I have a 16 and a 12 gauge. One time I took the 12 gauge out for hunting, and in my pocket I had both 16 and 12 gauge ammunition...But I saw it in time, so no accident happened.
This is really a rather good video. It seems like the kind of thing that's terribly obvious once someone tells you, but would be so easy to overlook during a busy day.
Iv'e never done this, but i know a guy who tried to fire a 7.62x54r cartrige, out of a .410 derringer, it fit into the chamber with a little push, and he said, " If it fits, it shoots''. the pistol's action sepparated from the barrel, cracked it, and the barrels were sepparated from the center block. he lost his thumb, and middle and index finger. like larry said, DONT MIX UP AMMUNITION! be safe.
Why does 20 gauge ammo even exist? I guess if you teaching midgets how to shoot trap. Everyone I know has been handling 12 gauges since they were 12 years old.
I saw this happen once. Everyone was fine and luckily the barrel only bulged but it turned the guys shoulder completely purple. looked like a very painful bruise. As a kid I learned about this in hunter safety our instructor was missing most of his hand. He had his accident in a duck blind. Never let guys with a 20ga in the duck blind. When thinks get going fast its to easy to accidently grab a 20 ga shell.
If you are dumb enough to not notice that you put a 20gauge shell in a 12gauge gun and it slid down the barrel, then you deserve everything that is comming to you.
he forgot to say the main tip, when you drop a cartridge into the chamber, and it falls deep into the barrel, dont just chuck another cartridge ontop and try to act like it never happened. duuuuhh
Heard about some kids who did this with a single-shot. Dropped a 20 gauge in, got a click, decided to just drop a 12 gauge in and fire anyway without bothering to check what the problem was or even see if a shell got ejected. Did they think it evaporated or something?
@zanuha because it is important!!! or for people that have for the first time a shotgun, or for santa to bring the right ammo with the shotgun,or for a woman self-defenceing her kitchen not to blow up the wrong thing at the wrong time!

The emphasis on responsibility of the user/owner can not be stressed enought and this gentleman does just that.
My first gun was a 20 bore when I was 12 years old.I never thought anyone would load a 20 into a 12 and not tell someone.
I guess a quick peek up the barrel if possible would negate this and I'll remember to do so more diligently from now.
Thanks!
