Yeah i downloaded a different hornet the FSX Blue angels hornet off of their website, it is much better the hud is great and thr flight dynamics are amazing like the sound. You should check it out
When i Land my FA18 on carriers, the aircraft violently banks right on trappin a wire and falls ino the sea, i dont know why but because of that i do carier ops in a T45C :(
@SuperIjoker Hi, it's not your fault - the default Hornet is not very stable when landing on the carrier. Google "Simviation FSX F/A-18 Combat Version" and download that plane - I optimized it for carrier landings, and it also has a nice air-to-air gun mode.
@greentea1494 Hi, you must have Acceleration Pack or Gold Edition (which includes the Acceleration and is more cost-effective). The Acceleration has carrier operations and the F/A-18 Hornet. This is a nice sunrise over San Diego and one of the first carrier landings I recorded and put on youtube :)
@degigi2003 Wow I should have kept the Ultimate Edition when I got it for Christmas. Damn. Lol and this is a perfect picture of what I want to be doing in a few years! Great video!
That's not true - especially in the 3/4 mile you have to say for example "Hornet, ball, fuel state" which means you can see the meatball and can do a visual approach. They also say - "The ball never lies" :) Of course at low visibility and at night, you should use the ILS to make the initial approach, but you still have to use the meatball in the groove.
There are two different systems - one is ICLS (Instrument Carrier Landing System), which is the same as ILS, and the other is ACL (Automatic Carrier Landing). The aircraft can receive steering commands from the ACL equipment on the carrier that may be coupled to the flight control computer for automatic approaches. The ACL uses a tadpole symbol on the HUD for steering cue. The ICLS uses the ILS needles. I don't think either system must be engaged unless necessary.
@degigi2003 I was going to respond initally but there was too many details to convey so I just left it out.
However now that you bring it up. The ICLS is the OLD ILS system while the ACLS is the new ILS system in place. There are many Landing modes and approaches and different rules for breaking the BCS pattern, entering the 180 and etc. But on the final downwind leg, when you are at 800 feet AGL and you do the final checklist- the NATOPS manual requires you to turn on the ILS if available!
@pm2424 I don't have the final checklist, but the NATOPS says in the section about Carrier Landing Pattern - "Select ILS if desired and available." Also there is a short Descent/Penetration check which lists "ILS - ON/CHANNEL SET (if required)". So I am not really sure that it is always required. I designed a carrier ILS system for the Flight Simulator and it is ON by default, so I guess I may have done what you said :) You can see it in my night landing video ;)
@PilotGery1: More important than speed is your angle of attack (AOA). For every gross weight of the aircraft, there is a speed that will give you the optimum approach angle of attack, which for the Hornet is 8.1 degrees. So you see me keep the same speed but I am really trying to keep an optimum AOA...
Try locking your fps to 25-30, reduce autogen to zero, scenery complexity to half, uncheck light bloom and lens flare, reduce cloud density and drawing distance, set all traffic to zero (leave some boat traffic to see the carrier). I leave anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering checked. Basically eliminate the things you need least and max out the things you need most :)

@cozzipilot Hi, this is Flight Simulator X: Acceleration, you have to purchase it.
degigi2003 1 year ago
hey what an awesome model! Where did you get this Airplane Model. And how do you get to use this carrier?
Nice Vid. :)

This is the F/A-18 Hornet that comes with the Acceleration Pack for Flight Simulator X. The carrier is the freeware USS Nimitz by Javier Fernandez.

@degigi2003 oh ok. Thanks :)

Carrier landings are always done with ILS on unless its not working !
