I can't help to laugh after I saw they carry the beer in every sense. We like to drink beer in Qingdao, but not in Big M. Pretty funny idea. I should give a try for my photograph.
Qingdao is my hometown. Im now in Australia. Your videos bring me many many memories in Qingdao. Thanks for sharing your fabulous and memorable videos.
It is a very peaceful and safe place for vacation , better 1000 times than US and other hot places due to crimes a lot there. Hotels are also fabulous. :) From world war 1-2, I even do not know it already a hot place for men to fight for. :) The Germans are amazing, why build a Roman catholic church? Also why so far to want go live there?
Just curious- why are you in a church with a cap on your head? Regardless of whether you are religious or not, gentlemen remove their hats when they enter a church. Just as you would remove your shoes when entering a mosque and cover your head when entering a Jewish temple. Just a thought.
Otherwise, interesting video about Qingdao! I hope to go there when I visit Beijing.
I wasn't sure what the protocol was, but no one seemed to care. In Canadian and American churches no one cares about hats, in Polish and Russian it is a massive faux pas. Every place has different rules...
In the end I thought the hat couldn't offend god all that much given all the other stuff that's going on in the universe.
the Pope should give special visas to visit the Vatican for those die-hard Chinese Catholics in north-eastern China (underground, if you know what I mean), There are so many of them, and a lot of them are very poor.
Are you a religious chinese?I am chinese Christian. Religions are free here. The pressure isn't from goverment, but my family and friends. They can't understand why i am religious.
why are they giving you beer???!!!! when I went to Qingdao, they didnt give me any beer. they are stingy, and probably because I am chinese, and they thought I was local.
7 months in advance might be waaaaay too early and they simply dont have an ability to book that far in advance. Book a few weeks/days in advance. Also, I think when you show up in person they will have something for you, and if not, in China regular hotels are just as good value. The best chain of hotels are the Post Hotels, run by China Post for one reason or another. With a bit of haggling you will get a double room for 100-140 which is a steal. There is one in every city.
That's true, i thought the hostel was all booked off..like some super high-end restaurant.
The reason im looking for a hostel is because I'm intending to stay for a month..and simply dont have the money to stay at a hotel where it's 500RMB a day or something.
Thanks for the advice. You seem to be very knowledgable with the city..I was born there and don't know half the stuff regarding the history.
I cant remember the name of that hostel, but it was Hostelling Internaitonal affiliated, so you can find it through those guys OR through the Lonely Planet. This one was very good value, I think we paid 50 yuan each for the double room with bathroom and heating/ac and TV. Very clean and cozy.
Well, I cant tell you, because I don't drink alcohol. Meanwhile, Derek can't tell you on the account of being continuously drunk and unable to remember...
Well to answer your question seriously. Qingdao is like most other German pilsners, being crisp and refreshing. It derives most of its cachet from being an old brewery, and (in Canada) available only at the government owned liquor stores. You can find it under its Wade-Giles moniker Tsingtao.
This video posted in 2007, and now its 2011. QIngdao changed. You guys need come again. And welcome to Qingdao.

Hey bro, how far in advance did you book your hostel? I'm trying to book online 7months in advance and it says it's unavaliable.
Will it be another story once I arrive at the place? I hope they will show some hospitality with their rooms if I ask in person. Thanks!

100-140 RMB, and you can easily get the price down for longer stay. The hostel I think was 40-50 for a dorm.

Yo, where was your hostel?
I'm planning to visit this summer, and I need to find hostels for my friend. How much did it cost? Was the conditions alright?
I would appreciate some insight!
