  • What Roosevelt should've done was not cut Supreme Court pensions, which is what he did as part of an effort to shrink the deficit with the Economic Act of 1933. Two of the four moronic anti-New Deal judges, Willis Van Devanter and George Sutherland, were eligable for retirement and would've done so if this had not happened. If I were President in 1937, I would've also lured the older federal judges into retirement by passing an act which would've doubled their pensions for a limited time.

HE EVEN BACKED THE BAD LATIN AMERICAN DICTATORS RAFAEL TRUJILLO, WHO RULED THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, AND ANASTASIO SOMOZA, WHO RULED NICARAGUA, BECAUSE THEY WERE STRONGLY ANTI-COMMUNIST. THIS COURT-PACKING PLAN HAD SOME MERIT TO IT, BUT I WOULD'VE NEVER PUSHED IT. ROOSEVELT WANTED TO BALANCE THE BUDGET AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO LURE THESE JUDGES INTO RETIREMENT WITH PENSION INCREASES, WHICH I WOULD'VE DONE
