"(John Harlan introduces all four celebrities' names) All in the game that's just over their heads! (singing: "All-Star Blitz!") (scatting) ("All-Star Blitz!") (scatting) And here's the Master of the Blitz Board, Peter Marshall!"
Our ABC affiliate (WQAD) in the Quad Cities, IA/IL did not air most of ABC Daytime in the AM, in favor of crap talk shows and a lousy newscast. Added to the list, we never saw "Loving", "Trivia Trap", the first year of "The View", and most of "Ryan's Hope".
This is a great spin-off of "The Hollywood Squares", created by the same production team. Our ABC channel in Philadelphia did not air any of the episodes because of the local news, but thank god the USA network aired the show on September 1985. The show should come to GSN and possibly a ressurection for GSN.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the last show? Would anyone remember who was on that last show? I heard that the Blitz Bonanza was not won on that last show.
The theme was composed and sung by Alan Thicke, who also wrote the original 1975 theme for Wheel of Fortune, the 1974 "Joker's Jive" theme for The Joker's Wild, and for The Wizard of Odds (he also sung it), which was Alex Trebek's 1973 US game show debut.
My (then) ABC affiliate WOWK aired this show at 11am the whole time it was on the air (including its time slot swap to the standard 11:30 airing a day behind). WOWK aired Ryan's Hope at 11:30 and pre-empted Family Feud and Angie reruns.
Too bad KTRK in Houston never had this show due to Donahue. But I did get to see it in reruns on Classic USA Network (the game show station before GSN).
The whole thing was tongue in cheek. Peter Marshall hosted, the contestant/host setup was the same, and Peter even opened the show by saying "Hello stars!"
Interestingly enough, the two men that produced the show were Peter Marshall, the host of both shows, and Merrill Heatter. That name doesn't ring a bell? IT SHOULD! He and former business partner Bob Quigley produced Hollywood Squares!! In other words, this isn't a ripoff; it's more like a clone!
To add to the interesting trivia, this wasn't the only time Merrill tried to emulate the success of the Squares. Believe it or not, he tried the same thing with an NBC show called Battlestars in 1981. Didn't last long... much like this show!
Even if it was, you had the Hollywood Squares master hosting it. I'd give it a pass just for that reason alone. Decent game show with big money involved. Thanks for posting!

I have the finale myself, and there were two blitz bonanzas played on that episode. One was lost, another was won.

Nope, my sources tell me the theme was written by Score Productions.

Do you know if Thicke was still singing the theme? Check the Wikipedia article on him with the list of themes he composed.
tvtimetravel 3 years ago
Apparently, you're right. Thicke did compose this theme.
