  • W00t, I have that exact curling iron. Unfortunately that would never hold in my hair T_T

  • I have a 20's party I'm going to--and was fretting over my hair. Yes, I never would have found this unless you said "Finger Waves" so describe it how you want--it's exactly what I needed!

    Thanks!

  • Thanks! I'm sure you looked fabulous!

  • omg! this is sooo smart!

  • Aw Cool! I'm going to try that! ^_^ Thanx for the vid!

  • If you look at the link in the info section you'll see that this was intended as a tutorial video for a hair community I'm in. I know that this technique is marcelling, but the term finger waving is more well known.

  • short video...

  • what size curling iron did you use? my hair is about chest length.. what size iron should i use to create the most proportional look?

  • Since your hair is longer I'd go with an iron that's either the same size as mine (1 inch) or a size bigger. That way things still look proportional :)

  • This is an example of marcelle waving (with an iron), not finger waving, which uses only fingers and a comb. In the 1920-30's it was also called Water waving(H2o and a heavy type of gel. However, after drying under net, the waves were combed out from the bottom up, into soft, amazing finished looks that held solid! Not many do it like this cuz it's so hard. Combed out pin curls with also form into a "finger wave shape" using same waving motions only on dry hair, but have a lot more volume.

  • Thanks for pointing that out, I was already aware as I stated in a comment before. I used to term 'finger waves' in the title though for clarity purposes because I think that term is more well known than marceling :)

  • Yea Sewwtie those are called waves not not finger wave...finger waves are falt on ur head ...and they actually to make curler that make those waves

  • Those aren't really "finger waves" because you have to use your fingers to make them. Not a curling iron. Yes, it's easier and all, but that's now how it's done.

  • Back in the day they were done by pin curling, then marceling. Not quite with fingers ;)

Finger waves is the name of the style. Try Googling it.

  • before pin curling they were done with a fingers and a comb

  • WOW thanks!! i've been wondering how I can do this look.. i'm bad with bobby pins, but very good with the curling iron :)

  • This is like a marcel wave.

  • you can also use a 3barrel curling iron too..

  • yeah, but those turn into more 1980's type waves. this way they are flatter and you can sculpt them better :D
