Love to watch both run... different styles of running and I have always loved the come from behind winners, but both of these fillies have accomplished a lot and beat the boys! To me.. Secretariat will always be the King, and for some reason Zen reminds me of him. He was a big ham too! Loved the people and getting his picture taken.

Zenyatta: 17 starts. 17 wins. eleven Grade 1's, four Grade 2's. Rachel is 17-12-4-0. She has five Grade 1 win's, and three Grade 2 wins. Zenyatta has raced an alarmingly bigger amount of Grade 1 winners. Yet people always talk about how great the horses that Rachel has beaten are. Zenyatta is always criticized for the races she run's. Yet all she does is win. Both have won on dirt and synthetics. But Zenyatta is a two-time world champion, and IMO, will always be the better of the two.

Pennsylvania racing authorities have ousted the top-earning owner in the sport from one of their tracks amid a series of horse breakdowns and a boycott by jockeys worried about safety.

Owner Michael Gill, who won 370 races last year and earned US$6.7 million, and his lead trainer were ejected from Penn National Race Course after most of the competing jockeys refused to ride against his mounts.

That is why the Classic is such an important race. Sea the Stars can be claimed European champion. Rachel Alexandra can be claimed East Coast champion. To be world champion you have to run against the best in the Classic.  If you don't you can only argue what might have been. Zenyatta is what is......the best who met the greatest challenge at the end of the year.

Apparently because of the fear of "best in the world except for Zenyatta." If there is an invitation only race such as the the Breeder's Cup Classic where horses are invited based on their accomplishments you have to be there. It is the ultimate match race. There can be no claim to best in the world if you don't show up and win. Your only excuse can be that you didn't want to face the best on the same terms at the classic distance. Your only boast can be "maybe, if I'd had the courage."

True in part, but remember that the Classic isn't the only "ultimate race". The Arc is the greatest race in Europe, so Sea the Stars didn't really have to come to the BC Classic to boast the title.

That said, it was completely stupid that Sea the Stars didn't come, when he was not only invited to the Classic but encouraged to come, and his superrich owner decided instead to retire him to stud.

Agreed on the "ultimate race" part. The BC is a world championship for thoroughbred racing, but its not the only in the world. Especially since its difficult to compare races on dirt and turf. For dirt horses the Classic is probably the biggest race to win (excluding the Dubai World Cup of course), but for turf runners I bet the Arc is a much more wanted trophy than the BC. If you ask me, is there really a way to determine the BEST horse in the world based on these facts? No!

I love both horses. Both are very powerful and talented fillies. I myself am more of a Zenyatta fan. But I can't deny that Rachel is a great horse as well! I feel Zenyatta should get horse of the year while Rachel gets the 3-year old filly of the year. Rachel is younger and has more time to go for horse of the year if she continues doing as well as she is now. Zenyatta is older and it would be amazing for her to win horse of the year before she eventually retires.
