@thewolffebros In a few more years, some of their music will be considered classic rock and most likely get airplay on some perennial radio stations. Case in point: Green Day.
@handyandy75 its supposed to be about sydney and her life. The lyrics are talking about her. she's alone and has had a tiring life etc etc.....its sooo nice! ('',)
I first heard Shine on the radio when I was nine years old and I fell in love with the song. Now I'm twenty five and these guys are my favourite group of all time. They can do no wrong, in my opinion.
Love this band and LOVE this song. I've seen them live a bunch of times and wish they were on tour again. This song reminds me of my mom and her passing from cancer... asking god for forgiveness before she went to met him in person. It does make me tear up every time I hear it but it also reminds me of one of the great women I've ever known. Thank you Collective Soul for a great tune and I love & miss you mom!
my favorite CS song ever(this version). just a great riff.lyric everything.the video is poor but alot of CS videos are. the version on the greatest hits is slower& more of ballad. this version off of scream 2 sdtrk is better but not as well recorded. the singing is the same but the sound is more muddled here. still my favorite song by CS

@msueddy1175 I totally agree. The song is supposed to be about a conversation that the singer had with his mom about his alcoholic grandfather. I have no idea what that has to do with some chick being tormented by a serial killer. Great song, but I don't get why it was chosen for the Scream 2 soundtrack.
There won't be horror movies as good as the Wes Craven/Kevin Williamson era again. Most of the horrors that have come out over the past few years have been remakes (and bad ones at that). They don't know how to make good horrors anymore!!
You couldn't have been more right, my friend. Horror films today are a disgrace. Nothing but blood, repetitive profanity, Unnecessary sex and drinking and partying. Its pathetic. The Wes Craven era were the best times in horror. Now horror is DEAD!!! 100% DEAD!!!
The 90s at it's best. I was only like 7 or 8 when this song came out, but I loved it. I've never been into the same music as my age group. All of my friends were like "Oh my god, Britney Spears!" and I was like "Have you heard that Collective Soul song?" Good times.
@Xyberfaust, I assume you are pretty young since you don't remember when Clinton was in Serbia doing the "air war" campaign that slaughtered many people. I'm curious as to the "innocent era" before Bush. I don't think there was one.
ah year this brings back memories. scream 1 and 2 had such an impack on the teenage youngster from 1994-1997. it was the shit back then. they gave horror movies a whole new era of the teenage generations back then. though the actors was in there 30,s lol. anyw 1997 will never be forgotten. your music hits you on so many lvl. its a dreamer:)

dude nirvana was good...the only reason they were famous though was because nobody thought you would get known by playing that kind of music. They played it first therefore they were the best at the time. Collective Soul is not grunge they are alternative and a very good band that can play live just as well as they record. 90s was probably the best decade for CS. Holy CoW!!!! THe guys who upload old CS videos are really cool!!! I'm glad that there are diehard fans who still support them! =) I live the woodstock 99 videos as well! Cool!!!
Such a great song... like usual by CS... they still go strong but their best times has passed... one of the biggest fans but i didnt dig that much Youth even thought there was great songs such as Under Heaven Skies (Oblivion) and Afterwords that i listen for a week straight but then i could never return like i do with this kind of hits... but i have to agree the worst album was blender... why pt 2 is a classic non de less...
I know, me too!!!! I used to love them back in the late 90's, but then they kinda fell off my radar. I found my copy of Blender and Scream 2 Soundtrack when I was cleaning some of my old stuff and can't stop listening to them for the past few days. I really love this song--probably my favorite by CS. It fit perfectly with the movie.
An answer to the question, Why pop? It responds to the metaphysical problem of being spiritual beings in a physical world. That is what pop gives us. Eddie is in some respects our standard bearer. As he rejects escapism entertainment for a music of meaning. That is why I'm here. It's why I've always been here and always will be.
I hate this video. I know the song was wrote/used for scream. I love the song though. Awesome band. Been listening to them since '91 (I was only 5...lol.)
I got to see Collective Soul last Friday night at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. Great show! The played a few of their new tunes from their upcoming album. It sounded like it's gonna more like their earlier material than their previous album. Less pop, more rock!
The "hidden" album version of this is really good too. A bit different and I havent found it anywhere on Youtube yet, but these guys will always be a favorite....all their tunes just rock.
And I agree the video is kind of, eh, cheesy maybe.
THATS WHAT SHE SAID. im sorry i just had to do that

I never expected the video to be like THAT! And I never expected the singer to look like THAT!

I hate this video. I know the song was wrote/used for scream. I love the song though. Awesome band. Been listening to them since '91 (I was only 5...lol.)
teysasmyangel 2 years ago
They formed in '92 and didn't even release their first album 'til '93, so you you haven't been listening to them since '91.

I read that originally this song was written after a conversation Ed had with his mother
