@ConnorXV yes !! it's cool but THIS could never charge 1410 µF like mine ;) i work on a big upgrade of my coilgun and i charge 1880 µF at 400 V in around 30 seconds

sorry, I do respect you. That wasn't a coil it was a spool of rope. your coil is 3 or 4 times the size as mine. i used on spool of radio shack 22 awg magnet wire, to bad i didn't have more.

@AKZak08 Yep, but you know, mine is juste some short magnet wire of different diameter that i welded. i think there is only aroud 8 meters of wire. But i work on a much better coilgun project ;)

Your coilgun isn´t efficient..

My coilgun:

1x 220uF/385v =~16j

Coil: 2cm long and 1cm diameter

3sec charguing time

velocity of the proyectile : 12-15m/s

Proyectile: 11x 2.5mm

Homemeade transformer and chargue circuit.Input: 16v/3A

@Worge993 both of your coil guns are way way WAY ill-efficient. My coil gun shoots magic beans that sprouts bean stocks under Kung Fu grip conditions. Fastest bean shot came in at 3.0*10^8 m/s.

My coils are only a few mm longer than the projectil. Best results...way better than with thin long coils.

Realy: You projectile is way too heavy for only 80J...make it shorter or drill a hole right thru it.

@AnselmoFanZero there is no link between 80 J and the projectil length.. more over my coil is 30 mm long like the nail... and the nail only weigh 2 gramme !!

2mm...well I would use a bigger diameter. 4mm minimum. I would use shorter slugs...but its your project.

For my heavy Coilgun I will use 25x8mm...

use more durable materials. it wont =1410 µF because the uf doesnt go up it is this euasion 470uf x 3mf =470 M µF x the charge voltage and halved like if u have 3 200v caps it doesnt = 600v

hello. I'm nbax5 and I'm going to start a coil gun. I'm only 14 so please do not ask or answer me lots of "hard" questions.

I think i know preety much about coilguns and I could help you.

Your gun's problem is that has only 3 capacitors and 1 transformer right?

Why don't you get mere caps and transf.?

You also need to get a bigger projectile. One that makes more damage.

If you've any questions ask me. I'm also making one but i'm using like 10 cap. and 10 transformers.

i don't have any problem ! there are 3 caps but they are big ! (1410 µF in total)the charge circuit don't work like this. it's the transistor who increase the voltage. bigger projectil result in more resistance in the coil so it would be less powerful.
