My uncle used to play his guitar and sing this with my aunties at parties when he had a few beers in him. We all loved it. Great memories and we all miss him.
It's a song we Sailors heard often in Japan in the early 1950s. I was a 19 year old Sailor on an American Warship then and the ship came into port every month or so for liberty (Mostly Yokosuka). If you didn't get around to seeing that special jo-san you "fell in love with the month before", and happen to hit the bar she was working then she was going to be singing that song in your face. My money is on the song being of Japanese B-Girl origin -- Those were the GOOD OLD DAYS
My grandma has been asking me about the lyrics to this song for months and I'm so glad I found this awesome video of you singing it live! She will be so excited. Would you be able to let me know who wrote the song?
He once rewrote one of my sketches so I did it in a show, (Ealing Live) my version first half his version second half. It went down pretty well as a bit of light teasing of dads in general, but then he came on at the end to do a song as a sort of finale. He is the only person ever, and there were some greats in that show, who ever got a standing ovation. Annoying! (During the show I asked him if he was enjoying it - he said "Its a lot of waiting around.")
