a pussy? man, i bet i can drive a stick shift better than you, i have a manual VW santana '96 which i drive every day and i will NEVER sell this car, but i am JUST telling my opinion... FOR ME: automatic is better... if you prefer manual, go ahead, i don't care :P
I got my 06 Jetta a couple months ago. Aside from mine being cursed with the heavy shift from 1st to 2nd. The car does it's talking on the road, not with it's specs. VW.....Great for the price of good indeed!
Damn I love the way that 2.5 L inline 5-cylinder motor sounds too. I just bought a base 2007 VW Jetta and I love it to death. It's definitely fast and the 5-speed manual feels great. If you're interested I just posted a video of me doing a burnout in it. You can find it on my channel.
the 2.5 is half the lambo' s engine exacly.i thought it supposed to cut off on 130 but i did like 136 on mine then had to back off for slow going ricers lol
@ainamelas Well, friend... i'm talking about comfort...
When i buy a car... I want comfort, and I want it to take me where i want to go, i'm tired of driving with full traffic, step on the clutch, change gear... i don't intend to race but i would prefer DSG, because it's faster, etc...
@belgvr i have the same car but mine's got 170 hp and it's manual , and i've listened to automatic jettas and they just don't sound like mine and neither like the car on the video. But well if u want comfort get a chauffeur, i think automatics r just for lazy ppl and grls who don't have control in their feet
@ainamelas i can normally drive a manual because i have total control in my feet... i have a vw santana here in brazil, btw 95% of the cars here are manual...
BUT MY preference is auto... i don't want to argue with people here, i was just saying my opinion about autos... and i hope it ends here... it's just a matter of preference... i can't discuss your preference neither you can discuss mine...
i5 engines are more expensive to make, of course. They're a little tricky to balance correctly, I think it's something about second order vibrations. As such, they show up more in "luxury" compact cars, the Jetta being somewhat of an exception at something like 18k base.
it IS a de-tuned V10 or at least half of one. Its basically a Lamborghini Gallardo V10n engine cut in half. It was designed by the same engineer who did the Gallardo.
@germankid93 and it is an amazing piece of engine! I'm not that sure of the new model's sound. This sounds so brilliant and epic. It makes you feel special, even though you don't pay much for it.
If it is, I have your exact same car. But mine has a slight sound coming from the motor, it's like a "tic tic tic tic"... And everyone tells me its normal, but I just can't get around the idea, cause it sounds awful, And I can see that your's defenitely doees'nt have it...
Yes, this is a Jetta I-5 2.5L. I haven't heard any ticking from the motor. This is the old 150 hp revision, though. Kinda pissed off that I missed out on the 07 increase to 170. :/
It's a straight-up manual. Wouldn't have it any other way. Much less power loss through the transmission, for one. Better control and more fun as well.
i have the 07 wolf, it sounds awesome... it just doesnt have a great amount of power, but i can squeal the tires when i shift to 2nd gear in tiptronic so ITS ALL GOOD!
amazing car though, the suspension is definitely the outstanding feature on it
They actually set the redline for this particular engine very low. It can handle about another 600 RPM past the redline without any danger, and I didn't even hit it in this video.
For those Who didn't know about VW In Europe not having 5 Cylinder Enige is a LIE. My dad have Audi 1991 Audi 90 it is a Inline 5 Cylider Engine Best ever Made all Original with 550.756 km on it still running no problems Whatsoever and Dont frget it is the same family VW, Audi. Now VW have 5 Cylider Engines in Europe they brought Platform from Audi 90 Engine 5 Cyl...Becasue they are so Much realiable and Dont Forget Derived from Labourgini.
I have the 2.5L 2006 Jetta, love everything about the car. The 150bhp with the 6 speed Tip Trans is more the enought for me but I don't race it at all but I did take all the goodies, leather, moonroof, wing...etc... Changing the air intake and the exaust should add 20hp, no?
I have to have a clutch, though. Gives a better feel of the engine and transmission, and, manuals are normally more efficient, putting more horsepower to the wheels. But I digress a little. It definitely should improve the horsepower, the stock air intake on the Jetta is pretty convulted, coming up from somewhere under the engine, through the air filter behind the engine, out on the driver's side, towards the front, then left into the manifold, which goes back towards the driver again. Twisted.
This year's model (2008), with the 2.5 liter I5, puts out 170hp and 177ft-lbs of torque. This is comparable to the 172hp, 173ft-lbs VR6 in the MkIII Jetta, and to the 177hp VR6 in the MkIV. It can put up the numbers, but I believe that it's a shift towards trying to produce more fuel efficient cars. Unfortunately, I have an older model, with 150hp and 170ft-lbs torque.
This model of Jetta has different names in different areas. It's Jetta here in the states, you can find out more on Wikipedia. This is the American market 2006 Jetta. No, over here in Europe no VW cars have a straight-5, in fact i do not know of any car in Europe that uses a straight-5. 150bhp for a 2.5 litre engine is weak though.
Europe has a different set of engines, that is true. Guatemala does not. And I agree, 150 seems conservative of them. Which is why I suppose the new ones have a 20hp increase. It is a new engine design for VW. They may have detuned it for reliability.
Yes we did just for a while but only for 4 years; the car wasn't popular as its fuel economy was worse than the 156bhp 2.0 engine but it produced less power so they just killed the production.
That's completely possible. Audi is owned by VW, and it's entirely possible that this engine resembles half of the S8 V10, being a five cylinder engine, which itself was (loosely) based off of a V10 Lambo engine (another property of VW.)
Correct... the block of this engine is the same as the lambo gallardo like if it has been cut in the middle... Altough I must say thats it's not the best engine when it comes to allie strenght and economy. The 2.0 TFSI would be more apropriated, on the other hand, it's sound sucks (seems to be diesel) compared with the 2.5.
Anyone know what the whirring whining noise is? I find it to be very noticable when I take the engine past 2k. When its not pulling hard, it makes the car sound like its running on electric motors.
Does a Jetta handle the same as the new Rabbit? Auto journalists rave about the new Rabbit and the way it drives, but I have not heard the same comments about the Jetta.
It's essentially the same car, I believe. I know that the chassis is the same under the bodywork. The Jetta may even handle better, as it'll have a slightly lower center of gravity.
