In real life you'd circle over the end of the runway until you get low enough to set up for final. Then you would want to be about 500' on 1/2 mile final if not then 500' over the end of the runway. You can always forward slip to bleed off excessive altitude.
Some things for viewers to learn about Realistic engine failure practices. If above 3 thousand feet you will always try to stop the prop. I know some models in fs wont do it realistically and some never stop but its part of the practice. Second. you don't want a perfect approach. You always want to come HIGH no flaps until you have guaranteed the runway and you want to SLIP in the whole descent. this allows for steeper descent at lower speeds. then. BRAKE AS HARD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.
Similar to Air Force landing procedures during fires, alarms, and emergencies at Luke AFB. However, this training is difficult for pilots who have to land jets.
i didnt prctise this with a 747-40 but once for some reason a engine faliure, engine fire and a oil leak all happend 10 minutes in flight to manchester from heathrow. I had enough altitude and speed to get to manchester cause that was my closest airport and did a emergency landing andd then the gears did not react when i put them down, after 7 attempts on putting the gear down it worked and then, i learned that there wasnt a maydey in the ATC window for some reason.
@pjm5678 those indicate your height upon approach, if you're too high the all turn white, if you're too low they turn red.. you're at the right altitude if two of them are white and two of them are red.
He is a professional simulator programmer. He gets lots of money from Youtube to improve his videos, so i find it preatty obvious that he have got a joystick. He probaly does have more than one.
Maintain Vy until round out, every deviation from Vy means steeper approach angle!
Retract Flaps only if you need to, and delay this action to the point where you are sure, that addition drag will not affect the landing. Feather the prop if you have time, to reduce the drag and increase the gliding distance. Better be at a higher altitude and use flaps as a drag device, instead of coming low and hitting the ground before the runway.

Procedure in case of engine failure in a Cessna 150/152 :
1) Speed 65KTS (best glide)
2) Location (choose the terrain you want to land), squawk 7700
3) Fuel selector on, mixture rich, throttle open 1 Inche, carburator heater on, master switches both on, ignition start if the propeller has stopped running.
4) If the enigne doesn't start again: fuel selector, mixture, throttle, alternator switch and carburator heater off. battery switch on.
@badgerfrommars just flight addons have other "people in the cockpit" for added realisim you can go to justflight com to find out more about the c152 he is flying
That worked out for you this time, but here is what we do in real life to ensure we make the field every time. Immediately after an engine failure we pitch the plane for its best glide speed. The Cessna 152 Vg is roughly 60 kts. WE then locate and turn the plane toward a field. Upon reaching the field we choose a key position abeam the touch down point and circle. This ensures as we come out of the last turn we will be set up on base for a short final. As we are doing this we attempt to restart.
@lallenw Agreed. I'd also like to add that your touchdown point should be at least 1/3 of the way in on the runway, usually around the middle in order to protect your speed (as well as have a margin for error) and not get dangerously slow as demonstrated in this approach.
No. But, they do offer up a lot of experience about how the instruments work. Go to your flight school nearest you and get something called an intro flight. The instructor takes you up and lets you have the controls and see what its like to really fly. I did that and it is so much better!
In real life, you would never handle this situation in that fashion. The first rule of thumb always is ESTABLISH BEST GLIDE SPEED. This ensures best glide distance. Also, you did S-turns to bleed of altitude, your goal being to set up for a normal approach. In this circumstance, you had a very long runway, and plenty of altitude, what you should have done was estab best glide, and fly the approach much higher than usual, guaranteeing a landing even if the winds were to change last minute.
i do the same thing i the LIMITED OPTION misson. i perferred male intl airport but i lose to much altitude. on the final i still 0,5 miles from the rumway my altitude is 500 FT. i do the same thing and i landed at the beach... with 10 degree nose up pitch and 120 knot of air speed... lucky me
Just an fyi, it is much easier to "slip" the plane into the runway...bleed off airspeed and altitude to approach speed...than before ground effect...put full flaps in. Try it.
ok.... i am going to try not to spazz. use ur common sense. does it look like it is acceleration??? is there any fightrer jets or something like that??? fsx deluxe edition is way more detailed than that. so wut do u think it is??
u just answered ur own question u dipshit. its fsx!!!!! what the question is: what computer is this? or what graphics card is this? u DIPSHIT, ASSWIPE.
yeah best glide is 60. A good idea is to aim for the centre of the runway (half way up the runway) so you have half the runway length to play with. (not cutting it TOO close for comfort) also (didn't see what selections) you can bleed off the speed using the stages of flap. =)
The best thing to do in an engine out sittuation and your high is to slip and go for mid feild. That way you are sure you are going to make the runway
i just went to the town yesturday and suddenly i see a cessna 172 gliding over me and the propeller was not spinning so it obv had an engine failure, think it made it to the airport though
Pulling back on the yoke to stretch the glide at a low altitude and airspeed is seldom a good idea. Many pilots have found themselves in stalls and even spins low to the ground from doing this. Remember, if you're going to crash, it's better to have a controlled one than an uncontrolled one. Next time consider the 360 method for your forced landing. Overall you did a good job pattering the demo.
First things first, as soon as your engine dies establish Glide Speed.... Glide speed of a C-152 is 60knots (Aviate, Navigate, Communicate). In a C-152 you can loose more or less a thousand feet if you make a 360 degree turn while maintaining 60 knots all the way.
By looking the approach is really obvious that he didn't reach the runway, thas why he change from the cockpit view to the external view. Totally different approaches. Dude I got you.
lol....then you land in the hudson.....well....how do u get a guy in the airplane...is it another game...i play flight sim deluxe.....cool landing.....
this is false information. In an event of an engine failure you immediately fly towards the airfield. Don't do S turns that far away from the airfield.
maybe he was just too far above the airport and going down directly would be too fast for landing; and in real life that short runway might've not withstood the speed
on power off approaches never go too far away from the airfild and not over water !!! try to ge the altitude down overhead of the airfiled and never loose the visual contact to the departure end of the runway.
when you lose an engine and you're over the water you've got no choice you're losing the engine over the water and if you're far away from any airport AND over water than ya you would be screwed
yeah that's right. but at the beinning of this vid you can see that e is closer to the airfield as when he is over the water, that is what my opinion is.
Surely better to come in MUCH higher than you did and then simply side-slip off any excess on short finals. Better too high than too low. You have no resource left if you undershoot. You can side-slip if you're overshooting.
emergency airport??? where did you get your information from? this is an airport within itself its on the french side of the island of st. martin princess juliana (TNCM) is on the dutch side
Instead of sharp turns to bleed speed / altitude why didnt you get closer to the tarmac and then on a high final do a "slip".a.k.a a high drag manuver where you bank left or right and stomp opposite rudder and allows you when done right to continue on a straight path. You could have sliped down to a altitude of ~50 ft. Leveled off and had a nice smooth touch down. Used alot in gliders. I find that a much safer route than barely making it with all that water around. Hope you got your swim trunks
really nice app... and yup keeping the nose down and trying not to go on steep turn angles is the rule for free glide abnormal operation.. cheers.. ciao
i think i would have had less flaps and try to make smoother turns before getting allign with the runway. why are u so interested in doing emergencey landings? ok i can understand its important to know what to do when ur in a emergency, but what about flying?
This is the first failure video I have done in a while. A new video everyday, sometimes more than one a day... Checkout the glider video from yesterday or the airshow extra 300 from a few days ago.
Some suggestions. If possible the prop should be feathered to reduce drag, unless attempting a restart. Also on a 172 Flaps will still be operable, so keep that in mind. Lastly if you can incorporate some forward slips.
This was a 152 and flaps were still operable and used on approach. Forward slips were considered but I went with this approach instead because I want to highlight forward slips in a future video.
In the real world we would reference an engine failure checklist that includes several steps. You may be able to re-start the engine if you have enough altitude and time for trouble-shooting. Otherwise, if you don't have much time or altitude, then you're securing the airplane for an emergency landing, again referring to a checklist.
lol this is on the same island as princess juliana because i always practice going back and forth beetween the 2 airports for small plane landing practice
one thing you can do is don't extend any flaps untill you know for sure that you will make the runway because you will get the best glide with a clean aircraft.
Cool Video!!!

Nice Video!.

Otherwise, if you don't have much time or altitude, then you're securing the airplane for an emergency landing, again referring to a checklist.

one thing you can do is don't extend any flaps untill you know for sure that you will make the runway because you will get the best glide with a clean aircraft.
