to locker10a: this is just the usual pathetic excuse--if FAs are just for health and safety (in the 0.00001%) that things go wrong then install vending machines at the back of the plane. however, if as a professional airlline, you want them to also provide service then it becomes part of their job. that has to be executed with professionalism and courtesy. providing discourteous service in the name of "safety" is just a bad work ethic.
Your are there neither to save their a**es nor to kiss it. You are there to perform professional, courteous, civil service, in the knowledge that people have paid to be with your company as opposed to your competition in a metal tube, and assist in an emergency. This attitude that FAs are there for "safety" alone is what is killing the industry.
@asubrahm well according to the FAA and NTSB Flight Attendants are a legal requirment onboard! Airlines just use them to perform the extra job of handing out a bottle of water and a cookie here and there ! So really they are Health and safety supervisors that are also kind enough to treat their guests to a drink and snack!
Cool vid......I hired by Piedmont, became US Air, and then US Airways.....just to make it through training was a big deal! They used to weigh us every week! If you were 1 pound over come graduation, you were out!
Haha what are you talking about?? All you need is a HS Diploma and preferably customer service experience. I have checked and this is true for many airlines such as Southwest,Delta,American,United Virgin America,Spirit Air, Allegiant Air, Northwest Airlines,Continental and many more. A College degree can help but is NOT necessary!!
When is JetBlue coming to Atlantic City N.J. (ACY)? It diverts there all the time. ACY has great runways/ILS/an FBO that has nothing to do all day and only Spirit Airlines for competition (they can't hold a candle to JetBlue). There's a brand new 6 story parking garage that no one uses AND a $92million terminal being built! Taxiways are being enlarged and new terminals being built, a brand new parking garage.....And no one to use all this!!!!! There's also AirBus maintenance for the RONs.

Uh, I have only a H.S diploma and have flown for five airlines. Airlines are a whole lot more interested in WHO you ARE vs. WHAT you KNOW.
