  • I prefere cars from the mid 80's to early 2000 due to their ease of modification and for their simple computer controls.

    Iv'e got a 95 Camaro that's receiving a dana 44, c4 corvette IRS swap. Its got tubular k-members and tubular lower a-arms and top control arms. The AC has been removed and a 3.5l blueprinted turbocharged v6 (assembled but not yet installed due to a few bits missing) is being installed all in the effort to remove gross and un-sprung weight. It also has a TKO600 tranny.

    This merc has 200hp more than the Ford, which now will show how well the Ford can cope and the Ford doesn't cope well at all. In other vids there was a Porsche with 750hp raced against the Ford GT1000 and the porsche kept up with that Ford Amazingly with such a huge HP- disadvantage.

    I'm telling you, Europe make such fast cars even without all the mods like Forced Induction American cars need.

    Ultimately, I prefer GM because of their dominating engines more so than their cars. The GM LS v8's are definitely the premium small blocks of the century, beating any SB offerings from Ford, Chrysler or imports alike. Light weight, compact (well for a v8), durable, dependable, affordable with ample aftermarket support and unrivaled power potential.

  • @originaldriver The ZR1 is not a dominating Super car because it doesn't even have the characteristics of a super car in the first place. It's a Sports car. If if you do want to look at numbers how about you drive the car around a track first and see how much you like it then.Ask any Automotive Journalist and they will tell you there is much better cars to drive than a ZR1.

    BTW Ferrari won the international engine with their V8 which evidently proves Ferrari make cars 100x better than Chevy.

  • @namybot A "Ferrari" V8 may as well be a unicorn or some other mythical beast because neither of us will ever own one. However, I can (and do) own an LS V8 and can modify it to have as much or more power than anything else its size.

    And as for your crazy thoughts about what a "supercar" is supposed to be; consider this, how many other cars in the ZR1 price range come close to competing with it? Call it whatever you want, its numbers that count, my friend.

  • @originaldriver Crazy or not it's true, the ZR1 is a Sportscar and for the money a Nissan GTR is cheaper and faster. Yes, the GTR is a Sportscar too, so it's a perfect comparison.

    The only true Supercar America has is the Ford GT and to be honest I think it truly does fit in with Europa Exotica.

    So why buy a ZR1? Because it's a wanabe supercar. So why buy a GTR? Because it's the fastest and cheapest car in it's class.

The newest 2012 ZR1(with little more than a tire upgrade) placed a record of 7:19 at the ring, utterly crushing the fastest times of the newly placed record of the 2011 GTR, DESPITE Nissan's power, suspension and traction control upgrades.

    The Ford GT barley cut a laughable time of 7:40 while being pushed. The ZR1 dominates both cars you stated as examples, so a supercar is supposed to slower???

    Performance doesn't determine a Supercar, It's the character of the car. A ZR1 is a Sportscar because it's built on budget, built for speed and built to compete with other brands of cars. Supercars are built without a budget and without a audience in mind performance is a bi-product its all about the drive.

    Ford GT is Americas first real supercar, some would argue its the Saleen S7 but that your nations problem not mine.

  • @namybot Meh...I never really cared for such titles (supercar, sports car, whatever). As far as I'm concerned, the performance of a sports car (exotic or otherwise) is the only determining factor.

    The ZR1 Vette, regardless of any formal classification, has proven itself to stop better, accelerate harder and manage its chassis/ suspension as well as any other high-dollar exotic "super car" in a similar price-range.

    If performance doesn't determine status, then Ill gladly ignore status.

  • @originaldriver Nissan GTR is way cheaper than a ZR1 and is faster for the average Joe to drive. Lets face it, we are not all professional racing drivers and that is what a ZR1 needs to get the most from it. I'm a Ferrari fan, so I'm a huge fan of super cars. I never care about Sportscar because they are cheap and cold hearted cars.

    For me the car is about emotion, it has to be romantic and heart-warming. Performance is only half a car.

  • @namybot Cold hearted and cheap???? Carbon fiber brakes, computer controlled magnetic suspension, aluminum/ magnesium chassis, carbon composite fiber body and a hand-build, dry-sump, purpose built, performance 635hp engine is "cheap and cold hearted"?

    Last I checked, Ferrari was buying GM's "magnetic ride control" in exchange for CF brake technology for use in their vehicles. That's probably because "romantic and heart warming" wasn't cutting it in ALMS where the GT1 C6R's were stomping them.

ALMS is American of course Americans cars are going to win!!!! Because all the endurance races in Europe and Asia Ferrari, Porsche and Audi are winning.

    Look what happens when Ferrari play, they make FFX and 599XX.

    Ferrari racing ability far out does any American brand and most Europeans.

    Im not saying that GM makes better cars, not by a long shot, but I AM saying that they have every capability, the engineering prowess, and all the resources needed to make a car as good as any Mediterranean exotic

  • @originaldriver That's funny to say it is Porsche that have won the most races over the board. (look it up) they didn't conquer the world through war but Germany got there own back with Motorsport. Audi are kicking ass at the moment, winning Le Mans 10x in the past 11yrs is very respectable.

    I don't care about the engines they make I'm talking about the cars and GM cars are not even close to European standards.

    Ferrari and Porsche are the two top dogs, you got the live with that.

  • @namybot Porche and Ferarri produce their premium cars in limited production. These cars are made to move for big money. They have to hold up to some decadent standards, otherwise they couldn't fetch the exorbitant sums of money demanded for these cars.

    However, The truth remains that most European (Audi, Porche, Fiat) entry/ sub luxury cars have no more/ no less general defects than their equally classed American made competition. Globalization has long since leveled the playing field (Sorry)

  • @namybot The point that I was making is that GM is capable of making a class conquering supercar (sports car, fast car or whatever other title you desire to use). The ZR1 can, and does, outperform many other similar cars from high-end car makers and is faster than any other production car within its price range. Is it so hard for you to acknowledge that?

    A name is only a name, Ferrari or otherwise. If Hyundai can make a 305 hp N/A v6 sports coupe that runs 13's, then anything is possible

    The ZR1 is as fast as "SOME" European cars. Because of the Nurburgring people think that cars are faster than everything below it. Look at TopGear power lap and you'll find different cars suit different tracks. the ZR1 is well suited to the ring because it's not tight, MP4-12C is suited to tight tracks its why it was developed at Dunsfold.

    What I'm saying is. Don't be presumptuous.

  • @namybot Im not a Lawyer, so I'm not going to analyze any your convoluted translations. That is beside the point, and frankly has become a tangent on an otherwise intelligent conversation.

    European manufacturers are great, but I prefer GM simply for their powertrains. (non heart-warming or otherwise) The industry has embraced the LS v8 since its 98" release, and since then have found their way under the bonnets of professional race cars, drift cars and super-cars alike.

    That's why I prefer GM.

Lets say that I was given a choice between those fore-mentioned cars and an Ultima GTR, a F5 GTM, or a Mantide Bortone, then I would probably take either of those 3 instead because they use GM LS engines that I can modify at whim.

    Automotive Journalists around the world will tell you, Ferrari V12 is one of, if not "the" greatest feeling the world. The power and the way it feels is a very special and emotional event. I do like V8 and would go for an GM LS but for me my heart sinks when a V12 is involved with any car. IT MAKES ME HAPPY.

    Lamborghini NA V10 kicks like bastard too. :)

    Lord forbid I ever have a mechanical issue with one. I couldn't even begin to fathom what a nightmare trying to understand the engine management system. Even simply maintenance items like oil and air filters are expensive and hard to acquire.

    A 427 LS7 with 190 degree headers and ITB's would sound like "heaven" and be lighter than either of the motors you just described with just as much power.

    Have you heard of the 62' 330 Colombo V12. It's the Le Mans engine that Ferrari engineered and that is the most biblical sounding engine ever on WOT, you should seriously check out both the 57' 250TR of the 62' 250GTO both cars feature this LM winning engine.

    Take a look at the Factory Five website and check out the GTM 500 builder car. Also check out the Ultima GTR (which btw your not obligated to use LS engines in if you dont want to). These are some cool cars, that if built right, are capable of some astonishing numbers and genuine race performance.

  • @originaldriver yeah I have herd of the Ultima GTR but it's not really a car I can live with or anybody for that matter. Still an astonishing car.

    I'm have a soft spot for the older cars, I still adore any car but I particularly like cars from the age of no health and safety, the cars were much more pure and real.

    I have recently noticed a remake of the Jaguar E-Type, It's called the Jaguar Eagle. Jeremy Clarkson drove one and said it was one of of the best cars he has ever driven

  • @namybot ferrari V12? lol ferrari only has like 2 cars that have a v12 the enzo and that special editon 599 thats modded for the track. much like thr Fxx. from what i belive. and some of there F1 cars.

    other then that, all there v12's died with the older generation ferrari's. most ferraris will use a V8.

    and, as they do sound good, i'd probably say that sound of a realy small race build V8 sounds the best to me. that or a monster 8L V10 like in a viper, unreal sound :P

    Ferrari sill make and use V12 engines. They have V12 in many other models but if you look at more contemporary models you'll notice, Enzo, 599GTB, 599GTO and the SA Aperta are powered by a godly 6L V12. Not just 2, like you insultingly state

    Ferrari would use V12 all the time but for Ferrari Racing they need homologated V8s so thats practically why you'll see V8s in production Ferrari.

    hes my friends father, he's been a mechanic for ferrari for a longgggg time here in ontario. and i've even had this similar conversation with him... even he said thoes v12 and flat 12s were nightmares, near impossible to work with, and when you can they take forever. for that reason is why the dealership is one of the few that will actualy service the enzo. stricly because of the engine.

    Ferrari won Le Mans several times with a V12, so they can't be as bad as you say.

  • @namybot i never said they were bad, there nice engines, just a poor design for a ferrari. thats why they use V8s. see as you already probably know, a ferrari needs to be both lightweight, and a balanced car. in order to fit a Hug V12 in a car such as a 458 or F430... they would need to extend the chasis, the drive train would have to be moved, and to compensate for the added weight.

    and yeah :P that dealership is one of the few dealerships that are even allowed to service the V12's hahaha

    Only thing is, a Enzo wouldn't be the same without a V12. The reason they put a V12 in the Enzo is because it is a tribute car and the V12 in the engine that Enzo Ferrari loved. Sometimes people forget Super cars aren't always about the speed( Enzo has no problem with speed) but more the being and meaning of the car. I would take a perfect car over a fast car, would you?

    but in all respect... for my summer thrill ride, i dont care for luxury, superb handling or a "perfect" car. thats more of somthing id apreciate as a daily driver.

    whitch is why i drive 2 mustangs. 1 is a 2007 V6 with a few basic mods, the other is a 2007 GT-350 street monster with everything in it, from suspention, to breaks, engine, exhaust, body and paint.

I will never argue with people that love cars, what I will argue is when they claim other cars are shit just because it's not to their liking. A typical problem I get is people saying Ferrari are crap because they cost a lot and that is because unlike most companies they don't have highly expensive Formula 1 cars to research and make.

  • @trbossdoggy You found the specs from the current Mustang, not this one. This body style only came with 300hp from a 4.6L. Look up the 2005-2009 Mustang GT. The 2010 came with 315hp. The 2011-2012 came with 412hp. The new 2013 comes with 420hp.

    The only Mustang from the 2005-2009 era that came with over 400hp was a Roush Mustang Stage 3, which came with 415hp. There was also the Roush Mustang 427R with 435hp.

  • @trbossdoggy By the way, the Roush Mustangs weren't stock. They were aftermarket tuned Mustangs. Stock refers to a car that comes straight from the factory with OEM parts.
