  • What an amazing cover!!!!!

  • Excellent choice of cover. Well done.

  • Utter Trash...........Numan OWNS this track ! ! You wanna live in a world of Violence an hatred to Mankind ! ! No street corners an no place to hide ! ! ! thats why...........The alarm rings for days.....coz the so called Police 'force' ain't ! ! ! ! Plastic skin don't save anyone ! ! !

  • Brilliant cover!

  • Palmer was a admirer of Gary Numan and a friend of his. RIP Robert Palmer.

  • Christ that's great. Listen to the hi hat, how the whole thing moves. I agree Numan's current crowd, inc the unseamly Fenton, are really not great musicians in the classic sense. May know how to run a few "plug-ins" on a Mac but really playing music, sorry, it's beyond them. Come on Gary, let the moths out of yer wallet and hire some real PLAYERS.

  • Love this one....... RIP Palmer....

  • cool i didnt know he was into numan , cool he does a great job !

  • bloody good this

  • ROBERT PALMER...WAS THE COOLEST..PERIOD...THE WEEKEND..HE DIED..OUT OF NO WHERE...I PUT ON..HIS...MUSIC.ON...AT WORK...WE NORMALLY WOULD LISTEN...TO A HARD ROCK STATION OUT OF SAN JOSE..AS SOON AS I PUT THE C.D. ON EVERY ONE STARTED HEAD-BANGING...AND SMILING.....LATER THAT...EVENING..WE WERE UPSET...AND VERY SAD TO DISCOVER...HE HAD GONE TO HEAVEN...!!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ROBERT PALMER/...YOU MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE..!!!!

  • RIP

  • Palmer died way too young.....

  • RP started doing this cover right after it came out. Numan heard of it and rang up RP and they became friends. Numan went down to the Bahamas when RP was recording his LP Clues in 1980 and they recorded a version of "I dream of wires" which came out soon after Telekon. They also co-wrote and Palmer recorded a couple of other songs, "Found You Now"", and Style Kills", you can find them here on the youtubes if you look...

  • Yeah I like this!

  • Which year was this?

  • A good cover. It is a shame that Gary has lost his way a bit, the tour of the old shows were not nearly as ambient as when they first came out. A really good cover here for Mr Palmer R I P.

  • what a gem! gary and robert were my absolute dream team of pop-music!

  • What a pleasure it is to find a new (to me) Robert song! Thanks so much for posting this.

One thing I've never found - any Robert Christmas music. Anybody know, did he ever record any?

  • @GaryNumanAlbums to be fair only up to pleasure principle could you really class as tubeway army

  • @fuckamericanidiot

I disagree, you're right on a level, but I'd also add Living Ornaments 79 into that.

  • wow, this is actually really good, and he doesn't try to imitate numan, he just sings normally and he has a great voice. i'm impressed

  • Didn't even sound like Robert 'til the second verse. Interesting. Now if I could only find his live cover of Motorhead's "Eat The Rich". It was like a jet engine firing at you.

  • Didn't even know he'd covered this track, therefore it's a lovely surprise finding it here: THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT!

As you say, music should be about bringing us all a little closer...

  • would have been a whole lot better if he left out the organ sound.

  • GNA - thank you for posting this!! what a rare treat to hear Palmer covers... Gary does a much better job of it, but it's really cool to hear this!!! thank you!!!

  • sweet thanks

  • Great cover by Robert and as told before also great job from the band. r.i.p. robert, we miss you!

  • Pretty good cover!

  • damn he really did a good job on this one.

  • "Country fair band" that's laughable.

This is a great cover and tribute to Numan. Overall, it sounds alot better than what his band today does the song like that. Ade Fenton is as useless as a highschool dropout.

  • You can say that again

Fenton has put Numan in the hole. Well he was already at a low point, but Jagged is much much worse than what Machine+Soul was.

  • @MegaSleepWalkerDeth

The skills involved in making a song today are much more advanced so to say he's useless is a bit unfair. I think its like everything else... take movies for instance there are hundreds of well made storylines with good acting back in the day but these days its all about fx car chases and explosions. The story gets drowned out. Wouldnt dream of taking anything away from the producers and technicians involved though.

  • Classic, shows the difference between ordinary and greatness. Robert palmer, what a star.

  • Only the real will be remembered

RIP to a musical masterminding genius

  • Palmer was great, RIP to the man.

Shame Numan's band could'nt do this song worth a damn when I seen him in November.

  • I would'nt even waste my money on him now

I was lucky to see Numan in 1988, back when he was great.

  • @NewDreams4Old He had a cold and lost his voice. I saw him too it was still pretty cool even though he didn't sing about 4 of his songs.

  • Palmer was a genius, I really miss his pressence on this earth.

  • Classic, Palmer was the man

  • Wow this is rare, and I didn't know this even existed. Great find

  • Palmer was a mastermind, before Al Jourgensen and Trent Reznor.

  • Thank you very much for posting this. And thanks for your remarks that "music should bring people together". I think Robert Palmer felt the same way.

  • @aplantage ...i love ANY KIND OF PEOPLE...he was great, and i miss him SO MUCH!

  • This is brilliant. Very good cover, possibly the best cover of a Numan song yet

  • Palmer and Numan were friends, and I think the "Cover" of I Dream Wires was actually a remix Palmer did, remember reading that from some place.

  • Robert Palmer was a mastermind who shall ever be forgotten.

  • I dont go on record sales. Otherwise I bye abba music. PS I actually dont mined Iron Maiden. Just through it in. Lol

  • lol

  • Robert Palmer was the fucking man when it came to synth. Honestly, i think this is better than Numan's version. Get mad, and cry and try to kill me Numan fans, but I don't give a shit. This is the fucking bomb!

  • OK to make shit clear to you idiots

If it was'nt for Gary Numan, you would'nt have bands like NIN, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, or Aphex Twin. He was the mastermind of what created electronica

If it was'nt for Iron Maiden, you would'nt have bands like Mercyful Fate, Metallica, or Megadeth. Maiden revolutionized the use of dual melodies on the guitar, and proved with 2 guitar players anything was possible.

Don't ever compare Maiden and Numan..

  • The difference between Numan and all those acts you mention is they carried on perfecting their craft, the passion never died, look at DM still selling out arena tours and producing some decent music which shows progression. Numan hasn't kept up with technology, he hasn't perfected his craft he is bone idle, listen to the jagged album - awful song writing and production. Nothing lasts forever but that doesn't mean to say it has to turn to shit..

  • He's wrong man. Depeche Mode is still one of the top selling 80's bands, so is Tears for Fears. Berlin, and Numan may have burned out along the road (Don't know about New Order) but that don't mean they all did.

Numan has'nt had a good album since Metal Rhythm, the only thing that sells anymore is the older albums. Depeche Mode still manages to sell millions without reissuing older albums after older albums

  • I think Numan got alot of ideas from Palmer, so they pretty much borrowed from one another.

  • Robert Palmer was a mastermind behind a synthesizer, much like Numan, back in his glory days.

  • Palmer and Numan were friends, and they probally worked together. I really don't know the whole story except the fact that they admired one anoter. Great men, powerful fists in the 80's.

  • Top man. Shame. R.I.P.

  • I love it!

  • Awesome cover, he nailed it perfectly.

  • RIP Palmer!

  • Great cover of a great song.

  • Thanks for pulling this up, it seems to be missing from most Clues and Riptide tour recordings on different torrents even though it is listed. :)

  • Awesome cover indeed.

  • Shame he died, made a nice cover here.

  • Old school stuff, awesome stuff indeed. i'd love for someone to remix this with the Numan version.

  • Amazing cover, loved it loads!!!!! Plain and simple!

  • Fantastic cover!! Pity Numans band can't replicat anything this sort of sound!! bunch of amateur fucktards!! hee hee! I love being positive!

  • I agree with everyone here, but you I espically agree with :)

  • @GaryNumanAlbums You agree with him calling Numan an amateur fucktard? Not sure why you bother uploading all of his albums then.

  • Don't know about that man. Numan's band playing this pretty well back in 79, 80, 81, and it was played awesomely back when I saw him on the Exhibition tour. Howver, i don't have no clue how it sounds live today.

  • You got that right. He screwed up Observer, Asylum, Cars and god knows what else on that last night he played.Find the bootleg video of it, fucking horible.

  • @WastedYears1998 I'm talking about Numans current band. The band of 79-80 were awesome.

  • That is why we need to get Robert Palmer out from the grave to do the songs himself! They'd sound so much better lol

  • @LordArsehat

I'd love to smash your bracket in

  • @LordArsehat ; Gary,Cedric,Billy and Paul would have made my day ;-)

  • @LordArsehat naaaa its an old sixties rocker voice, Not the fantastic sinthetic-android type voice of Numan.

  • @LordArsehat

The Numan version rules. It's Palmer's band who are unable to re-create the Tubeway Army sound.

  • Never heard this one before.

  • great cover, i love robert palmer!

  • Robert Palmer is awesome.
