  • I really like the way the song builds- Ferry's emotive voice (that some find irritating) I find enchanting and I think gives the song authenticity- this song harkens back to the romantic films of the 40's and 50's and with the rising chorus and playful bass line at the end I see the credits rolling as Bogart walks away into a foggy night (- words by Eric Maschwitz and music by Jack Strachey: from Wikipedia)

  • Pretty weak, although not quite an embarrassment. Ferry's vocal affectations and mannerisms aren't endearing, and his voice is generally weak. The band is clearly just a bunch of guys pulled together for the occasion; the drummer in particular is sloppy and clumsy. Overall it's a nice bit of pop music, but what it really shows is that if you're a star, you can get away with just about anything.

  • I think Mr. Ferry does a disgusting job with this song. The jerky delivery, replete with hand clapping, totally distorts the feeling of this wonderfully romantic song.

The claim that he is one of England's best singers is an insult to the many fine singers on your island.

  • No-one writes lyrics as beautiful and evocative as these anymore. The fashion for them has passed and they sound pretty innocent nowadays. But i love them. And i'm a ragga/dancehall/jungle fan.
