great clip. I used to live in island bay and used to watch ferries heading out like that round the heads. serious shortage of sick bags on that ferry.
Our great grandad [born 1875] was a boatbuilder in Ullapool-they must have made boats strong in those days, and they were wooden vessels..evidently the seas around Northern scotland get pretty fierce-I would hate to be in a ferry as rough as this..wailing kids, ill people [me included]-would be sheer hell:-(
Just showed this to my partner...We came home on this companies opposition today. My partner wanted to sail with the above company but I have heard they have a disgusting safety record. He is glad he listened to me after watching this video.
My dad was a Captain"s Tiger on the interisland ferries I had lots of sea crossings on this exact cook straight & I have been on a trip rougher than that & it was sheer horror!!!!! I still do not know why they still sail knowing how bad the weather might be arghhhhhh
You are correct. It is the same Suilven that used to sail between Stornoway & Ullapool when it was in service with Calmac. I remember it well, the sailings across The Minch which could get just as bad. I was in the RAF posted up at Stornoway & there was an in house joke when we had had supply runs come over from RAF Kinloss as to whether the driver would get back to the mainland as Calmac would stop sailings if the weather got too bad. You couldnt forget sailing on her unlike Isle of Lewis today
I was on the "Fairstar" in 1964 going through the Bay of Biscay in similar conditions - and I was even out on deck (hanging on tight I might add) - it was great. I was the only one game enough to venture out. There was a cargo ship just behind us having the water go over the front of the ship almost to the middle of it. Quite fascinating to see actually.

How can a ferry company dictate the weather? You want to see a disgusting safety record, have a look at Wikipedia's article on the Interislander ("the opposition) ferry "Aratere"... now that's truly scary.
Haha What a wuss. that thing can handle the weather. i worked with this company for 4 years. they are a fully kiwi owned and operated company. funny how some people hav 4got the past with trans-rail and all ther strikes. SSL (strait shipping Ltd) comes along and makes the passenger fares at competitive and constant sailings for you chumps. Cooks strait is one fukn mean strech of sea in a Southerly. check out my vid of us taking out the becon in wellys.Shee'l be right, well built 30 year old ship

Of course everyone says they have sailed in rougher conditions, but how many can back that up?
Try the' Minch' or the 'Pentland firth' in Scotland;makes the Cook strait look like a mirror.
