I was born and raised in Montreal , i've been a habs fan all my life....In 1981 , i was 4 years old and my dad bought me my first habs jersey , which by the way , 30 years later is still hanging in my closet , and guess which number i wanted , number 19....
I'm a Leafs Fan since 1972...yes, the laffs!...lol!! But always followed the Habs! Especially in the 70's. What an awesome team they had! Robinson, Lafleur, Shutt, Richard, Lapointe to name a few..of course Dryden!! the new year's classic vs Red Army....the memories will always last for me!! Simply the Best Hockey Franchise to play the game!
I think,in all due respect to those great teams of the 50's,that the greatest team in hockey history was the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens,-they were, for all intents and purposes, unbeatable.
Agreed but Al Scrathan mentioned Serge Savard as the one who lead / gelled the big three together. Regardless, Savard, the Big Bird and Lapointe were simply awesome defencemen. To this day, I still have great memories of them and the rest of great, unbeatable Habs teams of the mid to late 1970s. The best team ever assembled. Sorry Oilers fans!
woulda sucked to be one of his other grandsons/daughters eh? Kinda like Dave Thomas' favourite niece Wendy. All kidding aside, I gotta give props to one Mr. Robinson for all his achievements and wish him the best. On another note, I imagine after him and Roy the Habs must be running out of numbers for others to choose from....small price for a dynasty I suppose.
I was there at the bell center when they retired robinson's number . it was amazing to witness it in person . too bad the habs lost to the senators that night lol.
My favourite player of all time. A lethal mix of toughness, grit, skill, size and leadership. He could do it all, fight, shoot, move the puck up the ice, pass, and bodycheck with the best of them. He was feared whenever he stepped onto the ice. He was one of the most respected players of his era. As if that wasn't enough, he was, by all accounts, a hell of a nice guy. Congratulations to the Big Bird for this well-deserved honour.
How sweet is that? Robinson with his grandson is one of the great images from a Canadiens retirement ceremony ever. If I were a sap, I'd be crying at that sight. But I'm not so it just fills me with Hab pride. Yes, I will try and make my own children suffer alongside me, lol.
I'll always remember him checking Dornhofer so hard he broke the boards in the finals. to me that decided that series.

Plus 730! NHL all time record. The Habs sure need a guy like him now.
