We are using specialized tree climbing gear, using a technique called single rope. It is a variation on big wall techniques using a variety of ascenders and descenders. The ropes are essentially static lines, the "harness" is called a saddle and is designed to be sat in comfortably. Same rules apply in a tree as they do on rock, you are always tied in to at least one point of attachment because gravity will win.
Good call, yes Poison Ivy, video wad shot in Michigan's Upper Peninsula climbing the State Champion Eastern White Pine.

Wondering what sort of gear you use to climb a tree? "real" aid climbing gear or you just doing it old school like a kid would do it?
This looks like fun but would be scared to ruin my climbing gear from tree pitch... or does that not happen?

That is just too high up to camp overnight. There would have to be oodles of grizzlies on the ground to even consider doing that...lol
Nice vid nonetheless.
