If there was a molding around the windshield, that's about $50 itself. Now, comes the labor. Most places charge about $100/hour. Figure 3.5/hour job, $350. Of course, at 8.25% sales tax...$75....Gives you a grand total of $985...let's just call it a thousand dollars since they'll throw in a little mumbo jumbo fee.

You can still get it "free" on your insurance; but the Catch 22 is that your rates will definitely increase; plus, it counts as a strike, and after your 3rd one, they'll drop you. If you take it to a dealership (they're the only who'll do a decent job), you just as well have a cool grand ready to spend.
