @CommunistChocolate Check out the video on "Finishes at the Rim."

  • You have many moves. Could you please tell me how to defend these.

  • @TutorialsOnHow We will focus on the defensive side soon! Stay tuned and please "SPREAD THE WORD!"

  • Can you guys do a video on how to get more blocks or proper way to Contest a shot

  • @bearsrule865 we do not feel shot blocking is a good skill, because too often you are called for fouls, even when there is a question of contact. When you try to block you must leave the floor and crafty players will step under you and throw up any shot and get the foul. We will have a video on contesting the shot soon.

  • Coach can u help me with my 3 pts shoot i often very good at midrange but when am on the 3pts line trying to shoot a 3 pts shoot i felt that is very far away and i don felt as confident as a mid range shoot. i know practice will help but is there any tricks or tips on how to be more consistent with 3pts shoot?

  • @vayahoo Biggest problem from the 3 line is power. Most young players shots come up short of the basket. If this is your problem you need to learn how to use these legs. See our video MAKE 3 POINTERS!!! Get Your Legs Into It."

  • Hey coach, really love this vid. I have been doing this move for quite some time now, getting tips from kobe and mj, no less. hehe. Well, I'm not as good as them, but i find this move really effective. However, I think there are some tips here that can really improve my game. See, after I jab step, I don't fake a shot and my defender most of the time is able to recover, unless they are really slow. Also, I sometimes forget to guard the ball, there are times it gets slap from me. Thanks for this

  • MARKSMAN, please check out our video "Never Have the Ball StOLEN AGAIN." This will help in understanding why they can get their hands on the ball. And we hope that you are able to develop you Jab Step to a higher level.

  • @ShotScience Thanks coach. One more thing, how can I sell the jab step more? Is there any other tip that can make it more "sellable". Can I use my upper body? Head and shoulders. Plus, how can I make it more effective?

  • @MARKSMAN2318 Go back and review this video closely and there are several tip here that should really help you.

  • @ShotScience Yup. I realized it after I posted my comment. I figured I should swing the ball hard to sell the jab. Right? Now, I'm trying to do a drill in this. Hope it helps. Thanks again

  • @MARKSMAN2318 This move can be a real challenge for the defender because they have no idea where you are going to go or do. It is really effective once you get the details fo the move down. This move was a "Signature move" for Chase in college.

  • COach i have a problem in free throws, can you make a video on shooting a free throw

  • @bletma281 We have this in our plan for the first of the year.

  • When shooting from farther distances should your arm thrust speed increase?

  • @m3v2p NO,NO, NO!!! The speed of the shot thrust needs to reamin as constant as possible for all shots and when you need more power, the legs are the answer. Check out our video "MAKE 3 POINTERS!!! Get Your Legs Into It!! for the how and why of the legs and how important it is.

  • Great Video! The Tip-Mas also is good but make sure to have a advance tips/tricks :)

    ..

  • @fordzsayo We will consider your request and thanks for your very nice comment.

  • whats the best way for an English kid to get pick for an American college

  • @JoeDurkan14 Well, this is an interesting question! You would need to play on a high level team in your country and excel there; find a way to make yourself known to U.S. college coaches at the level you think you can play (Div.I, II, III or NAIA); possibly create a recruiting video of yourself and contact colleges where you think you would like to attend. Shot Science can produce this video through our "SearchLight Video" section if you need help. Contact us if you feel interested.

  • is there a problem with combining dribble attacks like spin move behind the back

  • @chitownbrutha13 Well, certainly you can do what ever you choose, but sometimes "More is Less!" Using the Attacks should really only require the move itself to get by the defender. Adding more to it can delay and can create control problems. Hope this helps.

  • Make a Video of "How To Draw the Foul!"

  • @Crazyjuicetoday Well, this may be a video down the line, but not right away. This can be created in several situations and it may take several videos to do it right.

  • My coach plays favoritism Badly and he doesent put me in enough and its holding me back what do I do?

  • @JUSTPERSIN Rather than let this boil over and the coach get angry with your attitude, speak to him about what he feels is holding you back from playing more. He will probably express his concerns and this should help you work on some areas that will help you get more playing time. His "favoritism" may be nothing more than playing the guys whom he feels give the team the best chance to win. Go talk to him so you know.

  • This nigga knows his shit yo.

  • @GeolinkTheCreature Thanks!!

  • what if you know, and your defender knows that you are not the best shooter ever so they give you the shot and let you pump fake as much as you like. therefore, one jab may work but they are prepared to defend that lay up. advise?

  • @splateee Well, we always suggest getting all aspects of your game up so that the defender can't exploit your weaknesses. Sounds like you need to work on your shooting so that they can't take away your lanes to the hoop.

  • @splateee A little secret here. If they respond to your "Stomp Fake" then as they recover your "explode by them" on that side and they are caught in between and you can score with the layup. There are several variations to this move.

  • When are you guys posting a video of shooting off the dribble?

  • @edmusical520 It's in our plans soon.

  • My favorite jab step move, is the cross step, because it's not a travel.

  • @JGKNOWZBEST that's awesome, but none of the other moves are travels either!

  • Funny. I've been using this for years now and I only realized it's purpose now...

  • @ethan120494 Well, that is very cool.

  • Hey Coach. One question. My house doesnt have any walls that are 10ft without something in the way. Max probably 8ft. Is it ok to put a rim 8ft high and practice on that or do you think it'll be too difficult adjusting to the 10ft rim in-game? Thanks

  • @reywarrior3 Usually you adjust pretty quickly. You have to do what you have to do to work on your game.

  • coach can you show where to always shoot and how u go to a hoop with out a charge....

  • @jobbaltazar66 The best thing to do is to review all of our videos and you will gain a lot of the information you are asking about.

  • great video coach!! Keep'em coming!

  • @AwesomeCohen We thank you so much for your very nice comment and we intend to keep them coming.

  • @AwesomeCohen We intend to do that and thanks for your support.

  • hey coach how can i develope better ball handling

  • @MrGokac The answer to this question is simple! You need to spend a lot of time on it and we suggest that you c heck out our videos on our YT channel, "Dribbling 101", all of our Attack Videos until you feel that you have a sound grasp on your handles.

  • I've missed you Coach!

  • @chikenfriedricey It's nice to be back. We had some difficulties in up-loading the last video.

  • how can u stop being nervous during a game??!?!?!?!?

  • @TheGadiel1234 I stay calm by thinking that I'm above everybody else's league so that I play with a lot of confidence

  • @antoniowright0 This is good. Check out our vide0 "WIN with your MIND!! for some really good ways to prep for your games and practices.

  • @TheGadiel1234 Usually the nervousness passes within a few minutes after beginning to play. It is very common to be nervous.

  • @ShotScience i hate tht!!!

  • I need help, im a great distance runner but im not very quick, and im not a great sprinter, can you give me specific exercises to help me out, btw awesome video

  • @vKaran12 Thanks for your very nice comment. Surprisingly, our Vertical Jump Program would be a good way to develop the explosion needed in sprinting and acceleration. Check it out on ou YT Channel page. It also would benefit your vertical jump.

  • Hey coach, can you make a video on "How to do a pull up jump shot"?

    Btw, like the video,nice work.

  • @sniperrifle9 Thanks for your comment and we appreciate it very much. We have a video planned for this topic in the near future.

  • Hay coach this was a great video hay fo u have any triple threat moves vids tht i can see thx :)

  • @Super331967 Those are some videos we have on the plan for the near future. Thanks for your comment.

  • great video!!!

  • @franz24wong thanks so much!!!

  • I have a question, how to improve conditioning or stamina for extended running. I tried out for my team and the coach said I played exceptional defencr and offense and he didn't take me on the roster. I think that even though I had no trouble in game running, he made us run 10 minutes straight and I couldn't do even 6. There was also the factor that there are 6 seniors, 4 juniors, and 2 of my fellow classmate sophomores on the team( no freshmen).

  • @leadiceman22 Well, if you want to work on a multi-prong approach you could give our Vertical Jump Program a try as it really focuses on strength development in the legs. Check it out on our YT channel page. It also will really help your vertical.

  • I have a very short team and i have to play post and we are good but always have taller checks and its hard to defend them

  • @Crazyjuicetoday It is all just hard work in the paint!!!! It becomes a lot easier when you do not allow them to catch the ball there. Front them so they cannot catch the ball in the low post and have a team mate work on helping on the lob-over because of your being in the fron of them.

  • @ShotScience Exactly coach! Our team is the shortest in the league and with these techniques I'm able to guard guys taller than me that post up.

  • If they don't move or react to your jab step does that mean that you should just blow by them?

  • @DonkeyBalls007 go for a jumpshot

  • @DonkeyBalls007 it means EXACTLY that!! Blow right by!

  • @DonkeyBalls007 If you execute a hard fake step, they will reacts, otherwise just go by them.

  • Hey coach.. I watched every cross over video you guys made... but when I do a cross over.. why does it always get stolen right then?

  • @VatTheHeLL23 it could be the result of a lot of things. We'd actually have to see it to make any really suggestions, but you might be letting the ball get too high on the cross or you might not be getting forward (North-South) motion to seal the defender. Let us know what problems you're actually having and we can try to help more.

  • Hi coach! I just noticed that these moves also work well when down the block, especially when the defending Cs and PFs are slow and don't offer much help defense .

  • @D12world1 these will work once you face up to the basket. If you noticed, there's a few shots of Chase catching the ball in the high post, facing up, and then laying the jab combo on the defender. Great comment!

  • Great job guys! This video's sick.

Why should you only jab step with your dominate foot and not the other foot?

    Keep up the good work!

  • @AznJohnyBoy Thank you so much!! Well, you can jab with either foot, but you'll find that you will likely be very awkward going to your non-dominant side. If you want to develop it to both sides, we say go for it!

  • I've only been playing basketball for a year and already got 15 points in a junior high game mostly from these tips

  • @cubsrock121 AWESOME!! So glad that our tips were so useful for you! Now keep getting better and let us know how your season is going!

  • ur hat looks like my hs logo junipero serra hs

  • @31nyc it's actually from one of our local high schools. Soquel High ;-)

  • @31nyc Well, that's ironic but not that unusual!

  • Your video about making the team and tryouts WORKED! I made the team!!!

  • @mzmobeen13 SO AWESOME!!! We are so happy for you!! Keep us updated with your season!

  • I am on a mobile device

  • @Abhishek23000 haha! Touche ;-)

  • I like the Jab Step to Pop Combo! Mid range J to the face!

  • @TomAce82 Yeah, buddy!

  • Hey so try outs for the school team is thus week and I lately I've been loosing the ball when I'm bringing it up the court so what are some tips for controlling the ball

  • @wildtown1 Go to our video "Dribbling 101" for some tips on how to take care of the ball.

  • Pop is my favourite because it works so well for me :)

  • @SilexVerum Sweet!!! This is a great move to create the space for your shot.

  • i have a question im right handed but shoot with my left is that weird

  • @BasicNIKE14 Not at all! Just different from the norm. My son Conner is right handed and dribbles best with his left and plays the guitar with his left hand.

  • TOO BAD ITS SNOWING OUTSIDE I cant practice ;(

  • @PowerRang3r Spend some time on "Mental Practice." See our video "Win with your MIND!! for ideas on how to do mental visualization. This is a great Snowy day way to practice your game.

  • playslist says its private :(

  • @MrD32ify yikes!! Thanks for the heads up! I think we fixed it now ;-)

  • a great video indeed.

just want to say that if the ball handler can dribble with both hands. the jab foot can be either left or right, making the offense more unpredictable

  • @vodanh23456 thank you!!

If you're comfortable using the jab going both ways, that's great!

  • Last weeks video !!! Pfffft that was 2 months ago what's going on team

  • @wildtown1 we upgraded our editing software and it took us a while to figure it out. Then YouTube made a bunch of changes, so we waited it out a little. No worries, we have some cool videos coming up later this week ;-)

  • very good video

  • @BazhoFromTheHood thanks for always supporting!!

  • @ShotScience i'll always support you, because you are trying to learn people to play baskeball without knowing them and doing this videos because of love and not for money, btw when is next video coming out

  • @BazhoFromTheHood thanks again!! Next video is this next week ;-)

  • haha i love the comon its just over here

  • @CommunistChocolate you better have clicked it!!
