  • Best bit about this scene ? It actually did happen just as seen here, and I thought it was a bit of film makers artistic license.

  • "we've hit an ammunition dump, bloody ammo dump, shit. " yeah.

  • i would call that a stroke of luck hitting that ammo dump

  • You'd better hit that slit first time

    That's what she said!!

  • What? It's in Swedish?

  • @Capt777harris no, in english

  • @Ladadounis Thanks, the first couple of lines sounded garbled on my speakers.

  • Im sure i've seen the film once where the subtitle says something like 'The courage of desperation'

  • @pob3000tb "dem Mut der Verzweiflung", the courage of desperation, I suppose its just diluted to fools courage.

  • Ack-Packs look soooo badass.

  • You bloody missed it.

Well you knocked my arm you clumsy bastard.

hahah , that cracks me up everytime.

  • i am currently reading It never snows in september by robert kershaw which tells the battle from the german side and apart from the words spoken this incident happend pretty much as in the film. The flamethower team hit amunition stored behind the machine gun bunker in a shed.

  • The horn that he blows is bad ass shit! Love it.

  • based on a true story?

  • I want to know what accent that is I know one of them is welsh but what about the other

  • "uh...heh...i think I'm just gona leave now...."

  • OMG!! now i know the reference in the simpsons in that ep where homer gets obese and his trying to go to a movie, and the guys like: hey fatty, here's a movie, a fridge too far!

  • My fav scene! 5 stars!

  • That was the biggest fluke I have ever seen, but it was funny when after all the ammo went off they peeked their heads up then slowly ducked back down.

  • Is the soldier on the right Alan Armstrong?Better known for his role in New Tricks, also appeared as Inspector Bucket in Bleak House amongst other TV and film credits.

  • I checked his name at IMDB, and I think you're right. He was also in Braveheart, apparently.

  • yeah he is scotish in real life and his son played allen a dale in robin hood

  • @HenryvKeiper Not to mention Krull........

  • @HenryvKeiper

Yes he was, he was one of the Scottish nobles who betrayed Willy Wallice an pissed of during battle.

  • @ShahOfBlahII Yeah it is Just had a look on IMDB. Best lines in the film in my opinion are "Oh now were in trouble you bloody mist it." "well you knocked my arm you clumsy bastard. Now we'll never get out of hear." (explosions) "we've hit an amunition dump. Bloody amo dump." "shit" It is funny you have to admit. Its the acsents That make it even better.

  • @ShahOfBlahII "yes tiz"

  • @ShahOfBlahII yep your right !

  • come on ya fuckers! show some bulldog spirit, get stuck in. come ahead!!! yaaarggghh!!!

  • pyro hhmmmhhn

  • Hail to the brave men!

  • the fox has been sighted ... and what a fox!

this film is the bog's dollocks!

  • "well you knocked my arm you clumsy bastard!" hahahaha

  • They are both killed later in the film :(

  • hahaha love this movie

  • Calling in the hounds, love it!

  • LOL?? i watched that movie at least a dozen times, but i cannot remember this scene!?

  • Does the scene have any truth to it, or simply artistic license ?

  • Just been reading 'Arnhem' by Major General Roy Urquhart, who mentions an attack on a Pills box on the bridge by sappers with a flame thrower at night. Apparently, one really did distract the other at the critical moment causing them to him some wooden sheds which were ammo dumps ! And here was me thinking Mr Attenborough probably just made this up for a bit of fun....

  • Cornelius Ryan also quotes Col Frost on this exact event in the book (pg 274). I'll have to check out "Arnhem".

  • I wonder what they kept in that ammo dump to make such an explosion? Surely not only Mg ammunition.

  • It's a movie mate :P

  • Mortars, grenades, demolition grade stuff , equivalent to comp b...you name it....made a hell of an explosion!

  • bittrich had it all under control, a very able german officer!!

  • Yes, he seems to have been an OK guy as well, making a real effort to protect hospitals, withdrawing from Vienna instead of fighting until it was in ashes, and generally pissing off Himmler.

  • thats right, he was even consulted by attenborough for this film!!

  • Now that I didn't know. It's good to hear, especially about an SS officer.

  • weve hit an ammnition dumb bloody ammo dumb SHIT HAHAHA lol

  • 6th Airlanding all the way!!!

  • You knocked my arm you clumsy bastard! lol

  • HA HA... Great line!

  • I love this scene. He directs his men with calls from his fox hunting horn! Soldiers love an eccentric commander... All U.S. paratroops know about 2 Para- They live on as Gods of War...

  • Who is the German officer supposed to be?

  • Bittrich.

  • Thanks!

  • 1:20 "Now!, You bloody mist it!" BOOM xD

  • No Frost used that horn to reassemble his troops when they landed back in England and he used it in Arnhem for the same purpose I dont know whether he did blow it after they took out the pillbox, But it makes good entertainment though.

  • 1:45 - 1:55 is just priceless.

  • Can you imagine Steve Urkel in this scene?

    "Did I do that...?"

  • lol

  • Hahaha go brits love it when the german ss officer says the line of the title

  • We hit a ammo dump a bloody ammution dump

s*** LOL amazing scene one of the best of the movie

  • why is Frost blowing a bugle?

  • Cause he felt like it.

  • Best. Response. Ever.

  • That's a bugal signal for his men to return.

  • the brummie gets killed later on,i dont know about the welsh geezer though.

  • Whoa, huge slam on the Welsh out of no where.

    JK :P

  • what do you mean?i havent said anything bad about the welshman.they are good fighters, never forget how heroically they fought against the zulus at rorkes drift.

  • I know. Hence the "JK"

  • so what does the p stand for? and dont say prick, lol.

  • The ":P" is a popular smilie which resembles a face with its tongue sticking out, implying a joke.

  • oh right,it must be an american thing,jk.

  • Ironically most of the soldiers defending Rorke's Drift were Brummies, not Welshmen.

  • At least they knocked out the pillbox as well which was the whole objective. Mission accomplished.

  • Well done that man. That was one hell of a miss.

  • those are the exact words my girlfriend said to me the other day

  • Which ones?

    "Fool's courage"

    or...

"You knocked my arm, you clumsy bastard. Now we'll never get out of here!"

  • you know thats the only reply i've ever got that actually made me laugh out loud, jolly good show homeboy

  • cool ! you got all best battles scene's!!!

  • nice ! you put all battles of the movie on the site

  • Well most of them, any way ;)
