Great song, well done. Joe South and Elvis versions also good, but if you like the Blues, check out Otis Clay's version. In addition, the pic in the video of the people running down the road with a little naked girl in the center IS from the Viet Nam war, they are running from napalm which kills trees and other foliage and causes terrible skin burns. From a grandfatherly vet, Vietnam Class of 1968.
@DerStandard08 You totally missed the point. Listen to the lyrics than you will understand the images. It does not matter what kind of suffering or from which era, it i still just painful infliction of suffering.
@DerStandard08 - you missed the point totally. Listen to the words and no matter what period the pictures, The pain and misery is the same, no matter what era, what century , which country, which inhumanity
@DerStandard08 - in addition the pictures are not from Vietnam. one is from 1945 after the USA dropped an atom bomb in Hiroshima. The walking Soldier is In Iraq. There are no pictures from Vietnam
heard a few words of the lyrics on npr, googled the lyrics and found out this song was done in 1970 by joe south, redone by elvis, and now is totally modernized. way cool. great song, great lyrics.
This is an *excellent* video. I thought it was incredibly powerful.
I have constructive feedback. Four suggestions (I put them in order of appearance here): change the spelling of "sew" to "sow" in "reap what you sow," In yet to And yet, Its to It's, and ghetto's to ghettoes.
Had no idea it was an Elvis song originally, I feel embarassed.. I try to keep up to date on things like that, but you learn something new every day! :)
I LIKE THIS! Its is indeed a little different, but I believe if Elvis had heard this version, he'd've liked it too. Wish Lisa Marie would cut a version of it. If she has, hadn't heard it. Anyway, great vidio!! Thumbs up
Oh my lord-this is BEAUTIFUL!!! I've heard Joe South/Elvis Presley's version-BUT this ONE has much more MEANING & SOUL!!! And the montage really goes with the song-THANKS for posting!
A great cover of another Joe South gem... Joe wrote so many great songs for others & himself... "Games People Play" "Rose Garden" "Don't it Make You Want to Go Home" "Hush" "Down in the Boondocks" "Clock Up On The Wall" "These are Not My People" - he also played guitar on Aretha Franklin's "Chain of fools"- Simon & Garfunkle's "Sound of Silence" and Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde"... Joe is an amazing talent - His birthday is Feb 28th - drop him a note! joesouth(dot)com

yes, it was made famous by Elvis, but I beleivethere where early version of this too.
Coldcut have changed the words slightly, which I prefer but that is jsut my opinion.

@Foxeytears: it's a song written by joe south, but the two versions were released both in 1970, almost coincidentally.

@Pauloange It's a great Joe South song! He wrote it and the hit with it. Elvis did a great cover. So did Coldcut.
