When the M78 Twin drive in theater opened, both sides of the massive glassed in snack bar were used. They shut down the Blue Screen side after just a couple of years. It was used for spare parts to keep the Red screen running. We used to run the soundtrack of one of the screens in the snackbar, onmn thje patio and restrooms. We wouldn't run an R Rated soundtrack unless all features were Rated R. After they tore down scrfeen #3, that happened a couple of times.
To gas man 396: Thanx for the nice comment. I too haves several "tickets" from the M78, I figured that me saving them was better than them being buried in a land fill. I shot this footage and my friend posted it. aBANDONED DRIVE IN THEATERS ARE FUN TO VISIT, BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE "aLBION".
That was so cool to see---I went in there after it was closed and all trashed out. Everything was damaged. The office had a huge pile of tickets in it,i took a roll of them and some marqee letters and a PG-13 sign that is still hanging in my barn. Its all gone now as they finally tore it all down. I went in the indoor theater next door too.
my parents dressed us in our pj's and brought us-then I came with my friends-spent my 16th birthday here-then every sat. night with my husband to be-then with my son until we moved away-loved this footage more than you know!! Thanks for the trip!
I've never seen an all glass snack bar like that before. The M78 must've really been something in its heyday. To drive in nut 61: Thanx for all the additional info! To think that there were other sites just like this is awsome! You shouldn't be so hard on the borgs...er...people who don't comment. My brother has had a really cool posting up for a year and no one has commented. Be happy with what you get, o.k.? I enjoyed your snack bar tour. Did you eat the foot long?
This beautiful drive-in was recently demolished with nothing remaining even though the property doesn't have any potential buyers yet. Oh well. National Amusements wouldn't allow anyone to use this property for a drive-in in the future again anyway. Welcome to America...the land of opportunity...not!
This looked like such a great place to be! It' a shame it's not around anymore. It looks very similar to the Kenwood drive-in of Louisville, KY except much bigger. The Kenwood is also owned by National Amusements, and still open amazingly enough. If I'm ever in Michigan I'll have to swing by the Miracle Twin!
